Unrooting Your Nexus 5: A Step-by-Step Guide
Before you begin, it's essential to have a Windows computer, as this program only works for Windows. Additionally, you should have already completed our how-to root the Nexus 5 Wug Fresh Toolkit method. If you haven't followed the previous tutorial, click on the link provided in the video description to access the instructions and continue from Section One and Section Two.
To start, download the Nexus Root Toolkit if you don't already have it installed. Once downloaded, follow the on-screen instructions to install all of its drivers. Next, plug in your device via USB and turn on USB debugging. This is a crucial step to ensure that the process can proceed smoothly. If prompted, say "always allow" and hit OK.
Now, open the Nexus Root Toolkit by double-clicking on the icon. You'll then need to plug in your device again via USB and make sure Developer Options are enabled on your device, as well as USB debugging. This may prompt a pop-up window; simply say "always allow" and hit OK.
On your computer, click on the "Flash Stock and Unroot" option. Make sure that your device is turned on normally before proceeding. Click "OK" to confirm, and wait for the factory image to download. Once downloaded, the tool will begin flashing your device's operating system, and it will reboot into Boot Loader mode.
As you continue through the process, keep in mind that this may take some time. The device will eventually reboot once the process is complete. You'll receive a notification saying that the process is done; simply press any key to exit out of the window and wait for your device to fully reboot.
Once your device has fully rebooted and stopped rebooting itself, proceed through the setup process as you normally would. Re-enable USB debugging by pulling down the notification, tapping "Settings," going to "About Phone," scrolling all the way down to the build number, keeping tapping until it says "Your Developer," going back to "Developer Options" to turn on USB debugging. Click OK if prompted again, and then hit "Always Allow" and OK.
On your computer, click on the "OEM Lock" option and wait for it to complete its task. Once done, you can unplug your device and confirm that you're fully back to stock. Congratulations! You've successfully unrooted your Nexus 5 using the Wug Fresh Toolkit method.
