Your Car Can Die: How to Jumpstart It
Your car can die for a number of reasons such as leaving your lights on, leaving a door open, and it happens at unexpected times. For instance, we are going out to film a comparison video between the S-Class and the M5 only to come to the M5 to realize the battery is dead. But it's really not that hard to jumpstart a battery.
The most important thing is to always have jumper cables available. I wasn't expecting my car to be dead obviously neither are you so have cables in every car that you own. First step pull the support vehicle up next to the dead vehicle. It's best actually if they're nose-to-nose but in this situation, the space doesn't really allow it then pop the hoods.
We'll go in the BMW here usually your hood releases right down below by your feet by the pedals safety latch pop the hood let's do the same on the Mercedes. Next step is to locate the positive terminals on the dead vehicle and the support vehicle. Notice on the BMW, the positive terminal of course, is indicated by a + flip this up that's your positive terminal.
Now we're going to locate the positive terminal on the Mercedes it's got a red plus symbol here slide that over that is the positive terminal you'll notice there's two ends of the jumper cables got black and red on this side black and red on the other side let's connect the red cable to the positive terminal of the dead vehicle make sure there's a good connection it's just metal to metal. Now rest the black cable somewhere out of the way not touching anything.
Let's connect it positive to the positive terminal of this battery now it's very important that at this time both cars are off otherwise you could have unnecessary sparks and caused hazards next step is to connect black cable on the support vehicle to the negative terminal and this Mercedes is located by a little negative sign you pull off this cover and connect it right here. Next step is to attach the black cable on the dead vehicle to the ground.
You'd think it would be to the negative terminal but that can cause sparking and a little bit of danger so on this BMW, it's located on the strut dome it's this exposed nut here connect that make sure there's a proper connection now you're good to go. Next step is to turn on the supporting vehicle for about two minutes to charge up the battery then hopefully there's enough power to start this up if there's not you can give some revs from the support vehicle to give this a little bit extra juice.
So now's the moment of truth we're gonna start up the dead vehicle and hope it runs it's very important once the vehicle is started to let it run for a while if you immediately turn the vehicle back off again, you risk the chances of the battery dying. Proper way to remove the cables now remove the negative terminal from the support vehicle first put that in a safe spot remove the negative terminal on the newly live vehicle put that in a safe location.
Now remove the positive terminal take the positive terminal off here close the hoods and now you're done so that's how you jump start a car. Hope you enjoyed this video like always, please browse our Channel and subscribe look forward to seeing you next video.
