The Moto X Play: A Mid-Range Marvel
The combination of its quad-core processor, two gigs of RAM, and Android Lollipop UI makes the Moto X Play impressively fast and responsive. According to Antutu benchmark results, it scores over 35,000, which is a notable achievement for a mid-range phone. While it may not compete with top-end phones in terms of raw processing power, it's clear that the Moto X Play is designed to deliver a great user experience.
The real star of the show is the phone's performance, particularly when it comes to running games and apps. The Moto X Play handles demanding tasks with ease, although there may be some slowdowns in certain situations. However, this is a minor quibble when considering that the phone is so impressive for its price and size. With almost no bloatware and a very stock Android UI, the Moto X Play is a joy to use.
Motorola has also added some unique features to the phone, such as the Moto Migrated app, which helps you get started with your new device. This app offers a range of voice and notification settings, as well as motion gestures like a double twist at C, which opens the camera app. However, one feature that's noticeably absent from the Moto X Play is the karate-chop motion used to turn on the flashlight in other Motorola phones.
Despite this omission, the Moto X Play boasts an impressive 21-megapixel F/2.0 rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. The phone delivers excellent camera performance for its price, although it may not quite match the quality of top-end flagships like the Galaxy S6 or LG G4. However, in well-lit environments, the Moto X Play produces nice-looking and detailed shots that are sure to please.
In low-light conditions, however, the camera can struggle to produce consistent results. There's also an issue with focusing when taking close-up shots, although the phone still manages to deliver solid performance otherwise. The front camera is also capable, but it suffers from similar issues with low light quality as the rear camera.
The Moto X Play also has impressive video recording capabilities, with a dynamic range that quickly adjusts to changing lighting conditions. However, footage can sometimes appear slightly blurry, and the 540p slow-motion mode isn't particularly noteworthy. Overall, the phone's battery performance is where it really shines, delivering fantastic results even on heavy usage.
In Conclusion
Overall, the Moto X Play is an impressive mid-range smartphone that punches above its weight class. With its fast performance, solid camera, and fantastic battery life, it's a great option for those looking for a high-quality device without breaking the bank. The phone's price of around £250 makes it an attractive alternative to more expensive options like the OnePlus 2.
While Motorola is rumored to be releasing new Nexus devices, the Moto X Play remains one of the best smartphones available in its class. If you're considering purchasing a mid-range phone, the Moto X Play is definitely worth checking out. With its great price and competitive specs, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for a reliable and feature-packed device.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi guys my name is Tom and I'm a Tex chap and welcome to my review of the Moto X play as the mid-range model in motorless 2015 lineup between the budget moto G and the more expensive upcoming Moto X style this 5.5 inch Moto X play has a lot to offer normally I begin reviews by talking about the design and the display however today I'm gonna start by discussing the battery life of the Moto X play with a massive 3630 milliamp hour battery the Moto X play will last you two full days as with any phone if you're playing intensive games and maximum brightness all the time it won't last nearly that long but with my typical usage of checking social media web browsing and playing some music through Spotify with Auto browse enabled it did last me almost 50% longer than my Samsung Galaxy s6 which is my normal phone it took an impressive 10 hours and 10 minutes to run down on the Geekbench battery benchmark which is nearly 5 hours longer than the iPhone 6 plus Galaxy s6 and the LG g4 but that's not all the Moto X play also features Motorola's turbo charging technology which they boast is the fastest charging technology on any phone on the market at the moment for my experience actually yeah it pretty much is is charged from 0 to 35% in just 15 minutes which beat the Galaxy s6 which also has fast charging which only gained 28 percent in the same period of time so it's incredible battery performance and fast charging is a huge selling point for the Moto X play and despite featuring a 5.5 inch 1080p display it managed manages to outlast flagships that cost it nearly twice as much speaking of the display with a 1080p resolution the 5.5 inch display has a pixel density of 401 pixels per inch there doesn't quite match the top-end phones like the galaxy s6 which has a whopping 577 PPI but if you consider the Moto X play has the same screen size and resolution as iPhone 6 plus and therefore has the same density which costs in the region of three times as much the Moto X play does have a pretty impressive display it's also fairly bright making it nice and easy to use outdoors in bright light conditions and although the viewing angles aren't quite as impressive the whites are reasonably accurate and the colors are quite nice overall if not a little bit dull perhaps did a little bit washed out it's not the brightest or punches almost vibrant display on the market it won't blow you away but it's pretty good and Gorilla Glass 3 protects the display but due to the lack of any sort of Audio phobic coating it is a magnet for finger prints you really do get your fingerprints all over it with a very similar design to the Moto G and textile the multiplex play doesn't really stand out I was a particularly beautiful device but it looks reasonably smart it's looks simple I think it looks quite practical almost perhaps utilitarian the plastic trim and metal looking but still plastic edge are very similar to the Moto G a ten point nine millimeters thick and weighing 169 grams it feels quite dense in the hand but it is comfortable to hold thanks to the rounded corners and the back tapering in to about five mils on the edge so it's surprisingly compact for a 5.5 inch foam it does feel significantly smaller than the iPhone 6 plus and even the LG g4 both of which have 5.5 inch displays this is in part thanks to the grippy rubber texture on the back cover which prevents it slipping out of your hand it also has an above-average 74.4% screen to body ratio which means it's relatively compact for the screen and the screen size on the size of the devices at home with a non removable battery and the nano sim and micro SD card slots access from the top of the phone there's really no functional reason for actually being able to take off the back cover which is removable although you can buy different covers and if you buy the phone online through Motorola's Moto maker website you can also customize the look of it so it is more just a visual aesthetic look there's no functional reason behind actually we got to take the back off in addition there's a 3 and a half Milian the top micro USB 2.0 port on the bottom with the fast charging technology we spoke about it has a volume rocker and a textured power button on the right hand side with nothing on the left it's completely flush on the left on the front are what appear to be dual speakers but actually the top one only acts as a cool speaker as a court as a peaceful way making course only the lower speaker on the bottom bezel is actually for sound in terms of quality it's not the best it's quite bit loud but and I do like the fact that motorola have placed on the front as most competitors do still relegate it to the back on the phone and although if you can cover it quite easily if you're holding the phone in landscape mode your thumbs are sort of secure if you're playing games it's still quite good it gets quite loud as I say but it does lack a bit of punch your likes warmth is a bit tinny similarly call quality is sort of reasonable nothing to write home about pretty average all through inside the Moto X plate is a Snapdragon
