"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhere's everything new with carplay as part of iOS 17. welcome everybody to Apple Insider it is Andrew here and with iOS 17 Apple has some really nice changes in store for car play but before we talk about iOS 17 changes we need to talk about the Next Generation version of carplay that is still coming Apple previewed the Next Generation version of carplay with iOS 16 but since then we haven't heard much about it the new version of carplay that will be coming will be an immersive experience that'll live all over your car whether you're looking at the infotainment system in the center whether you're looking in the instrument cluster whether you're looking at the passenger side displays whatever displays you have in your car carplay will be able to adapt to now of course this requires verbo support from car manufacturers and right now only a few have promised to adopt support for the new version of carplay so so if I was 17 we're still seeing mainly the same version of carplay that we've seen for the last several years just with these new enhancements but a Next Generation version of carplay is still coming Apple said we should see the first vehicles with this new version of carplay by the end of 2023 so these changes will likely be packed into iOS 17 but we're going to need support from car manufacturers before these are all realized of course as soon as a new version of carplay is released I will be there to give you a first look with that said let's talk about what's new in iOS 17. one of the first things I can't demo because I don't have an electric vehicle but electric vehicle owners can now get real-time charging information inside of carplay this even extends within Apple Maps so you can see charger availability for your preferred network inside a carplay and Apple maps that way when you're driving you can see what Chargers are available around you that you can pop over and charge up they should make it a lot easier to find a charger while you're driving talking about Maps we also have another big update coming this feature I am super excited about I actually had this exact experience in Iceland where we were driving we had our navigation then all of a sudden the road turned to dirt and several were closed and we couldn't get where we were going because we had no cell service in this part of the island but with iOS 17 apple is finally adding support for offline maps before you head out you can choose an area and save that to your phone so it's still available when you are offline and won't require any data to access that way if you go off the grid you don't have cell service you can still get new routing information find a way around look at the math all without having to require data connection it's super handy you can add it to anywhere around you pick a place just type in a search scale it to where you want it'll give you a preview of how much information this will store on your phone you can go ahead and delete any of these when you're done there's all these other features including optimizing storage where it can delete these proactively for you that way you can free up space on your phone when you need it but basically we have offline maps it'll work on your phone it'll work inside of car play and I'm all about it shareplay support for Apple music this is so cool while you're driving your passengers will all be able to chip in and help control the music they can add songs to the playlist they can control the playlist all from their devices they don't have to try to reach up and touch the infotainment system they can just add it from their phones the driver can initiate a share play session directly from the playing screen inside of carplay whether it be QR code displayed on screen even if your passengers don't have an active subscription to Apple music they're able to chime in and help control the music adding to the playlist as they please it's a really cool feature families are going to love it friends are loving us kids are going to love this it's just a really neat way share play for Apple music is coming to other places as well but specifically it's built right here into carplay and designed for passengers to help be able to take control of what's playing in in the car it's now quicker and easier than ever to invoke Siri inside of carplay you no longer need to say hey Apple assistant you can just say apple assistant's name and it will be invoked you can ask any question you need getting directions sending a message checking notifications calendar whatever it is that you're using Siri for you just don't have to say hey first it makes it a lot easier apples also just made talking to Siri generally better this year by allowing you to ask multiple queries at once so you can ask a query Siri will respond back and you can ask something else without having to re-invoke Siri all over again so just conversing with Apple's assistant is much better now that Apple has dropped that key phrase from before its name Apple has an all new interface for ascending and receiving messages inside of carplay when you go to send a message there's a much larger interface that pops up very large tap surfaces so if you do need to tap and interact with your message whether you're stopping it or playing it anything like that it's very easy to do with very large Targets on screen and there's even a little individual option where you can mute or announce messages from that conversation so you don't have to do everything system-wide you can just do it on a per conversation basis hey sorry to pop into you like that but I'm going to give you a quick tip on how you can save up to twelve hundred dollars
