LaunchBox Powered Bartop Arcade Cabinet

**A Review of the NeoGeo Cabinet Kit from Game Room Solutions**

I recently received a NeoGeo cabinet kit from Game Room Solutions, and I'm excited to share my experience with it. The only gripe I have with this cabinet is that it has hot spots on the buttons, which can be frustrating for gamers. However, I've taken steps to address this issue by replacing the blue buttons with new ones that won't have these hot spots.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this cabinet kit, and I'm glad I took the time to learn more about it. The kit comes with everything you need to build your NeoGeo cabinet, including cam locks, a monitor mount, and a PC or Raspberry Pi setup. I chose to use a custom vinyl design for my cabinet, which adds a personal touch to the overall look of the unit. The vinyl is not a one-off, but rather a unique design that I love, and it helps to complete the NeoGeo aesthetic.

One of the things that impressed me about this kit was how easy it was to assemble. The instructions were clear, and the parts fit together seamlessly. I also appreciated the attention to detail in the packaging, which included everything I needed to get started. The only thing I would recommend is that Game Room Solutions includes more zip ties for wire management.

**Setting Up the Cabinet**

To set up my NeoGeo cabinet, I first connected my monitor and speakers. I chose a 22-inch IPS display with 1080p resolution, which provides excellent picture quality. For the speakers, I used two Sony 3.5-inch speakers with a 35-watt Bluetooth amp. The sound quality is surprisingly good, especially considering the compact design of the cabinet.

I also connected my PC or Raspberry Pi setup to the monitor, and I chose to use Launch Box as my emulator. This is a fantastic piece of software that makes it easy to play games on your NeoGeo cabinet. The latest update, version 8.3, has brought many improvements to the platform, including support for more emulators.

**Upgrading to Launch Box**

One of the things that really impressed me about this kit was the upgrade path. I originally installed a Raspberry Pi in my cabinet, but I decided to upgrade to Launch Box on a Windows 10 PC. The Intel Skull Canyon Nook is a tiny, powerful PC that provides excellent performance for emulators. I paid $275 for it on eBay, which is a great value considering the specs.

I also connected my Bluetooth controllers to the cabinet, which allows me to play games without having to touch the monitor. This feature is incredibly convenient and adds to the overall gaming experience.

**The Final Product**

After setting up all of the components, I was blown away by how beautiful the cabinet looks. The blue and white vinyl design really completes the NeoGeo aesthetic, and it's clear that Game Room Solutions put a lot of thought into designing this kit. The LED strips in the top Marquis add a nice touch to the overall design.

I do need to move the monitor down about a half inch to get everything working properly, but that's no big deal. Overall, I'm extremely happy with my NeoGeo cabinet kit from Game Room Solutions. It's easy to assemble, provides excellent performance, and looks amazing in my home theater room.

**Conclusion**

If you're interested in building your own NeoGeo cabinet, I highly recommend the kit from Game Room Solutions. The attention to detail, quality of components, and ease of assembly make it an excellent choice for anyone looking to build a high-quality gaming cabinet. Launch Box is also a fantastic piece of software that makes it easy to play games on your NeoGeo cabinet.
