The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet: A Refined Open-Top Ride
Fitted with a soft top, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet is a refined midsize premium 2-door convertible well-suited to pleasure seekers who want to be treated like celebrities. Hi I'm Jeffrey Reeves and I'm Jessica Tomi, and you're watching Auto Trader's new car review of the 2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet.
A welcome drop top addition to the Mercedes-Benz lineup, it's rare to see a new convertible come into production by nature they aren't too luxurious many are poorly insulated from the elements and road noise very true most convertible models now are of the folding hardtop variety. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class changes that with a strong triple layer fabric making the choice of soft top or hardtop a banner of personal preference and a soft top has the advantage of additional trunk space perfect for those long weekend getaways.
Add a few clever eClass features that promise a comfortable ride and you've got a roadmap to the kind of fun you'd have on the French Riviera. Yeah, it's quite roomy and the two seats and back have plenty of space and this seat is very supportive and there's a lot of range in the adjustments. I'm a little disappointed at the look and feel of some of these parts though, and controlling the entertainment and navigation system looks like it could be a little distracting with this joystick having a little trouble reading a climate control display in this light too well.
Let's not nitpick, I'm sure the ride will impress us. The E-Class Cabriolet comes in two trims, the e350 with a 268 horsepower 3.5 liter V6 engine and the II 550 with a 382 horsepower 5.5 liter V8. The standard 7-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are well suited to either engine. One of the most convenient pieces of available technology in the E-Class Cabriolet is the Distronic plus cruise control.
When Distronic plus is set, a radar signal gauge is the distance of the vehicle in front and manipulates both acceleration and braking even coming to a complete stop if necessary, and with that, a Mercedes ATTENTION ASSIST system that detects at the driver's drowsy. You can feel pretty safe in this car. The E-Class Cabriolet is a bit of a guilty pleasure when it comes to fuel economy, the V8 musters 15 city 22 highway, while the V6 improves that to 17 city 25 highway, that's consistent without es5 cabriolet V6 soft-top.
Also in the same price range, prices start at $56 thousand eight hundred and fifty dollars for the e350 Cabriolet. It takes an additional $7950 to purchase the v8 E 550 Cabriolet. Both cars carry the same four-year, 50,000-mile powertrain warranty, but the Audi has a more powerful supercharged engine and a more distinctive interior. You might also want to consider the BMW 328i hardtop convertible if fuel economy is a priority.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet is a car for convertible lovers who enjoy a refined open-top ride in a distinctive car that stands out in the crowd.
