Pioneer HTP-074 Home Theater In A Box - Unboxing

Unboxing and Basic Setup of the Pioneer HTP Zero Seven Four Home Theater in a Box

Today we're going to unbox and do some basic setup on the Pioneer HTP Zero Seven Four, affectionately known as a home theater in a box. This is everything you need to add a huge sound to that big picture that you've got going on.

As we can see, there's quite a bit of stuff in the box, but let's take a closer look at what's included. We've got our subwoofer, AV receiver, remote control with batteries, and AM and FM antennas for satellite speakers. There's also a center channel speaker wire for all those, along with mounting brackets to help you get everything up and running.

One of the best things about this system is that it has an AV receiver as the hub for all your devices. So, when you plug in your Blu-ray player, cable box, game console, or whatever else you've got, it will all go through the receiver. The receiver supports HDMI ARC, which means that anything coming from an HDMI-ARC connected TV will come back to the receiver, so your streaming apps will be played through the receiver. If you don't have a compatible TV, you can always use optical digital output instead.

We've also got individual HDMI ports on the receiver, which is perfect for connecting older devices with composite and analog audio connections. And, as we can see, everything is clearly labeled, so you know exactly which wire goes to which speaker. I like to wire my speakers one at a time, just to avoid confusion about which wire goes where.

Before we can start connecting our wires to the speaker and receiver, let's take a look at this diagram, which explains how to place the speakers in a 5.1 system. We've got front left and right speakers, a center channel for all your dialogue, and surround speakers that go just behind and off to the sides of the couch. The subwoofer speaker level output is also included.

Now it's time to connect our wires to the speaker and receiver. Take the red-banded wire and put it in the red conductor on the back of the speaker, then put the other speaker conductor in the black terminal. Repeat this process on the receiver. And that's how you get everything connected!

Next, we need to make sure our speakers are placed correctly according to the diagram. The key is to face the TV from your seating position when determining left and right.

We've also got a remote control that will let us switch between all the different inputs available. This system also launched Bluetooth audio, so we can stream music wirelessly from our phone or tablet.

Now, it's time for some important adjustments in the settings section of the receiver. We're going to select manual speaker setup and adjust the speaker distance based on the measurement of each speaker to our listening location. The goal is to balance the loudness of each speaker relative to our seating position, so that speakers closer to us don't overpower those further away.

To do this, we can download a free DB meter app on our phone and measure the level of the test tone output. From the home menu, we'll go down to number four and make sure AR is turned on to see if our AR-C HDMI cable is connected to our TV.

That's it for our unboxing and basic setup of the Pioneer HTP Zero Seven Four Home Theater in a Box. If you want to learn more about this system, including what to expect from the sound quality, be sure to check out our full review.
