Creating Big Hair Like Gwen Stefani: A Step-by-Step Guide
Hey guys, so today we're going to do a tutorial on how to get big hair like Gwen Stefani's. Gwen Stefani is a beautiful woman and she has beautiful hair, and beautiful makeup in every single video that I've done in the past. It was a little bit less beautiful, but still, um, really beautiful. In my rock chick video, I have one picture on Daily Booth with really big hair, and um, like everyone wanted to know how I did it, so today I'm showing you how I did it.
To start, we're going to apply a heat protectant thing, and I'm going to use my Cheese silk infusion. Just put that in your hair mainly in the ends, because that is where your hair is most damaged. Once you've applied that, you're going to take a big brush and then just brush your hair to get it everywhere. The heat protection thing we're using is from the hi shop, and this one's by Elevate - it's a 1/4 in curling iron. This is my new baby, um I love it.
I'm going to follow the highest point of my arch up, so the first thing we're going to do is we're going to make three big curls on our hair and then clip them back so it stays on. We're going to make one here, we're going to make one in the back, and we're going to make one here, and that already gives like a lot of like texture and curl to the hair but not too much. And then from there on, we can work even further with it.
I'm going to show you one and then the other two, I probably going to speed forward or something. You're going to take a strand of hair like that, so something like that. Um, I learned a great trick from one of my friends - she told me if you want to curl outwards, keep the clamp in front, whatever you do, keep it in front. So, first I'm going to go through the entire hair then go in a bit and go a little bit further until the entire hair is in it like most of it.
As you can see, most of it is in now. The other just wrap it around, okay? Now, you clamp it out and now you're going to pin it back so you're going to do that. We want our curls to be nice and tight, not too loosey-goosey. That's the trick to big hair.
Now, let's talk about teasing. I know some of you might be thinking, "Teasing? Isn't that bad for your hair?" And yes, it can be. But a little bit of teasing can go a long way in adding volume and texture to your hair. So, we're going to tease the back of our hair just a bit more, and then we'll use some hairspray to keep everything in place.
I'm going to grab my secret ingredient - this is Osis Plus by Schwartz. This powder is called Dust It, and what this does is make your hair really rough and textured, and adds volume like no other. I'm just going to apply that to some places you see the powder Rook it in and the hair gets so textured that you can do anything with it.
One downside to using Dust It is that it makes your hair kind greasy because it's a powder. But don't worry, there are plenty of ways to counteract this. Just use some dry shampoo or texturizing spray to absorb any excess oil and add more volume to your hair. Now, let's brush out some of those curls to make them nice and soft.
For Big Hair, we're going to tease the overall a bit more, and then flip it over - that's going to be dramatic as hell, and I love it! And finally, for the finishing touch, let's add a lot of hairspray to make it stay where it is. With this hairspray, you can like scrunch it a bit and make it even more. Look at it - put some airspace crunch big hair!
Creating Big Hair Like Gwen Stefani: Tips and Tricks
If you completely hate Big Hair, don't worry! There are plenty of tips and tricks to take away from this video that you can use to create soft curls on top or volume at the bottom. Just remember, when it comes to big hair, you want to start with a strong foundation - so make sure to use a heat protectant spray and brush your hair thoroughly before you begin.
One thing I learned from using Dust It is that it's not just about adding volume, but also texture and roughness. This powder can be used on its own or mixed with other products to create a unique look. Experimenting with different combinations of products will help you find the perfect balance for your hair type and style.
Finally, don't forget to scrunch your hair after applying hairspray - this is where the magic happens! By adding some texture and volume to your curls, you can achieve that Big Hair look without sacrificing all control.
