**The Threat to Iconic Race Tracks**
As a car enthusiast, you might feel like you're part of a community that's being legislated out of existence. Combustion engines are being phased out for EVs, there's legislation in the works around the world mandating speed limits, fines are being issued for driving old cars in big cities, and hidden cameras can issue fines for any number of infractions, no matter how large or small. All that sucks even more when really iconic tracks, places where rules like those don't apply, come under threat.
One such track is Laguna Seca, a very special place that's being threatened with closure for seemingly legal but pretty lame reasons. The bigger question is what does this mean for the future of race tracks and car culture in general? If you're a car enthusiast right now, you might feel like you're part of a community that's getting legislated out of existence.
**The Closure of Laguna Seca**
This track, where rules like those don't apply, is not the only one facing closure for similar reasons. The closure of this RAC track means there will only be one left in the state, one last time the Palm Beach County Racing Community gathered here for 53 years, the final Governor's Cup at the track. As the owners say they are closing down for good, noise ordinances have killed tracks around America.
**The Importance of Preserving Race Tracks**
While others have been bought up by commercial developers with grassroots racing being more expensive than ever before, increased land value has made selling tracks more profitable than keeping them open. When I was a kid, my favorite track, when playing Gran Turismo, was Laguna Seca, a PS1 and a vibrating dual shock controller was the closest I thought I'd ever get to this track.
All right, first time at Laguna Seca in a car - pretty incredible! Not my car, but we're in a Camaro ZL1. Very fitting in 21 years later, I'm now behind the wheel of a 650 horsepower Camaro feeling those same vibrations only this time there was steering. Some of the most iconic names in Motorsports history all have gone round and round at Laguna.
**The Legacy of Laguna Seca**
The beautiful thing about Motorsports is that you could do this too if you wanted, you could drop down 5 and a half stores in the courts crew, you can hit 150 plus miles an hour on the front straight. You can be a part of History to put your name down as someone who's driven on one of the most famous tracks in the world.
Right alongside your racing idols. I'll never be able to throw a pass at Lambo or hit a ball at Wrigley Field, and that's okay because lucky for me I get to Drive Laguna Seca, and for now Laguna's 2024 schedule appears to be unchanged. This could be a loss for the Highway 68 Coalition, and personally, I hope it isn't but just in case it isn't don't take your local tracks for granted.
Get out there and become a part of their history - you just might help our tracks live a little longer.
**The Significance of RAC Tracks**
And that's what's cool about these V8 engines; they were super overbuilt, so you get to add a bunch of boost baby. Hey do you think the turbo is the adrenaline gland of the car? Engine is the heart, oil is the blood, oil is the blood but I think engine's the tummy.
Well that makes sense because the gas is the food so wait are the drive shafts the legs or is it the axles? It's the axles. Yeah, Wheels are the feet the windshield is the eye the headlights are the eye not according to the movie Cars James cars isn't real take that back I'm willing to admit the bumper is the butt.
If you admit that the CV joint is the knee does that make the tailpipe the... hey just so you know the meaning was canceled. Amazing, butthole, the tailpipe is the butthole yeah you understand yes okay anyway during the late '90s Nissan along every other...
**Conclusion**
RAC tracks are super important to me if you go to the track often bring a friend with you who's never gone before so they know how awesome it is. If there's a race in your area go out there and watch it. If you've never been to a race before dude, awesome, go see it for yourself and see why it's so important that we keep places like Laguna open.
All right be kind see you next time.
