HW News - Mini-ITX AM5 Motherboards, New Airflow Cases, & Windows 11 Data Loss

**Objective Display Metrics**

Unfortunately, there are no rankings that exceed 9000 here and the ranges 1 000 interval steps to represent the different visually distinguishable changes in clarity so every 1000 mark is something that you will definitely notice. This is what they're saying cmr will be applicable to all digital displays that includes monitors, TVs, theoretically embedded displays or things like that. And it's regardless of panel type, vendors who want to take part of this have to send their displays out to an authorized test center and pay for validation at this time. Although, only a handful of LG and HP monitors have been certified.

**Response Times and Refresh Rates**

Response times and refresh rates don't necessarily translate to image quality when there's motion. Where you get even a 240 Hertz monitor can look like a blurry mess if it's not configured correctly and calibrated correctly from the factory. So, this type of objective metric is one that could potentially add some real value to the display selection space. Just it becomes a matter of if it can be gained by manufacturers.

**Corsair: The Bendy Monitor**

Speaking of monitors, makes a bendy monitor. This one is its recently announced endeavor to fix a problem that we all know monitors have even since the CRT days and that's that they don't bend. Corsair announced its Xenon Flex 45 WQHD 240. This is the bendy straw equivalent in monitors. The monitor uses a mechanical backplane that the user can adjust to modify the radius of the curve of the monitor. The company markets it as "the world's first 45-inch 21:9 OLED gaming display." Just like we're the "world's first computer hardware review channel named Gamer's Nexus."

**The Bend**

The display can go from flat to an 800 R bend. It's an interesting gimmick although realistically, like most middling products that can kind of bounce between things people will probably just set it to one of the settings and then never touch it again.

**Windows 11 and Data Damage**

Windows 11 might damage your data. No, that's not hyperbole, that's what Microsoft says. Windows has released a bulletin now for potential data damage they call it for modern architectures of CPUs and platforms this applies to PCs and servers running Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022 with CPU supporting Vector Advanced Encryption Standard or V-A-E-S affected architectures include Intel's Ice Lake Tiger Lake and Rocket Lake as well as AMD's Zen4 Alderley. Could theoretically be affected but only if the user has disabled e-cores and enabled AVX-512.

**Data Damage Mitigation**

Microsoft is not specific about how much or what type of data damage could be occurring or if it's recoverable. But recommends updating to at least the May 24th Preview Release to mitigate the issue. Those users who already downloaded this update could be experiencing performance degradation as bad as half the original performance in AES or V-A-E-S operations such as in BitLocker, TLS, or disk throughput especially for Enterprise.

**Updating to Fix Performance Degradation**

Updating to the June 23rd Preview or July 12th Security Release will restore the performance lost. Lord of the Rings Keyboard

**Dwarven and Elvish Keyboards**

Up next, these are a real and licensed thing. Drop has partnered with Middle Earth Enterprises to release Dwarven and Elvish keyboards. Dwarvish and Lord of the Reigns lingo I everybody's dwarven I'm gonna get get yelled at in the comments. So there's keycap sets here as well. It's well known of course among fantasy buffs that Tolkien created functional languages for his world that can be both written and spoken.

**Fantasy Language Keyboards**

Now you can own purpose-built keyboards to type them. The pre-built keyboards are based on Drop's Aluminum Enter model which is a 10-keyless board and connects via USB-C. The switches do feature white LED backlighting but the light doesn't come through the keycaps themselves as they are die-sublimated PBT. The included keycap sets are the Training Variety which feature both fantasy and real-life legends in addition to those.

**Standalone Keycap Sets**

The standalone sets are available in Hardcore, these are printed in only the Fantasy Legend and an Ortho Linear so it's for keyboards built on a grid rather than a standard layout. And uh it's just up to you of how well you can read the languages or if you've memorized the keyboard in which case you're fine according to one of the questions in the Q&A section on the page.

**Elvish Ortholinear Option**

Although, we've got a good one here the user said any plans for a Hardcore Elvish Ortholinear option so combining all of them and um to our knowledge the answer is no sadly that's it for this one.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey everyone welcome back to the hardware news recap for the week and this one we have a packed episode of hardware launches hardware leaks and other hardware news among them asus has more details on x670e motherboards and there's one that's actually really it's going to have a mixed reaction to it which is a mini itx board that has no on-board audio you don't see a lot of that right now it instead ships a a dac with it instead of including it on the board we'll also be going over some leaks of amd ryzen 7000 cpus and talking about a couple of displays including one that's a seven inch display from ek water block so let's get started before that this video is brought to you by thermal grizzly thermal grizzlies hydronaut and cryonic thermal paste are high-performing thermal interfaces for use on cpus and gpus you can bring an old card back to peak performance by replacing it and doing preventative maintenance and thermal grizzlies hydrant is ideal for water cooling and air quote for new and old cards alike cryonot paste is one of the top performing pace for extreme overclocking with cpus and gpus and has been used in several world record scoring machines learn more at the link in the description below first up some of you have been around long enough to remember our cat angels support where cat angels is a local charity that as you can imagine is a cat shelter it's a no kill shelter we've been there and visited with them many times and anyway we're doing a charity drive right now where ten percent of all the sales from the gn store for the next couple weeks will be going to cat angels directly that's 10 of total revenue from the store and uh they do great work like i said we built them a computer years ago there's a video on the channel and they take really good care of cats locally they do adoptions and they just keep the cats on site if they need it for long-term care and actually they came up recently because epic games which is local to us contacted me one of the people there and said hey can you connect us with cat angels because there are some stray cats on the property we're developing and we would like to capture them safely so that we can get them away from the demolition of the building we're tearing down and so we connected them and it was it was a good ending to that story where they were able to go in rescue the cats and uh who knows maybe epic games will adopt them and they'll become office cats in the future anyway ten percent of the revenue from store.gamersaxis.net for the next few weeks will be given directly to cat angels and if you want to help out you should grab something there we have some coasters in stock the four pack computer hardware coasters these are super cool unique products that we developed entirely in the house and they use a 3d design that shows different components like gpus smds cpu vrm or motherboard components and even just a simple computer fan we have an okay amount of these in stock right now but we actually do not plan on restocking this particular coaster pack anytime in the near future so if you want it this is going to be your last chance for now at least that you'll have to get it and as we said before these are meant to be sort of a collectible series going forward so you can imagine we have more coming up but if you want to grab the first pack this is going to be the last opportunity for quite a while and it helps to support them with their cat rescue and adoptions okay so fun news aside and positive stuff let's talk about asus removing onboard audio much to the chagrin of users everywhere potentially asus is the first of the x670e motherboard makers to really get into detail on some of its micro atx and mini itx motherboards and this is for the upcoming ryzen 7000 series cpus which we'll probably be hearing more about very soon we've previously covered x670 and x670e announcements over the past few months now but most of the ones we've talked about have been atx so starting with micro atx asus announced the crosshair x670e gene this features a single pcie gen 5x16 slot two gen five m.2 slots one gen four m.2 slot a postcode readout 16 plus two phase vrms and other high-end features like usb4 the board features only two ddr5 slots though which leaves room for asus's rog gen z2 card which holds two of the m.2 draw now the gen z.2 card of course also known as the zoomer card up next moving down in size to mini itx asus reveals the rog strix x670 e i o e i o gaming wi-fi compared to the gene the itx board is down by one gen five m.2 slot and it's missing a handful of connectivity options due to the size asus also announced its new marketing contrivancy the rog strix hive as a reminder uh strix comes from the owl genus called the strix it's an owl and as we all know owls live in hives very well known fact at this point hence the rog strix hive maybe not the most consistent naming scheme but it's hard to be mad at something human legible compared to whatever this is the strix hive is an external control hub featuring usb ports diagnostic leds buttons for pbo and bios flashback a programmable flex key of course the natural inclination would be to program your flex key to make a chain sound and there's an audio dac and asus doesn't just mean a dac like an extra it's actually the only dac we've gotten to the point where we're apparently willing to sacrifice onboard audio as a feature the base motherboard has none here and so here's your engagement challenge on this let us know in the comments what you think of this genuinely uh we're really curious here because onboard audio has been around for a long time and er we haven't seen many boards in this space without it of course there's still boards that don't include onboard audio but let us know if you think you're okay with reusing the real estate for other things to then use a separate dac for it aside from these motherboards these small ones and their creative solutions asus also has a couple of the atx pro artboards they've got the pro art x670e creator wi-fi and the prime x670e pro wi-fi as well we'll probably be talking about these motherboards more in the near future including their competitors of course as we get into x670 ryzen 7000 testing we have some really good tests lined up for it and personally i'm excited to get back into some extreme overclocking with liquid nitrogen on these cpus because uh it's been a while and these look like they're gonna be fun to work with so we'll have some live streams about that once it's time all right next one surprising nobody there's another ryzen 7 000 leak this time it's the 700x when uh when first reading that name i said why are we talking about the intel 7700x that cpu was a bizarre weird failure if you don't remember for the x299 platform that intel killed very early the answer is we're now reusing numbers so there's a limited amount of numbers and unfortunately we just got to keep using the same one so this time it's a benchmark of the 7700x 8 core cpu running cinebench r20 extreme player on billy billy posted a video covering several items regarding am5 7000 series cpus and this leak the alleged 7700x allegedly scored 773 points for single core performance and 77.01 points for multi-core so if you don't know how cinebench works it's just a tile-based rendering program so it's more similar to blender cycles rendering in that regard where it'll spawn one tile per thread present on the cpu not quite a linear gain for each thread if you rely on smt or hyper threading but it's a fairly uh predictable progression of performance nice alliteration there based on the core count so for this one if you look around the internet you'll find 5800x data for example that would translate these results to roughly a 24 increase in single core performance versus a 5800x from last generation or about a 26 increase in multi-core performance for this specific benchmark it doesn't translate to everything cinebench doesn't represent gaming at all um it could somewhat be extrapolated for blender cycles rendering title base or android but you get the idea so if this holds here amd's got a strong generational improvement for am5 and zenfore cpus and as we test it we'll know more now as a reminder andy has its event coming up very soon august 29th we'll be covering it and you should check back on this channel to get the coverage immediately when amd lets it out about what they're doing all right up next ek is launching a tiny display this is a an ek quantum monitor that they're what they're calling it so that actually quantum goes on your computer and it is the lumen this launches with a seven inch ips panel inside of an aluminum frame it has holes to facilitate mounting sort of wherever you can fit it and the lumen has a resolution of 1024x600 it uses hdmi for the display signal and it'll show up just like any other monitor to your os type c is also included but we're unsure if it's only there for power or if you can leverage the display port over type ce as well now the announcement page claims the lumen will add another dimension to your pc now of course the ek marketing page couldn't get by without some sort of silly language and this one said that it will add another dimension to your pc so up there with 4d armrests we're now in the tester act of gaming computers where it just seems to infinitely spiral into itself as one dimension absorbs another and they create this time dilation device that distorts reality that i don't i don't know it's it's always dimensions cooler master has some new cases the cmp 520 and the 320 cases so these are launching as budget oriented options that are focused on air cooling they have i misread the product page and thought it said geodude and much to my chagrin it did not i think it just said like geometry or something so that was that was sad it's not a geodude case but cooler match if you're listening i don't think nintendo would mind if you use their ip to make a geodude case because i think that would be cool anyway these have argb fans behind a mesh front panel that panel is advertised as being inspired by asymmetrical crystal formations but it's clearly rotationally symmetrical so cooler master get your marketing right the two new cmp cases are very similar with 520 being intended for atx motherboards and below and the 320 maxing out at micro atx motherboards similarities include a tempered glass side panel almost a given these days argb 120 mil fans support for 240 millimeter radiators and 280s and support for large graphics cards cooler master is also launching l versions of both cases that do not have a rgb controllers or front fans and instead only come with a single rear unilluminated 120 mil fan we don't know pricing for these cases yet but between the stamped steel construction the lack of cable grommets and the pop-out style pcie slot covers we're certain that it will be on the low end even more so for the l variants that said as long as they perform fine then the money saved can be used to go into other components that matter more and while we're on this topic let us know in the comments for some of our next case reviews what price range would you like us to look at we've looked at stuff all over the spectrum of probably about 80 to 200 recently we haven't really looked at anything under 80. if you're interested in that category give us some suggestions in the comments there's your engagement challenge for the week and uh find us some things that you think would be interesting to have data on some let's say let's say like 30 to 80 price range and then we'll look at some of the highest voted ones up next fractal has launched new cases onto the market it's got two mesh by twos and two of the defined sevens both are in mini and nano options so they're smaller the minis are for micro atx and below and the nanos are for mini itx or mini dtx and these new models follow after the torrent compact in nano previously if you haven't heard of mini dtx before it's relatively rare but it's not new it's a form factor that's taller than many itx but smaller than micro atx and wikipedia's image does a good job of showing this fractal kept the angular mesh motif on the mesh by 2 mini's front panel although it unfortunately has a nylon mesh filter behind the metal mesh we found that stacking filters like this causes unnecessary airflow impedance but it's all case-by-case basis some of them can get by with a little more than a few degrees of loss and some of them are much worse the power supply shroud is partially removable for the front radiator support and cable routing drive mounting options include two three and a half inch bays in the power supply shroud four two and a half inch mount locations total and fan support for the meshfy two mini includes two 120 mils or 140 mil fans on the top and up to three 120 or two 140s in the front so as the name implies just a small meshfy too the concerns here would be airflow being a bit rough for the gpu on this one you've got the power supply shroud that's closer because it doesn't have as many expansion slots between the two of them um and uh also fractal not doing anything particularly new here other than producing another wave of endless skus of designs that have been well received but probably don't need to have this many variations this reads very much like and i know a lot of people in the audience will will like this but it's very much like fractals getting suggestions of hey you should make a smaller one you should make a bigger one and then acting on every single one of them without maybe filtering for it might be a better use of resources to do something different in that category instead of just scaling the things at some level it's good because they're able to sort of reduce some of the costs hopefully past the consumers on the other hand fractal risks running really close to that line it used to be at with the old defined series if you remember the pre-match five days where everything just starts to look the same and they're doing that except with a different category now so anyway we'd like to see a little bit more variety here than just smaller and larger versions of the things that have been successful but this is sort of what fractal does they oscillate between new thing and then spamming the market with a bunch of that thing so anyway the define seven differences include a closed front panel with side vents a top panel that can be swapped for ventilated or solid two more type a usb ports up front some sound damping material on various panels and then the mash52 nano supports mini itx and mini dtx boards and features only two pcie expansion slots this case will have problems with modern gpu support it maxes out at 57 millimeters or 2.8 slots maximally this would put the cooler right up against the power supply shroud although the psu shroud surface is slightly ventilated even with that ventilation it's still ultimately going to have a power supply in it and a bunch of cables and maybe drives and then you still have to get outside of the case that chamber and down into the floor to bring air in so the ventilation not going to help a whole lot here and gpu air supply is going to be the biggest concern for this case we think you don't want to put something too high powered in there or too fat because then it's going to run too close to the power supply shroud and you're just restricting it now interestingly fractal does include an air guide for the bottom front of the case to direct airflow towards the video card it'd be fun to test it but we're just not going to test these cases because that require a new a new bench for something that's a different form factor than we normally do and we just don't have time right now for a bunch of cases that look the same as all the other cases they released to to say it frankly we've got a lot of other cases that are more interesting and new that we are having trouble getting through already now one feature we do like is that all the cases can have that very top panel entirely removed which gives much better ease of access for people building the computer to work in the top especially the eps 12 volt cables and that's something that has been popularized over the last couple years fantastic and fractal now i think fractal definitely fantastic they've done it and uh it's one of the best features we've seen on a case in a long time where it just makes the building process so much more painless so although if you want your cuts and bruises from your cpu tower cooler then you kick it old school and you buy a case where you can't remove the top thermal tank has a case as well so thermaltake is rounding out the block of case coverage this week with its vue 300 mx we might review it not sure yet we have a lot of cases backed up right now um def please let us know if you like if you don't care about this case let us know if you do care let us know we need both types of comments to filter and see if we should look at this one um keeping in mind that if we look at this case there's another one we won't look at we've got the new fractal focus as well so all right this one is a mid tower design with two 200 millimeter fans that are pre-installed they're argb they go on the front there's a mesh version and a solid version so it's kind of in that h500 class from cooler master in terms of where it's competing and the glass version unfortunately it looks like the glass ends up too close to those fans for them to really do a whole lot because if you remember 200 millimeter fans don't have a lot of pressure so when you start obstructing them they lose most of that performance and they just become leds that spin the case has lots of places for fans though there's support for 360 mil radiators at the front the top the right side panel positions and for this kind of case we would recommend populating that right side panel slot because even without a radiator you're going to want some kind of intake there so that the error doesn't just get sucked right out of the case so it's kind of the o11d style where it's got that side intake or side hole in front and if you have uh fans that are a fan that's next to a hole like that before it ever gets to the cpu tower the air is going to come in and some large portion of it will escape out the side of the case before it ever goes anywhere so not the best design there and if same thing if you populate the side but not the front you need something as a barrier either a sheet of glass or you use other fans that are intake as well so just keep that in mind with this one because otherwise you are going to be losing a lot of your cooling potential and the thermaltake promotional images do a really bad job of this where they show it actually as intake of the front and exhaust pulling it out immediately so hopefully these are just thermal takes new reversible suave fans that's the name of it which could be intake in this orientation but for any other fan you'd want to install them the usual orientation as the last feature to call out the expansion slot area can be rotated to natively support either traditional or vertical gpu mounting and a few three and a half inch drive bays that sit in the bottom so this case is supposed to be 160 it could be a decent performer in that price class if it's configured properly uh thermaltake here is giving you enough tools though to configure it in a really bad way doesn't necessarily mean thermaltake's done a bad job because it's up to you to populate the fan slots correctly but it does mean that they're taking away some of the training wheels that would prevent you from misconfiguring it in other situations up next vasa the video electronics standards association almost lost me there has launched a new certification that it is calling the clear motion ratio and this is called clear mr for short or cmr for even shorter clear motion ratio is designed to quantify motion blur and displays basic claims that the current method such as mprt or motion picture response time are flawed due to being time-based metrics and not accounting for image quality cmr is an actual numerical value based on the ratio of clear pixels to blurry pixels observed in specific test conditions as the website says clear mr 7000 for example is defined as a cmr range of 65 to 75 times more clear pixels than blurry pixels so this approach uses a high speed camera to take pictures of the display and then what it does is it compiles the images and it profiles them to analyze this cmr value and products are tested in their default out of box state for the maximum refresh rate and backlight strobing is an exception where for what vase is doing they mandate that it should be disabled for all of the tests if possible so cmr's broken up into a few tiers it goes from clear mr 3000 to clear mr 9 000. unfortunately there are not any rankings that exceed 9000 here and the ranges 1 000 interval steps to represent the different uh visually distinguishable changes in clarity so every 1000 mark is something that you will definitely notice is what they're saying cmr will be applicable to all digital displays that includes monitors tvs theoretically embedded displays or things like that and it's regardless of panel type vendors who want to take part of this have programmable flex key of course the natural inclination would be to program your flex key to make a chain sound and there's an audio dac and asus doesn't just mean a dac like an extra it's actually the only dac we've gotten to the point where we're apparently willing to sacrifice onboard audio as a feature the base motherboard has none here and so here's your engagement challenge on this let us know in the comments what you think of this genuinely uh we're really curious here because onboard audio has been around for a long time and er we haven't seen many boards in this space without it of course there's still boards that don't include onboard audio but let us know if you think you're okay with reusing the real estate for other things to then use a separate dac for it aside from these motherboards these small ones and their creative solutions asus also has a couple of the atx pro artboards they've got the pro art x670e creator wi-fi and the prime x670e pro wi-fi as well we'll probably be talking about these motherboards more in the near future including their competitors of course as we get into x670 ryzen 7000 testing we have some really good tests lined up for it and personally i'm excited to get back into some extreme overclocking with liquid nitrogen on these cpus because uh it's been a while and these look like they're gonna be fun to work with so we'll have some live streams about that once it's time all right next one surprising nobody there's another ryzen 7 000 leak this time it's the 700x when uh when first reading that name i said why are we talking about the intel 7700x that cpu was a bizarre weird failure if you don't remember for the x299 platform that intel killed very early the answer is we're now reusing numbers so there's a limited amount of numbers and unfortunately we just got to keep using the same one so this time it's a benchmark of the 7700x 8 core cpu running cinebench r20 extreme player on billy billy posted a video covering several items regarding am5 7000 series cpus and this leak the alleged 7700x allegedly scored 773 points for single core performance and 77.01 points for multi-core so if you don't know how cinebench works it's just a tile-based rendering program so it's more similar to blender cycles rendering in that regard where it'll spawn one tile per thread present on the cpu not quite a linear gain for each thread if you rely on smt or hyper threading but it's a fairly uh predictable progression of performance nice alliteration there based on the core count so for this one if you look around the internet you'll find 5800x data for example that would translate these results to roughly a 24 increase in single core performance versus a 5800x from last generation or about a 26 increase in multi-core performance for this specific benchmark it doesn't translate to everything cinebench doesn't represent gaming at all um it could somewhat be extrapolated for blender cycles rendering title base or android but you get the idea so if this holds here amd's got a strong generational improvement for am5 and zenfore cpus and as we test it we'll know more now as a reminder andy has its event coming up very soon august 29th we'll be covering it and you should check back on this channel to get the coverage immediately when amd lets it out about what they're doing all right up next ek is launching a tiny display this is a an ek quantum monitor that they're what they're calling it so that actually quantum goes on your computer and it is the lumen this launches with a seven inch ips panel inside of an aluminum frame it has holes to facilitate mounting sort of wherever you can fit it and the lumen has a resolution of 1024x600 it uses hdmi for the display signal and it'll show up just like any other monitor to your os type c is also included but we're unsure if it's only there for power or if you can leverage the display port over type ce as well now the announcement page claims the lumen will add another dimension to your pc now of course the ek marketing page couldn't get by without some sort of silly language and this one said that it will add another dimension to your pc so up there with 4d armrests we're now in the tester act of gaming computers where it just seems to infinitely spiral into itself as one dimension absorbs another and they create this time dilation device that distorts reality that i don't i don't know it's it's always dimensions cooler master has some new cases the cmp 520 and the 320 cases so these are launching as budget oriented options that are focused on air cooling they have i misread the product page and thought it said geodude and much to my chagrin it did not i think it just said like geometry or something so that was that was sad it's not a geodude case but cooler match if you're listening i don't think nintendo would mind if you use their ip to make a geodude case because i think that would be cool anyway these have argb fans behind a mesh front panel that panel is advertised as being inspired by asymmetrical crystal formations but it's clearly rotationally symmetrical so cooler master get your marketing right the two new cmp cases are very similar with 520 being intended for atx motherboards and below and the 320 maxing out at micro atx motherboards similarities include a tempered glass side panel almost a given these days argb 120 mil fans support for 240 millimeter radiators and 280s and support for large graphics cards cooler master is also launching l versions of both cases that do not have a rgb controllers or front fans and instead only come with a single rear unilluminated 120 mil fan we don't know pricing for these cases yet but between the stamped steel construction the lack of cable grommets and the pop-out style pcie slot covers we're certain that it will be on the low end even more so for the l variants that said as long as they perform fine then the money saved can be used to go into other components that matter more and while we're on this topic let us know in the comments for some of our next case reviews what price range would you like us to look at we've looked at stuff all over the spectrum of probably about 80 to 200 recently we haven't really looked at anything under 80. if you're interested in that category give us some suggestions in the comments there's your engagement challenge for the week and uh find us some things that you think would be interesting to have data on some let's say let's say like 30 to 80 price range and then we'll look at some of the highest voted ones up next fractal has launched new cases onto the market it's got two mesh by twos and two of the defined sevens both are in mini and nano options so they're smaller the minis are for micro atx and below and the nanos are for mini itx or mini dtx and these new models follow after the torrent compact in nano previously if you haven't heard of mini dtx before it's relatively rare but it's not new it's a form factor that's taller than many itx but smaller than micro atx and wikipedia's image does a good job of showing this fractal kept the angular mesh motif on the mesh by 2 mini's front panel although it unfortunately has a nylon mesh filter behind the metal mesh we found that stacking filters like this causes unnecessary airflow impedance but it's all case-by-case basis some of them can get by with a little more than a few degrees of loss and some of them are much worse the power supply shroud is partially removable for the front radiator support and cable routing drive mounting options include two three and a half inch bays in the power supply shroud four two and a half inch mount locations total and fan support for the meshfy two mini includes two 120 mils or 140 mil fans on the top and up to three 120 or two 140s in the front so as the name implies just a small meshfy too the concerns here would be airflow being a bit rough for the gpu on this one you've got the power supply shroud that's closer because it doesn't have as many expansion slots between the two of them um and uh also fractal not doing anything particularly new here other than producing another wave of endless skus of designs that have been well received but probably don't need to have this many variations this reads very much like and i know a lot of people in the audience will will like this but it's very much like fractals getting suggestions of hey you should make a smaller one you should make a bigger one and then acting on every single one of them without maybe filtering for it might be a better use of resources to do something different in that category instead of just scaling the things at some level it's good because they're able to sort of reduce some of the costs hopefully past the consumers on the other hand fractal risks running really close to that line it used to be at with the old defined series if you remember the pre-match five days where everything just starts to look the same and they're doing that except with a different category now so anyway we'd like to see a little bit more variety here than just smaller and larger versions of the things that have been successful but this is sort of what fractal does they oscillate between new thing and then spamming the market with a bunch of that thing so anyway the define seven differences include a closed front panel with side vents a top panel that can be swapped for ventilated or solid two more type a usb ports up front some sound damping material on various panels and then the mash52 nano supports mini itx and mini dtx boards and features only two pcie expansion slots this case will have problems with modern gpu support it maxes out at 57 millimeters or 2.8 slots maximally this would put the cooler right up against the power supply shroud although the psu shroud surface is slightly ventilated even with that ventilation it's still ultimately going to have a power supply in it and a bunch of cables and maybe drives and then you still have to get outside of the case that chamber and down into the floor to bring air in so the ventilation not going to help a whole lot here and gpu air supply is going to be the biggest concern for this case we think you don't want to put something too high powered in there or too fat because then it's going to run too close to the power supply shroud and you're just restricting it now interestingly fractal does include an air guide for the bottom front of the case to direct airflow towards the video card it'd be fun to test it but we're just not going to test these cases because that require a new a new bench for something that's a different form factor than we normally do and we just don't have time right now for a bunch of cases that look the same as all the other cases they released to to say it frankly we've got a lot of other cases that are more interesting and new that we are having trouble getting through already now one feature we do like is that all the cases can have that very top panel entirely removed which gives much better ease of access for people building the computer to work in the top especially the eps 12 volt cables and that's something that has been popularized over the last couple years fantastic and fractal now i think fractal definitely fantastic they've done it and uh it's one of the best features we've seen on a case in a long time where it just makes the building process so much more painless so although if you want your cuts and bruises from your cpu tower cooler then you kick it old school and you buy a case where you can't remove the top thermal tank has a case as well so thermaltake is rounding out the block of case coverage this week with its vue 300 mx we might review it not sure yet we have a lot of cases backed up right now um def please let us know if you like if you don't care about this case let us know if you do care let us know we need both types of comments to filter and see if we should look at this one um keeping in mind that if we look at this case there's another one we won't look at we've got the new fractal focus as well so all right this one is a mid tower design with two 200 millimeter fans that are pre-installed they're argb they go on the front there's a mesh version and a solid version so it's kind of in that h500 class from cooler master in terms of where it's competing and the glass version unfortunately it looks like the glass ends up too close to those fans for them to really do a whole lot because if you remember 200 millimeter fans don't have a lot of pressure so when you start obstructing them they lose most of that performance and they just become leds that spin the case has lots of places for fans though there's support for 360 mil radiators at the front the top the right side panel positions and for this kind of case we would recommend populating that right side panel slot because even without a radiator you're going to want some kind of intake there so that the error doesn't just get sucked right out of the case so it's kind of the o11d style where it's got that side intake or side hole in front and if you have uh fans that are a fan that's next to a hole like that before it ever gets to the cpu tower the air is going to come in and some large portion of it will escape out the side of the case before it ever goes anywhere so not the best design there and if same thing if you populate the side but not the front you need something as a barrier either a sheet of glass or you use other fans that are intake as well so just keep that in mind with this one because otherwise you are going to be losing a lot of your cooling potential and the thermaltake promotional images do a really bad job of this where they show it actually as intake of the front and exhaust pulling it out immediately so hopefully these are just thermal takes new reversible suave fans that's the name of it which could be intake in this orientation but for any other fan you'd want to install them the usual orientation as the last feature to call out the expansion slot area can be rotated to natively support either traditional or vertical gpu mounting and a few three and a half inch drive bays that sit in the bottom so this case is supposed to be 160 it could be a decent performer in that price class if it's configured properly uh thermaltake here is giving you enough tools though to configure it in a really bad way doesn't necessarily mean thermaltake's done a bad job because it's up to you to populate the fan slots correctly but it does mean that they're taking away some of the training wheels that would prevent you from misconfiguring it in other situations up next vasa the video electronics standards association almost lost me there has launched a new certification that it is calling the clear motion ratio and this is called clear mr for short or cmr for even shorter clear motion ratio is designed to quantify motion blur and displays basic claims that the current method such as mprt or motion picture response time are flawed due to being time-based metrics and not accounting for image quality cmr is an actual numerical value based on the ratio of clear pixels to blurry pixels observed in specific test conditions as the website says clear mr 7000 for example is defined as a cmr range of 65 to 75 times more clear pixels than blurry pixels so this approach uses a high speed camera to take pictures of the display and then what it does is it compiles the images and it profiles them to analyze this cmr value and products are tested in their default out of box state for the maximum refresh rate and backlight strobing is an exception where for what vase is doing they mandate that it should be disabled for all of the tests if possible so cmr's broken up into a few tiers it goes from clear mr 3000 to clear mr 9 000. unfortunately there are not any rankings that exceed 9000 here and the ranges 1 000 interval steps to represent the different uh visually distinguishable changes in clarity so every 1000 mark is something that you will definitely notice is what they're saying cmr will be applicable to all digital displays that includes monitors tvs theoretically embedded displays or things like that and it's regardless of panel type vendors who want to take part of this have to send their displays out to a authorized test center and pay for validation at this time though only a handful of lg and hp monitors have been certified response times and refresh rates don't necessarily translate to image quality when there's motion where you get even a 240 hertz monitor can look like a blurry mess if it's not configured correctly and calibrated correctly from the factory so this type of objective metric is one that could potentially add some real value to the display selection space just it becomes a matter of if it can be gained by manufacturers as always next one corsair speaking of monitors makes a bendy monitor this one is its recently announced endeavor to fix a problem that we all know monitors have even since the crt days and that's that they don't bend the corsair announced its xenon flex 45 wqhd 240. this is the bendy straw equivalent in monitors the monitor uses a mechanical backplane that the user can adjust to modify the radius of the curve of the monitor the company markets it as uh quote the world's first 45-inch 21x9 oled gaming display just like we're the world's first computer hardware review channel named gamer's nexus he is specified enough you can always be first tell that to the youtube commenters the display can go from flat to an 800 r bend it's an interesting gimmick although realistically like most middling products that can kind of bounce between things people will probably just set it to one of the settings and then never touch it again windows 11 might damage your data no that's not hyperbole that's what microsoft says windows has released a bulletin now for potential data damage they call it for modern architectures of cpus and platforms this applies to pcs and servers running windows 11 and windows server 2022 with cpu supporting vector advanced encryption standard or v-a-e-s affected architectures include intel's ice lake tiger lake and rocket lake as well as andy's zen4 alderley could theoretically be affected but only if the user has disabled e-cores and enabled avx-512 microsoft is not specific about how much or what type of data damage could be occurring or if it's recoverable but recommends updating to at least the may 24th preview release to mitigate the issue those users who already downloaded this update could be experiencing performance degradation as bad as half the original performance in aes or vaes operations such as in bitlocker tls or disk throughput especially for enterprise updating to the june 23 preview or july 12th security release will restore the performance lost uh lord of the rings keyboard up next these are a real and licensed thing drop has partnered with middle earth enterprises to release dwarven and elvish keyboards dwarvish and lord of the reigns lingo i everybody's dwarven i'm gonna get get yelled at in the comments uh so there's keycap sets here as well it's well known of course among fantasy buffs that tolkien created functional languages for his world that can be both written and spoken and now you can own purpose-built keyboards to type them the pre-built keyboards are based on drops aluminum enter model which is a 10 keyless board and connects via usbc the switches do feature white led backlighting but the light doesn't come through the keycaps themselves as they are die sublimated pbt the included keycap sets are the training variety which feature both fantasy and real life legends in addition to those the standalone sets are available in hardcore these are printed in only the fantasy legend and an ortho linear so it's for keyboards built on a grid rather than a standard layout and uh it's just up to you of how well you can read the languages or if you've memorized the keyboard in which case you're fine according to one of the questions in the q a section on the page though we've got a good one here the user said any plans for a hardcore elvish ortholinear option so combining all of them and um to our knowledge the answer is no sadly that's it for this one thanks for watching as always subscribe for more we have a ton of coverage coming up next week and i i mean i guess we can talk about it actually because amd has publicly announced its announcement so you can imagine that we will be covering the announcement that was previously announced so uh subscribe for that check back soon and thanks for watching we'll see you all next time\n"
