Samsung ATIV S Neo Unboxing

First Look: Samsung Galaxy S2 for Sprint

We've got ourselves a recycled box, made from 100 recyclable material, which is always kind of nice. Let's go ahead and open this sucker up and see what we're going to have living inside of this recycled box. We've got paperwork for getting started, as well as a recycle bag that Sprint will use to recycle your old cell phone and its old battery when you're done with them. That's a nice touch.

But the real star of the show here is the Windows Phone 8 device itself. It looks eerily familiar to a Samsung Galaxy S2, which doesn't surprise us given that it's essentially the same phone. We'll push it off the side for just a second and see what else we're going to have living inside of this recycled box. And there it is - a 4.8 inch screen with a 1280 by 720 pixel resolution, that's a 306 PPI. Windows Phone 8 at launch was powered by a 1.4 gigahertz Qualcomm dual core processor, but this particular device has a single gigabyte of RAM and 16 gigs of storage.

But you can expand that with a Micro SD card, which I'm going to assume lives somewhere under the back here. We'll take a look at that in just a second. This phone also comes equipped with an 8 megapixel camera, which is pretty decent. And on the front, we've got a 1.9 megapixel shooter that's sure to disappoint anyone looking for high-quality selfies. The device also features Bluetooth 4.0 and a 2000 milliamp hour battery.

Coming around, we can see the physical Windows home button, as well as capacitive search and back buttons. We've also got a volume rocker up and down, as well as your power and lock button and your obligatory camera button, which I really like having a dedicated camera button for. On the bottom of the phone, we've got a 3.5 millimeter headset Jack and a noise canceling microphone. And on the side, we've got a phone with no headset jack - it looks like they just didn't see the point.

Let's go ahead and see if we can get this back off and see if that is where uh your expandable storage is going to be. This device is LTE capable, which means you'll have access to Sprint's burgeoning LTE network when it launches. And with that, I'm excited to take a look at how the phone performs in real-world usage.

We've got the phone all booted up here and ready to go, and familiar modern UI looks. So you've got live tiles, obviously you can resize them to any size you want, no matter what that is. I will say I forgot how easy to use Windows Phone 8 was - my father had never used a smartphone before and he took to it really quickly. It was very intuitive for him to learn, and kind of fun to watch.

Let's slide it over and take a look at all the apps. Some Samsung-specific things, but for the most part, it's stock Windows phone and some Sprint things in here as well. This device does have NFC support, so you can do NFC-like beam things - for instance, if we go into photos and scroll on over, you'll see there's a TV and you could send things just as you would with NFC.

And let's take a look at the screen itself. It does 720p, but it looks really really nice. The Windows Phone tiles I think look beautiful on Samsung screens - they did a really nice job here. I'm excited to take a look at how it performs in real-world usage. We are stuck with um the Old Faithful 3G here in Southern California at least in Orange County for the time being, that photo right there by the way every Windows phone I've had for the life of me I thought I took a picture of where I was parked in a parking lot so I realized that was just a default picture that got shipped on a Windows phone.

I kept seeing it on other people's phones like why do you have my picture of where I parked my car because I have a really bad sense of direction - uh but that's just me.
