Galaxy S8 Leaks - Is It Worth Upgrading _ Feb 2017

The Year of High Screens: Samsung's Latest Design Rumors

2017 is shaping up to be the year of high screens, and Samsung is at the forefront of this trend. The upcoming LG G6 is expected to feature an 18 by 9 or 2x1 aspect ratio screen, with a resolution of 2960 x 440, using Samsung's fantastic Super AMOLED panels. This will mark a significant increase in screen size, and potentially a more comfortable viewing experience due to the taller aspect ratio. While some may find larger screens unwieldy, Samsung is taking a bold approach by trimming the bezels to achieve this new design.

The result is a phone with an almost bezel-less design, featuring a massive 5.8 or 6.2-inch curved screen on the S8 and S8 Plus devices, respectively. The S7 Edge's flat design may have been preferable for some users, who found the edge of the screen to be a nuisance. However, if Samsung can find a way to make these new designs more comfortable to use, it could pay off in terms of user experience.

One area that will likely see change is the placement of the fingerprint reader. With the bezels being trimmed, there's less room for traditional front-facing fingerprint sensors. Instead, Samsung has opted to move the fingerprint sensor to the back of the phone, a design choice that may appeal to some users who find it more natural to use their index finger on the rear of the device.

Renders of the S8 have already surfaced, showcasing a new side button on the left side of the phone. This button will likely serve as a trigger for Samsung's Bixby virtual assistant, which is expected to be a key feature of the device. While some users may find another virtual assistant unnecessary, it's clear that Samsung sees potential in this technology and is investing heavily in its development.

Under the hood, the S8 is rumored to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 835 chip, which offers significant performance improvements over its predecessor. Additionally, the phone will likely boast a slightly larger battery, which should provide users with longer battery life. RAM options may also see an increase, with some rumors suggesting that the device could come with up to 6GB of storage.

The camera is another area where Samsung is expected to make significant improvements. While the S7's camera was already considered one of the best in the business, this year's model will likely build upon its strengths. A 12-megapixel sensor with a wide f1.7 aperture will remain, but expect improved Optical image stabilization and an enhanced dual-pixel Focus system. Some sources have also hinted at the inclusion of object recognition capabilities, which could be a game-changer for smartphone photography.

Finally, prices are expected to rise significantly, with the S8 starting at around £650 or $750. This is a steep price point, but it's clear that Samsung has set its sights on the high-end market and is willing to invest in premium materials and features to achieve this goal.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is shaping up to be an exciting device, with significant design improvements, enhanced performance, and improved camera capabilities. While prices may be a concern for some users, it's clear that Samsung has set its sights on creating a truly exceptional smartphone experience. As always, we'll have to wait until MWC in Barcelona at the end of February or early March to get our first official glimpse of the device.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enI'm a big fan of the Galaxy S7 it's been my daily driver since it came out and while I have been tempted to switch to the Google pixel or even the Huawei mate 9 I've always come back to the S7 so like many of you guys I'm pretty excited for the S8 which is due to be announced in March just after Mobile World Congress but like all big phone launches there's been a ton of leaks tips and rumors come out so here's what we know so far about the upcoming Galaxy S8 so there's been lots of reports that the S8 like the upcoming LG G6 will offer a bigger taller screen with an 18 by9 or 2x1 aspect ratio so we'll probably see a 2960 x440 resolution once again using Samsung's fantastic Super AMOLED panels it also looks like for the first time Samsung's going to drop the home and touch buttons in favor of trimming these bezels 2017 looks like it's going to be the year of super high screen to body ratios and some sources suggest the new S8 and S8 plus phones could support massive 5.8 and 6.2 in curved screens now I'm not 100% convinced about these sizes it seems way too big for most people but then again if a lot of that extra screen is accounted for by being taller rather than wider due to the aspect ratio it might be okay but either way we're looking at much bigger screens for the S8 and S8 plus both of which are expected to be curved like the S7 Edge personally I actually prefer the flat S7 rather than the edge CU I would find that my palm would hit the edge of the screen and it would be a bit annoying so hopefully Sam will make the new s curved screens a bit more comfortable to use but if they're trimming the bezels where's the fingerprint reader going to go well there's leaked photos suggesting ill move to the back like a lot of other Android phones which I'm actually pretty happy to see I think it's a much better location and your index finger just naturally rests there anyway now these renders of the S8 show a brand new side button on the left side of the phone which could be used to activate Samsung's new Bixby virtual assistant think of it as Samsung's own version of the Google assistant or Apple Siri now again I'm not entirely convinced how useful another assistant is going to be I always remember turning off the old SVO assistant because I never used it but I'm am looking forward to seeing what Samsung's going to come up with in terms of performance well it's going to be fast isn't it we're looking at the latest Snapdragon 835 chip in most regions including the US with a new xnos 8895 coming to the UK Europe and some other parts of the world the Snapdragon 835 uses 40% less battery than its predecessor and if you combine that with a slightly bigger battery which is expected if the whole phone itself is getting bigger we should be looking at getting a good few more hours out of these phones as for Ram well there's really no reason to go beyond the current 4 gigs but there's a chance they could up it to 6 gigs I suppose like uh OnePlus did with a 3T but what we probably will see a bump in is storage at the moment the only option you have for internal storage on the S7 is 32 gigs and we're expecting this to be bumped up to 64 GB on the S8 of course one of the best parts of the S7 is the camera and while in my experience the Google pixel has actually overtaken it as the number one smartphone camera the S8 will definitely be fighting for that top spot now it's not expected that Samsung will change an awful lot sticking with a 12 megapixel and a wide f1.7 aperture with no fancy dual camera setup making its way onto it like the LG G5 and upcoming G6 but we can expect improved Optical image stabilization an update to their great dual pixel Focus system and possibly even a few neat tricks like object recognition which has been widely rumored so all together we're looking at a fresh redesign with bezels and a rear fingerprint reader bigger screens with no flat option better battery life a bump in performance slightly new camera and an interesting new virtual assistant in the form of Bixby but the bad news is prices are also expected to go up by around £100 or $100 from the S7 which was already bloody expensive so I reckon the S8 will start at about £650 or about $750 with the bigger S8 plus adding an extra 100 to that so when can you get your hands on a shiny new Samsung Galaxy S8 well the s 7 was announced on the 21st of February 2016 and launched on March 11th but this year Samsung's expected to push that back a few weeks so we're thinking a bit of a teaser trailer perhaps at mwc in Barcelona at the end of Feb uh and then we're looking at probably a very late March to Mid April release date so that's the S8 let me know what you make of it and all the
