Evo 5 FINALLY Hits the Road!

A Detailed Review of My Latest Acquisition: The Evo 5 with Cau Shifter

As I sat behind the wheel of my latest acquisition, the Evo 5, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. With its impressive specs and track-ready capabilities, I knew this car was going to be a blast to drive. But as I started driving around, I noticed that there were some quirks and issues that needed to be addressed.

One of the first things I noticed was the need for more curves in the road. As I hit the highway, the bumps and potholes were jarring my confidence and making me feel like I was on a rollercoaster ride. I knew that with its high-performance suspension, this car was capable of handling anything the road threw at it, but I needed to find a way to make it more comfortable. So, I started searching for back roads with tighter curves, determined to tame the beast and get the best out of my new ride.

Another issue I encountered was the sound system. As a self-proclaimed audiophile, I was blown away by the exhaust system on this car. It sounded like music to my ears, but what really caught my attention was how quiet it was compared to other cars in its class. In fact, it was so quiet that it almost felt like a sleeper - like it didn't have any real presence or character.

Of course, with great power comes great responsibility, and one of the biggest concerns I had when driving this car was the suspension. As I floored it on the highway, I noticed some body roll, but to my surprise, it wasn't as bad as I expected. In fact, it almost felt like the car was dancing - like it was alive and responding to every input I made.

One thing that did catch my attention was the active yaw control system, which I hadn't seen before on this particular model. I didn't notice its absence earlier, but now that I'm more aware of it, I can see how much it would make a difference in terms of handling and stability. And speaking of handling, I have to say that this car is capable of some truly exceptional driving.

As I took the car out for a spin, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and joy. The acceleration was incredible, the handling was razor-sharp, and the sound system... well, let's just say it's like music to my ears. But what really set this car apart from its competitors was its ability to put me at ease. Whether I was cruising down the highway or carving through the back roads, this car made me feel confident and in control.

Now, I know some of you may be thinking that with great power comes great responsibility, and that's especially true when it comes to a high-performance car like this one. But trust me, folks, this is a car that's worth the hype. It's not just about raw power or acceleration; it's about the experience - the feeling of driving something truly special.

Of course, no review would be complete without mentioning some of the quirks and issues I encountered during my testing phase. One thing that did surprise me was how low the car sat on the ground, especially when I hit bumps or potholes. It seemed like one of the bars was hitting against the exhaust system, which made it vibrate a bit. I'm not sure what's causing this issue, but I'll be keeping an eye out for it.

Another issue that popped up during testing was some strange creaking noises from the brakes. Now, these noises aren't necessarily bad news - they're more like a reminder to take care of your car and make sure everything is in working order. But still, I didn't want them to be there in the first place!

After spending a day with this car, I have to say that I'm thoroughly impressed. From its impressive specs to its exceptional handling and sound system, this is truly a special machine. And as I left it parked for the night, I couldn't help but feel grateful to have had the chance to drive it.

So, will I be taking this car to Lime Rock next week? Absolutely! In fact, I think I'll make it a point to take it out for some track time and see just how well it performs. And as for the Evo 5 itself, I'm still trying to decide whether to keep it or sell it. One thing's for sure - this car has won me over, and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enone of my favorite sounds any time it just right with like very light front a little higher me up sing just backfires like crazy with sounds tight no more driving school so the intention was to catch up on sleep since I've been getting up at like 6 a.m. and still going to bed dumb late every single morning for three days straight uh but being up early enough who's gonna let us get a lot done today so I'm excited got the Starbucks all hooked up we're heading to the shop now so I can hopefully finish the Evo I don't know necessarily if I have what it takes to get it done it might not I mean like parts and supplies but I'm gonna do my best and get whatever I can Tommy's actually out of town so we've got the whole shop to herself and we're gonna diagnose that issue if you guys remember that we had with the Evo after all the new subframe stuff so while I was gone I don't know if you guys saw in Tommy's video he actually did find the issue yeah see that axle it broke so you guys might think it's because I extended those lower control arms believe it or not it's not that what actually happened I don't know how this happened there's a certain side that's longer inside that shorten the Evo and I told Alberta which it is but for whatever reason it wasn't working how it should work so he put them in backwards thinking that maybe whatever I was telling him was wrong and the long axle basically blew out from being compressed too much short acts was fine because it's just extended a little bit but essentially what I need to do is put this axle on the other side and then the long axle needs to go on this side but the trick is now I don't have a spare axles to their evil four axles that have to get from Japan so I'm gonna do my best at taking this axle if I can which is the bad one and using parts from my old axles and see if I can make one good axle so I don't know anything about rebuilding axles but I think I can figure it out I remember if I could show you guys but there was an issue because of the caster being a little bit off it destroyed this tire so I'm gonna steal some tires off my old T's and put them on these since there's literally the same tire in the same tread life this one must have got a nail in it too at some point so I'm gonna go run these over to auto Technic the legit shop kind of right down the road from Tommy shop but I can actually trust my next wheels with so I'm gonna bring my wheels over there to have the tire swap bowl and finishing up the car so as much as I'd like to stuff four wheels in the Porsche for the memes I thought it'd be smarter to steal Tommy's good ol van they get all candy van so Tommy gets all the children you can take this we get the tires changed I don't really understand what's going on so I took some measurements to figure out what's going on the axles and usually the treble side is a short side screw everything that I said before I checked took some measurements the axles we're in the right place I don't know why online it says that the right side gets a short axle but that makes no sense because I took measurements and the short axle has to go on this side it wouldn't work on the other side which technically I would think would be called the left because it would be left-hand drive if that was left I don't know maybe I was just reading it backwards or whatever regardless I put the old axle in and it was 100% overextended which is weird because before I would have binding issues from the axle being too short so I don't think it was from the extra 15 mill I think maybe it was a combination of that and the excessive caster that was making the wheel rub here so what I did I had my old axle does a little bit longer so I put it in there took some measurements and it seems like it has a proper play and then I'm gonna leave this axle over here which might be a little bit too compressed which again doesn't make much sense but I'm gonna let it ride and see what happens I start to pull the car out to check to see how everything is just so I can align the wheel right I just wanted to drive it in a straight line real quick and sure enough that's all fuel so it's sprung a leak on one of the rubber hoses even though it's ud5 safe using the worm clamps like iran it's a big no-no and it deteriorated through the line so I'm gonna go pick up some proper like fuel hose clamps don't know who's responsible for that but definitely wasn't me because I know better took me a little while being super picky about trying to get the tow perfect on this thing interestingly enough on these cars they don't run as much Toya as a rear-wheel drive car where I'd normally run like probably an eighth toe out on the track setup where this is closer to like sixteenth toe out so I got a pretty good steering wheel straight and I'm gonna add one more piece to make it even more rigid before I go and take the car out so ultra racing actually makes a strut brace for the CP 9a which is the chassis code of this Evo so I'm gonna pop this on real quick stiffen up the front a little bit it's super light so it's not gonna really add much weight but yeah it kind of kills me in there it's gonna be hard to tell the exact difference that it makes since I just did so much other suspension stuff but definitely won't hurt I would say guys that this is the moment you've all been eagerly waiting for but I don't think any of you were waiting as eagerly as I have been to test out the car with all the new suspension stuff so there's a couple things to bear in mind though one there's no one else here around Tommy's not around and I don't want to get stranded if anything's broken or anything's loose I don't know the roads around here and it's a heavily trafficked time so the purpose of this drive is to find some roads and just feel loosely how the car feels and responds not push it at its limit maybe we'll do a little bit more that tomorrow ones Tommy's here and he can like show me some good roads that are safe and I've plenty of room and the availability I'm having a trailer around in case something goes wrong but I can't tell you this car hauls either I didn't remember how fast it was or the weight I mean a hundred pounds less I don't think I would notice that much this thing that makes more torque than the G do there 50 or sorry then the gt3 RS ah maybe not more I think this thing makes like 350 to 375 pounds of torque GG dude GG 3 makes about the same but the main difference is this car weighs 2800 for the gt3 RS weighs 3,100 so there's a little light rocketship I am very happy with the little amount of road noise I know that is one thing that I was a little concerned about going over and up bunch of wipers going over to everything hime I was very concerned that the car would just make a ton of noise would be annoying there's a lot of times you like solid subframe bushings on like s jassi's or when you go over to Himes in some cars you get a lot of the clunks and noise and knocks that can be really annoying in a street car so hopefully have this mic low enough to where you guys won't get wind noise but I might want to move it down a little bit I don't know I haven't felt any axial binding yet but I know I do need to kind of be on throttle while pushing through corners to feel that and usually I think that's a symptom of axial being too long not too short which is why I blew up the other axle so I think we're okay but we'll see people probably think I'm so crazy talking to myself it sounds pretty good for not having in an exhaust I gotta say speed bump let's see how she takes her speed bumps you can tell that I'm not from the area because I definitely did not take a proper Road yeah the race fab kit feels great over speed bumps rock solid guys there's one thing you need to know I don't put on an act for the camera I am so unbelievably excited to drive this car I've been dying to drive this car even though I've been driving the RS around this car does so much more for me like this makes me tickle in all the right places all right please be a windy road little weird I mean I got used to driving the RS so this thing felt a little dance here on the corner almost a little light in the front I'm gonna guess that's a no wheel drive thing too and I was going up hill that was kind of like threw me off felt rock solid though it was very planted I wonder doesn't feel soft yeah there's a little bit more body roll than I think I'd like doesn't have to do with the arms or anything though that would just exaggerate because now I don't have the play I would say because now we don't have the bushing deflection that I would feel the the role of the suspension more I guess that kind of makes sense I don't know maybe I want to go to some stiffer spring rates or stiffer bar here's some bumps so we can see how it feels over bumps I picked the worst roads did not so cool I gotta remember you drive all wheel drive cars much different than a rear engine 911 go here's a little corner break point and the way that this thing pulls out of corners I gotta say it excites me more than RS it's just sound about that all-wheel drive baby I don't know and turbos god I love this car I feel like if this isn't a like I'm not gonna be able to find proper oats to feel the suspension but the good news is I haven't noticed any axle issues the car feels solid it doesn't make any sort of knocking noise it doesn't feel obnoxiously bumpy turns in nicely I feel like my ghetto alignment turned out pretty decent I think I get more thumbs ups driving this car than I do in the gt3 I love it I need a weapon quick Yui I don't know if that's gonna happen with this happy turning radius problems of an Evo driver with RS it's got such a good tarnish it is like a what bu in the middle of any road this car I need like a football field in order to pull u-turn I'm not running anywhere we'll get back and we'll do a quick inspection on everything tire wise I'm still on the MTO fives I want to go down to an nto one have a little bit more attraction but I think if I do they like it not in a straight line but like lateral I think if I do that though I'm gonna notice the body roll a little bit more so I don't know I got evil guys I can talk to but underneath that feels solid is there's a little more body roll and I think I'd like right now I'm gonna give her a good old second a third pull hit limiter because makes all the cool noises thanks good it's a good car really easy to heel-toe those Mustangs were not easy to heel-toe it's definitely a challenge what's good - is because I'm going over all these bumpy roads and stuff it'll give me a good chance to jostle anything loose but I can that way when I put it back on the lift later today I can go over into a bowl check since I've everything new underneath there's a good chance that a bolt was forgotten or not tightened enough and it's always a good idea to check as things flex and break in they can't get loose one of the disadvantages to going over to fully adjustable suspension as opposed to stock it's more likely to loosen so as most of my other cars will be wanting to kind of check over this car more often than we did in the past I don't have to but it's a good idea to and you got to miss how quiet this car was it sounds good with this exhaust but it was so quiet before that it was definitely a sleeper now I feel like it might attract a little more attention this is sounds good though a little bit of body roll but it kind of it's kind of cool cos it it almost feels like it like kind of dances and then goes oh I don't have the active yaw control anymore but I haven't noticed it I didn't notice it before really maybe I did I don't know this is the worst suspension review on the history of suspension reviews we got to take this thing a Lime Rock let me know do you want to see me should I take this car to Lime Rock next week I think there's a track day Tuesday I could probably do that I don't think I wanted to take the gt3rs but I think it's too loud and I'd only get trouble so hell's bumps I need more curves must find more curves I'm gonna give you guys my quickest 1 2 3 that we can on a limiter in 1st and 2nd make all the cool noises traffic but it sounds so cool fun fact I got a CIE shifter for this car like one of the sick ones that they use on all the track cars and rally cars where it's up here it's like dink dink dink dink but I grew to love the the stock shifter because it has the 90s feel the low long throw and I didn't want to have to like cut up my interior trim so if you have an Evo 5 in the US and you want to buy a cau shifter hit you boy up because I got you that'll probably work with other Evo's too but I don't know but I kinda want to just keep on driving Eva so I don't I don't think I'm ever gonna go back it looks like it's snowing there's a listen we were like falling stuff in the air full-throttle first around the corner that was fun I mean I've been ripping around and all the Connecticut back roads with the gt3 RS and I don't keep on saying that it's like a flex just as a pure juxtaposition that I'm comparing a 90s car to one of the best drivers cars that's made right now and expecting you to drive the same and I think if I was comparing this to anything of its era I would be blown away at how Brad this thing is right now so I got to get out of that mindset but I'm having a lot of fun so the Evo survived its first real test drive I will say I don't know what it is but there is something that's too low on the car underneath I don't know if it's one of the supports or if it's exhaust but I noticed sometimes if I hit a bump or something or even in the parking lot once yeah it looks like it might be that one of those bars might be hitting and I don't know if there's a way to avoid that other than raising the car oh I do have it spaced down a little bit lower right now because of the exhaust issue where it was hitting the exhaust so if I can fix the exhaust situation that'll let me raise the bar a little bit higher so huh that is really low though kind of cool but kind of also bad so that's one thing that I have to keep an eye on also something I could probably Google but I rather just act stupid and then have you guys tell me what it is I thought maybe because this cars been sitting all winter when I went to go drive it again that brake started like making weird creaky noises when I stepped on and put a lot of pressure I figured they just kind of got a little rust or something in them so I took them apart and like greased the sliders but still does it quite loud enough you can hear doesn't sound the best so I'll be keeping line in the comments you guys can tell me how to fix my car they work fine but it's kind of a sketchy sound so I'm gonna put this thing on the left maybe do a little bit more work then I'm gonna chill for the rest of the night cuz I had a very successful day we didn't even break down I thought we're gonna have to go take it over to go get the trailer and\n"
