Sony A95K vs. LG G2 _ QD-OLED vs. OLED _ Which TV is better
The LG G2 vs Sony A95K: A Comparison of Two of the Best TVs on the Market
Not only is the LG G2 brighter, but it also has just the slightest edge over the Sony in terms of bright highlight detail. This may seem like a minor difference, but it's an important one for those who want to experience the best possible picture quality. While both TVs are capable of extremely accurate color, the Sony A95K takes the lead in this department with its dazzling color brightness.
However, when it comes to color accuracy itself, both TVs are able to deliver excellent results. In fact, the LG G2 is only slightly less accurate than the Sony A95K. So, while the Sony may have a slight edge in terms of color brightness, the difference between the two TVs in terms of overall color accuracy is relatively small.
One area where the LG G2 does take the lead is in terms of motion handling. The TV's processing department has gotten significantly better, and it's able to handle fast-paced content with ease. While the Sony A95K still offers excellent motion handling, the LG G2 is closer to perfection. In fact, the fine control that the Sony offers over motion can sometimes introduce a bit too much soap opera effect, which can be distracting for some viewers.
Another area where the LG G2 shines is in its ability to handle lower resolution content. The TV's processing department is able to take a 720p signal and turn it into a stunning high-definition image, complete with crisp details and vibrant colors. This makes it an excellent choice for those who watch a lot of cable or satellite TV.
However, one area where the Sony A95K takes the lead is in its ability to upscale lower resolution content. The TV's processing department is able to take a low-resolution signal and turn it into a stunning high-definition image that rivals that of native 4K content. This makes it an excellent choice for those who want to experience the best possible picture quality, even when watching lower resolution content.
In terms of color space, the LG G2 offers a 444 chroma setting, while the Sony A95K offers a 422 chroma setting. While this may seem like a minor difference, it's an important one for those who want to experience the best possible picture quality. The LG G2's 444 chroma setting provides more color information and a wider color gamut, resulting in a more accurate and vivid image.
But what about the price? The Sony A95K is selling for around $1400 more than the LG G2, which is a significant difference. While both TVs are excellent choices, the LG G2 may be the better value for most people. Not only does it offer excellent picture quality, but it also comes in smaller size options and has a lower price point.
In conclusion, while the Sony A95K offers some advantages over the LG G2, particularly in terms of color brightness and fine control over motion, the LG G2 is still an excellent choice for those who want to experience great picture quality. Its brighter highlights, improved motion handling, and wider color gamut make it a compelling option for many viewers. And at a lower price point, it's likely to be the better value for most people.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis is a big one folks cutie oled versus w oled the sony a95k versus the lg g2 first gen tv tech versus 10th gen tv tank will we have a definitive winner or is it just too close to call stick with me because we're about to find out welcome back everyone i'm caleb dennison and i've been looking forward to making this video for a little over five months also if i'm being completely honest i've been a little nervous about making this video too i mean these are two extremely high performance tvs both of them are excellent but each of them has a handful of benefits over the other also there are strong feelings on both sides here so there is no doubt in my mind that i'm about to say something that you might not agree with but that's okay that's part of what makes this fun anyway this is kind of a dual purpose video i wanted to explain the key differences between qdo led and wo lead for any of you who may not know about how these two display technologies are different and since i think the a95k and lg g2 are two of the best examples of those technologies at work i figured we'd go ahead and put them head to head to see which one might be right for you if you're having trouble deciding between the two quick bit of business first thanks to ola dance for sponsoring this video more on that in a moment also we try to be as clear and succinct as possible here and if you appreciate that kind of approach there are some clickable buttons down below to show your support so you know the deal and while you're down there drop me a comment about what movie you would use if you really wanted to show off one of these two tvs let's have some fun with that all right let's get into it so let's start with an explanation around w oled and qd oled how are these different i mean they both have oled in the name right and by the way if you already know all this and just want to get to the tv comparison you can go ahead and jump ahead using the time codes down in the description anyway the tv tech we've been calling plain oled for about 10 years is only now getting called w oled more commonly because this newer display technology qd oled kind of prompts us to call out what's different about them in the name itself so the w in w oled stands for white and refers to a white sub pixel that helps make oled tvs brighter the qd and qd oled stands for quantum dots and represents a whole new way of using oled technology to make a picture now on a w oled which is made by lg display and has been the only kind of oled used in tvs up until about well now 2022 what you have is a blue and yellow oled compound making white light just zap those with electricity and you get white the white light from that pixel is then passed through a color filter so you can get red green and blue color primaries with which you can create just about any color you want the drawback with this approach is that when you carve red green or blue out of pure white you lose a bit of light energy in other words things get dimmer now you could just add more electricity and make the white light brighter but these are organic compounds we're talking about and the harder you burn them the shorter their lifespan becomes so to get around this little challenge lg display uses an additional white subpixel added to the red green and blue to help brighten everything back up now this process works really well and it's gotten a little bit better year after year leading up to the lg g2 here which is the best brightest version of w oled we've ever seen in a tv there are drawbacks to this tech though which i'll bring up in a moment now let's look at qd oled the way this tv tech works is that samsung display makes an oled panel using a blue oled compound and that lights up when you zap it with electricity and to get the red and green they need to make the colors they want they add quantum dots which are these tiny nanoparticles that glow when you shine light on them so the blue oled shine and then the red and green quantum dots glow with the blue light and there you have the rgb you need now you'll notice that with qdlit i didn't mention the brightness sucking color filter that you have in w oled because there isn't one it's not needed and that's where we get to one of the advantages that cutie oled brings to the table qd oled is capable of producing brighter highly saturated colors than w oled because it doesn't rely on a white light to brighten things up with wo lead that white light has a way of diluting colors as it makes them brighter so brighter color is one cutie oled advantage and we'll see how that plays out in a moment the other potential advantage to qd oled is that it should emphasis on should because only time will tell us for sure but it should have reduced risk of burn-in or image retention because of the way it operates it's technically less likely to be a problem even though i'd argue that burn in on w oleds isn't causing a ton of returns so it's hard to really quantify this advantage the advantage to w oled is that it can offer a perceptively brighter overall picture or average picture level because it's got that white light boost going on and our eyes readily pick up on that pair that with the perfect black levels that you get with either one of these technologies and you get very high contrast which again is the easiest thing for our brains to pick up on now i know many of you out there watching are super eager for me to get to the picture quality comparison because let's be honest that's the most exciting part right but let me give you a bit of a foreshadowing here the picture quality differences between these two tvs is going to end up being such a tight race that we really have to look at all the non-picture quality differences and add them up to help us figure out which is going to be the best tv for you so let's run down those real quick okay starting with design both tvs can be wall mounted but the lg g2 comes with an advantage for wall mounting because a no gap wall mount comes right in the box both will look great on the wall but the g2 will look that much sleeker now if you're stand mounting that's a different story entirely i do not like the stand for the lg g2 which is sold separately in the same way that you'll have to buy a wall mount for the sony it's wobbly and i just don't care for it the sony has a very modern look and sits flush on top of its stand which looks very cool to me but it leaves zero room for a sound bar wobbly as the g2 may be on a stand at least there's room for a sound bar as for remote controls the sony wins in my book it's a sleek backlit remote with just the right buttons on it and it'll chime for you if you lose it the lg uses a wii style motion remote it isn't backlit and there's more buttons on it than most folks really need plus it's a bit bulkier when it comes to inputs the lg g2 pulls ahead it has four hdmi 2.1 inputs one of which is an e-arc port while the sony only has two hdmi 2.1 inputs one of which is also an e-arc port they both have atsc 3.0 tuners in them though as for general user interface i prefer the sony a95 case implementation of google tv over lg's web os the sony is cleaner and while it isn't ad free it doesn't feel as ad-filled as lg's web os does to me also i feel like the sony is snappier to respond to my clicks and the menu is just laid out in a way that makes sense to me your mileage however may vary now where sound quality is concerned both tvs offer onboard audio that is far and away better than most competing tvs i give the sony a big advantage in this audio department though because its screen is the speaker and can offer very specific pinpoint placement of sounds that seem like they're coming from the objects or people on the screen also i just prefer the overall clarity and fidelity the two subwoofers in the back of the tv really add a lot of punch and on top of that you can use the sony a95k as the center channel in a surround sound system by connecting it to an av receiver which is a pretty clever plus when it comes to video games the lg g2 has several advantages over the sony 895k it starts with more hdmi 2.1 ports which i mentioned before and continues with support for g-sync free sync and generic vrr support plus the lg g2 offers a gaming dashboard that is at least fun if not genuinely handy the lg g2 also offers slightly lower input lag so when it comes to gaming i have to give it to the lg though i will say that for the vast majority of more casual video game players the sony a95k is in no way going to be any kind of letdown okay so if we lump all these non-picture quality factors together and try to call a winner what i can say is that i personally prefer the sony i prefer the overall design the remote control the smart tv os the sound quality and the gaming capabilities are gonna be good enough for me i know that i'll be happier overall living with the sony a95k based on those factors however you may feel differently the lg g2's wall mount is better it stand leaves room for a sound bar and there's no arguing it's the better choice for video game enthusiasts everything else is also very good so as you can see so far it's a really tight race we're still splitting hairs here will picture quality differences be the tipping point hey i just wanted to take a moment to talk about the oledance wearable stereo headset and here's the deal i love these yes this is a sponsored bit but i really love these they are true wireless but they are not earbuds they're open-ear headphones and if you think you've tried something like this before you have it not exactly you've heard the pitch before though right hear your music and your environment around you but where the transparency mode and conventional earbuds are those crazy bone conduction headphones fail these actually deliver there's nothing that goes in your ear the dual dynamic driver is housed here in this piece and this back piece is like a counterbalance that keeps them in place and when i say they're secure i mean go head banging while riding on a roller coaster you're gonna be fine most importantly though they sound really really good there's no compromised audio quality here so you get great sound coming from the ole dance while still being able to hear all around you working from home you can take your work calls and hear your family call out when they need you working at the office enjoy your music or podcast and nobody's creeping up on you taking a run or a bike ride you can hear your workout tracks and the traffic around you plus they're super comfortable and the battery lasts a full 16 hours so they'll go all day with you just pop them back in the charging case at night and they're ready to go when you wake up the oly dance open wireless stereo have an msrp of 179 but you can get the best price by clicking the link down in the description do it i'm telling you you're gonna love these thanks again to ola dance okay let's start with something that i didn't think was gonna be a thing but i've received a lot of requests around this so here goes because the qd oled doesn't have a polarizing filter in the panel the screen can look less than pitch black when light shines on it and this has some folks concerned that blacks may not look black when watching the tv during the day with light coming into the room and i understand that i suppose i was the first to point out the less than black screen in my first review of the a95k back in february but let's take a closer look now so here are the two tvs turned off with some light in the room we've got studio lights and ambient lights going on plus whatever's coming through the windows you can see the difference but what happens when we start watching content we're keeping the same lighting conditions and equalized camera settings while playing the same darker content on each tv so you can see for yourself well as well as can be seen through a camera on a compressed video on youtube on whatever screen you're watching so here's my take this is a non-issue unless you get this stuck in your head and can't stop yourself from looking for it once content is playing on the tv and you have shifting light levels black looks black on both tvs thanks to perceived contrast technically by the measurements the sony shows slightly elevated shadow details technically again by the measurements they could be a little bit darker but even by the measurements this is so slight it's barely worth mentioning seriously no tv is perfect so get hung up on this tiny thing if you want but it doesn't affect the viewing experience also if it's between slightly elevated shadows and not seeing any detail at all because they're crushed out i'm gonna side with the slightly elevated shadows with that said lg has done a great job altering its processing so the g2 comes out of black really well and definitely deserves a nod for that now let's hop to the other end of the spectrum average picture level or if you like we can call this general brightness i think the questions folks have here is around whether the lg g2 comes off as a noticeably brighter tv than the sony a95k and the answer is oh yeah absolutely the g2 is a perceivably brighter tv it's got the juice so it has a bit more impact when watching tv during the day no doubt about it but what about bright hdr highlights and bright highlight detail what do we see there well i used several clips including hdr10 and dolby vision versions of the same thing we've got batman versus superman here and for the most part not only is the g2 a bit brighter but i think it has just the tiniest slightest edge over the sony in the bright highlight detail department which is an odd thing to say since bright highlight detail is kind of sony's bag still using real content as my guide i have to give lg some props here so when it comes to just horsepower in the white brightness areas the lg has the edge now let's talk about color not so much color accuracy because both tvs are capable of extremely accurate color but color brightness i know we've talked about the sony a95k offering brighter colors before but how much brighter are we talking and would you really miss them if you chose not to get the a95k well the color brightness difference is noticeable both in direct comparison you should be able to plainly see it on these comparison clips but more importantly it's noticeable without the tv sitting next to each other make no mistake the color brightness on the sony is superior and it is extremely dazzling i'd go so far as to say that the color brightness is really what sells me on this tv but will you feel like you're missing out on something if you don't get the sony a95k it's kind of hard to make an argument that you would look there's so much else going on when watching content on these tvs there's just a lot to enjoy here i get geeked out by the brighter high saturation colors on the a95k because i review tvs and look at this stuff all the time but for most people without that frame of reference i don't know i i don't think you're gonna watch the g2 and be anything less than absolutely dazzled by it either and that factor there is really going to mean something in a minute now as for motion well i'm going to call it a draw here lg's motion handling has gotten really really good i still like the fine control sony offers i think it gets rid of jutter and stutter just enough without introducing too much soap opera effect and it's hard for me to let go of that but let me say it again lg is really bringing it in the processing department in general and motion is definitely included and upscaling well here you go we've got a 720p sling tv signal running to both of these tvs for this demonstration and you can see in this close-up of the sky at the end of independence day that not only is this lower resolution but the bit depth is low too look there's an old admittedly crude saying you can't polish a turd well both tvs try anyway and they do a decent job but they aren't miracle workers currently cable satellite and broadcast tv can be a bit messy blocky and choppy these tvs both do a good enough job helping dress that up but neither is blowing the other out of the water so i'm calling it a draw and i'm gonna cut it there look i can't do all of the things 444 chroma versus 422 chroma which makes a better pc monitor honestly folks that's some super niche deep dive stuff and there are plenty of channels out there that can dig into that stuff better than i can so i'll leave it to them i'm here to show each of these tv strengths and well weaknesses if you can even call them that in different areas and i hope i've done that to your liking these are both excellent awesome tvs and i hope that along the way you've heard which tv does whatever matters to you most the best and you've started to draw closer to one or the other for your personal choice i'll leave you with this thought though right now the 65-inch sony a95k is selling for about 1400 more than the 65 inch lg g2 that is a huge difference in price and while i love the a95k and i think it puts out the best picture i've ever seen i think that for 9 out of 10 people out there the lg g2 just makes more sense it can be hard to put a value on the first of its kind performance we're seeing out of the sony 895k i mean i think it deserves to demand a premium but fourteen hundred dollars more and that's when you can even find one to buy i think sony may have underestimated its popularity and it might be tough to get that tv for a while that's why the lg g2 is just gonna make more sense for more people also you can get it in more size options which is no small deal now lg g2 versus samsung s95b that is an entirely different conversation thanks as always for watching everyone what'd you think of our comparison what we got right what we got wrong let me know all about it down in the comments please consider liking and subscribing and here's two other videos i think you might likethis is a big one folks cutie oled versus w oled the sony a95k versus the lg g2 first gen tv tech versus 10th gen tv tank will we have a definitive winner or is it just color brightness on the sony is superior and it is extremely dazzling i'd go so far as to say that the color brightness is really what sells me on this tv but will you feel like you're missing out on something if you don't get the sony a95k it's kind of hard to make an argument that you would look there's so much else going on when watching content on these tvs there's just a lot to enjoy here i get geeked out by the brighter high saturation colors on the a95k because i review tvs and look at this stuff all the time but for most people without that frame of reference i don't know i i don't think you're gonna watch the g2 and be anything less than absolutely dazzled by it either and that factor there is really going to mean something in a minute now as for motion well i'm going to call it a draw here lg's motion handling has gotten really really good i still like the fine control sony offers i think it gets rid of jutter and stutter just enough without introducing too much soap opera effect and it's hard for me to let go of that but let me say it again lg is really bringing it in the processing department in general and motion is definitely included and upscaling well here you go we've got a 720p sling tv signal running to both of these tvs for this demonstration and you can see in this close-up of the sky at the end of independence day that not only is this lower resolution but the bit depth is low too look there's an old admittedly crude saying you can't polish a turd well both tvs try anyway and they do a decent job but they aren't miracle workers currently cable satellite and broadcast tv can be a bit messy blocky and choppy these tvs both do a good enough job helping dress that up but neither is blowing the other out of the water so i'm calling it a draw and i'm gonna cut it there look i can't do all of the things 444 chroma versus 422 chroma which makes a better pc monitor honestly folks that's some super niche deep dive stuff and there are plenty of channels out there that can dig into that stuff better than i can so i'll leave it to them i'm here to show each of these tv strengths and well weaknesses if you can even call them that in different areas and i hope i've done that to your liking these are both excellent awesome tvs and i hope that along the way you've heard which tv does whatever matters to you most the best and you've started to draw closer to one or the other for your personal choice i'll leave you with this thought though right now the 65-inch sony a95k is selling for about 1400 more than the 65 inch lg g2 that is a huge difference in price and while i love the a95k and i think it puts out the best picture i've ever seen i think that for 9 out of 10 people out there the lg g2 just makes more sense it can be hard to put a value on the first of its kind performance we're seeing out of the sony 895k i mean i think it deserves to demand a premium but fourteen hundred dollars more and that's when you can even find one to buy i think sony may have underestimated its popularity and it might be tough to get that tv for a while that's why the lg g2 is just gonna make more sense for more people also you can get it in more size options which is no small deal now lg g2 versus samsung s95b that is an entirely different conversation thanks as always for watching everyone what'd you think of our comparison what we got right what we got wrong let me know all about it down in the comments please consider liking and subscribing and here's two other videos i think you might like\n"
