Sony brings Dolby Atmos surround sound to its new soundbar at CES 2017

A Look at Sony's HTS 5000: A Revolutionary Dolby Atmos Sound Bar

As we stepped into the special demonstration room within the Sony booth at CES 2017, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. The device that caught my attention was the HTS 5000, Sony's new Dolby Atmos sound bar that promised to revolutionize the home theater experience.

One of the things that impressed me about this sound bar is its fidelity, which goes beyond just surround sound effects. The sound quality itself is truly solid, with a level of clarity and precision that sets it apart from other Dolby Atmos sound bars on the market. And what's impressive is that there are 12 drivers in total, each individually amplified to ensure maximum impact.

But what really stands out about this sound bar is its ability to create a seamless and immersive experience. To achieve this, Sony has designed a system that can accommodate up to a 17-foot ceiling, most other sound bars only manage an eight or nine foot ceiling. However, there's a calibration section within the menu that allows users to extend the ceiling height to around 17 feet, reducing the delay time for the Atmos signal and creating a single, contiguous hemisphere of surround sound.

This is where Dolby Atmos truly shines, providing a multitude of effects above and coming down on you. It's like being inside the movie itself – when it rains, you might actually feel a drop hitting your head or shoulders. This level of immersion is something that home theater enthusiasts have been waiting for, and Sony has delivered.

Another key feature of this sound bar is its subwoofer, which plays a crucial role in anchoring the system and providing impact. What sets this subwoofer apart is its active driver and passive radiator design, both front-firing and bottom-firing. This results in a tight and tuneful bass sound that's perfect for music as well as movies.

But Sony hasn't stopped there – this sound bar is also high-res audio capable, allowing users to stream nearly anything they want, from CDs to DVDs to proprietary DSD format. And with the recent release of the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player, users can now enjoy a seamless transition between different formats and disc types.

So if you're in the market for a new Dolby Atmos sound bar, I highly recommend checking out the HTS 5000. With its impressive sound quality, immersive experience, and robust features, it's an investment that's sure to pay off.

in subwoofer like we see with so many home theater in a box systems or even other Dolby Atmos sound bars we're seeing out there it's got an active driver and a passive radiator is both front firing and bottom firing alright so that gives you a nice tight bass sound that's very tuneful and should sound great for music as well as movies and that's another key this Atmos on bar is high res audio capable so you can stream nearly anything to it and that now that Sony has a 4k Ultra HD blue a player that's going to come in convenient handle any disk you throw out it's a universal disc player so it doesn't matter whether you're talking about sa CD DVD audio or Sony's proprietary DSD format it's going to be able to handle all of that send it to the sound bars are getting great music out of this thing as well as movies if you're looking at a Dolby Atmos sound bar in the coming year I definitely recommend that you check out the HTS 5000hey we're in a special demonstration room within the Sony booth at CES 2017 I want to show you the HTS 5000 this is Sony's new Dolby Atmos sound bar later on down the road it will also get an upgrade for DTS X compatibility I wanted to show you this one in particular because we're seeing a lot of Dolby Atmos sound bars around the show but this one is the one that has impressed me most so far and I think that's because of the fidelity the sound quality itself beyond those surround sound effects is really solid so what we have here is an 800 watt system and each driver in this system is individually amplified I think that has a lot to do with why it sounds so good there's 12 drivers in total but the ones I want to show you are right up top this is how you get the top downs Atmos effect by shooting sound up at the ceiling and refracting it downwards one of the cool things about this sound bar in particular is that it can accommodate up to a 17 foot ceiling most ammo sound bars can only handle about an eight or a nine foot ceiling but there's a calibration section within the menu of this thing that lets you extend that up to about 17 feet that reduces the amount of delay time that the Atmos signal has to reach the ceiling and come back to you so it's one big contiguous hemisphere of surround sign that's really the advantage with Atmos is that you get a lot of effects above you and coming down on you I like to say when it's raining in the movie it feels like you might actually get a little wet because the raindrops feel like they're coming down on top of you one of the things anchoring this system and providing so much of its impact is the subwoofer and what I like is this is not just a phone -
