The GPD Pocket 2: A Revolutionary Seven-Inch Laptop
Hey guys, this is Austin, and welcome back to my channel. Today, I'm excited to show you the pre-production version of the brand new GPD Pocket 2, one of the world's smallest laptops with a seven-inch display.
As one of the world's smallest laptops, it's kind of crazy what you're able to get inside such a small form factor. But today, we're going to take a closer look at this tiny powerhouse. Inside this slightly suspicious-looking box is a pre-production version of the Pocket 2, which is already up on Indiegogo and has surpassed its funding goal.
Now, let's talk about what makes the original GPD Pocket pretty cool. It was a full Windows laptop in a tiny form factor, and that's something we're going to build upon with this new model. The Pocket 2 is actually even smaller than the original and packs more power into it. This is due to its taper design, which makes it look almost like a thinner, chunkier version of the original.
But what really sets the Pocket 2 apart is that it's got a lot more ports. Unlike other tiny laptops, this one comes with not only a pair of USB-A ports but also a micro-SD card slot, a headphone jack, and a full USB-C port. This means you can charge your phone, transfer files, and connect peripherals without worrying about running out of ports.
Now, I know what you're thinking - "Austin, build quality is always a concern with tiny laptops." And I've got to tell you, the GPD Pocket 2 has won me over in this department. The entire thing is made out of aluminum, and it feels incredibly sturdy. Even the hinge looks like it's been built to last.
One area where the original Pocket was lacking was performance, but that changes with the Pocket 2. This baby is rocking a full Core i3 processor, which makes a huge difference in terms of speed. And while this tiny laptop does have a fan, it's not as loud as you might expect. There's even a little button on the keyboard that lets you mute the fan when you need to.
The Pocket 2 comes paired with four gigabytes of RAM and a 128-gigabyte SSD, which is actually a pretty good deal for such a small laptop. And if you're looking for more storage, there's also an option for eight gigabytes of RAM - it's worth noting that most people are opting for the higher-end model.
One thing to keep in mind is that this 128-gigabyte SSD is on the lower end of what we'd expect from a laptop of this size. However, it's still plenty fast for normal use. And let me tell you, running a full version of Windows 10 on this tiny laptop is a thrill.
Now that I've got Fortnite loaded and running on my Pocket 2, I can tell you that it's actually pretty great. The touchscreen is accurate, although sometimes the little targets can be tiny. But once you get some scaling going, it becomes much easier to use. And yes, this thing packs some serious power - we're talking 360 watts here.
While the speaker isn't exactly top-notch, it gets pretty loud, which is great for its size. Just keep in mind that there's no really obvious spot to aim for when you want to get some sound out of it.
So, is the GPD Pocket 2 going to be for everyone? No way. But I've got to say - going for the world's smallest laptop actually has a lot of value to it. This thing can actually fit in your pocket, which is just mind-blowing.
Overall, if you're looking for a tiny laptop that packs a punch, the GPD Pocket 2 is definitely worth checking out.
WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- Hey guys this is Austin. This is the GPD Pocket,as one of the world'ssmallest laptops witha seven-inch display. It's kind of crazy what you're ableto get inside such a small form factor. But today, today it's time for an update. So inside this slightlysuspicious looking box,is a pre-production versionof the brand new Pocket 2.Now on Indiegogo this just went liveand is already way, way past its goal.So with some much nicer retail packagingwe have the Pocket itself. Now what made the originalPocket pretty coolwas that it is a full Windowslaptop in a tiny form-factor.And this, this is actuallygoing to be even smallerand almost more importantly than that,it's going to be more powerful. So its actually got a littlebit more of a taper now.So if we put it side byside with the original, you'll see that that one was littleon the thicker and chunkier side. But not only is this is going tobe a little bit thinner, but it even has more ports. So unlike something like 12 inch Macbookwhich has a single USB-C port, this tiny seven inch laptop hasnot only a pair of USB-A ports, but also a micro-SD, headphonejack, and a full USB-C port. One thing that Pocket definitelyhas down is build quality. The entire thing is going to be madeout of aluminum and itfeels incredibly sturdy.Typically speaking when you're talkingabout something that's this smallyou expect it to feelkinda plasticy or cheap, but that is definitely not the case. That even comes across to the hinge.Seriously this thing is builtincredibly, incredibly well.As opposed to the Atomprocessor the original version, this guy is rocking a full Core m3.That's gonna make a big differenceto performance and while that's typicallygoing to be found in fan-less designs, because this guy is going to be so smallit does a somewhat loud fan.So it's kinda helpful that there is goingto be a little button thatcan mostly mute the fanon the keyboard, probablybecause they knowthat it gets a little annoying. But the nice thing isthat you're actually goingto be getting some prettyserious performanceout of such a tiny, thin laptop. This model is paired withfour gigabytes of RAMand a 128 gigabyte SSD.Now if you take a lookat the Indiegogo pageit's clear that a lotmore people are optingfor the eight gig model, but for more basic use, four gig is actually going to be okay. But again, I think most people who arereally hardcore about these things, are gonna want the max spec they can get.Now the 128 gigabyte SSD is going to bea little bit on the lower end.But again, it's a seven inch laptop.Sure it's not going to be thefastest thing in the world, but it's totally fine for normal use. This guy is going to be runninga full version of Windows 10.Don't let the looks fool you,it is going to be a proper little laptop.Which of course only means one thing, its time, to play some Fortnite.- Is it?- Yeah of course it is. What do you mean? It's Fortnite time!Don't you want views Ken?Don't you want to see how Fortnite runson a seven inch laptop, onthe world's smallest laptop?I thought so.- Not really.- Well too bad. Cause I've alreadygot Fortnite loaded and you can't stop me.Do we dare go down to potato mode?Do we do full 360p?At first glance it, it canrun the loading screen.Wait a minute. This isactually, this works!I mean I'm at like 28frames-per-second, I'd buy that. Now as you might imagine witha laptop that's this small,You definitely, definitely need a mouse. The keyboard actuallydoes kind of work though. It's not ideal, but aslong as I have a mouse,it actually doesn't feel so bad.Alright, so Fortnite.Playable on the seven inchif you, don't enjoy, your own sanity. The screen isn't bad. Soit's a seven inch panelwith a 1920 by 1200 resolution.Which is going to be plentysharp on a display this size. Now this is going to bepre-production hardware,so you can't judge it too harshly. But my main issue is goingto be the brightness. It just isn't all that bright. While it's going to besomewhat color accurate,it does lean a littlebit on the cooler side.Hopefully by the time this actually shipsto everyone who is buying it on Indiegogo, and on Amazon later this year, they will be able to get a littleof a brighter panel in this guy.Compared to the original Pocket, the keyboard has been tweaked, and definitely for the better. So not only is it goingto be a little bit taller,so before there goingto be some wasted space, but they've also gottenrid of this little nub.Instead there's going to bethis tiny little touch pad.Which is not only going to be used asa tiny, tiny little cursor, but you can also click it.It's a little bit weird, but the biggest differenceis definitely going to be inthe better keyboard layout.Still going to be smalland hard to get used to,but it is a big improvement. The real way to use this is going to beto take advantage of the touchscreen. Now it is going to be pretty accurate, the biggest issue is justbecause it is so small.A lot of the Windowstouch targets are tiny, but once you get some scaling on this guy,it's not going to be so bad.- And 360 watts, that's a lot of watts my friends.- The speaker is not exactlygoing to be all that great,it gets pretty loud, but the issue is,I think it's kind of hiddenunderneath the keyboard. There's no obvious sort of spot whereit's actually going tobe exhausting sound. Can you exhaust sound? That's not a thing. At already $600 in Indiegogofor the higher-end model, and it's going to be even more expensivewhen it's available onretail sale later this year. The GPD Pocket 2 is notgoing to be for everyone. But it's a dope little laptopand while there's always going to bemore and more differentthin and light laptops, that are going to be going forthat world's thinnest title,I've got to say going forthe world's smallest laptop, actually has a lot of value to it.I mean come on! This thingactually fits in your pocket.
