iOS 14 - Supported Devices, Refinement and Features

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi everyone Aaron here for Zollo Tech andevery year Apple releases a new versionof iOS and releases a bunch of betas andthen releases the final product inSeptember now we start to see rumorsabout it and about what devices aresupported and things like that early inthe year and usually a lot of thosethings are truesince developers are working on themthere's early versions of them thingslike that and we'll see the firstversion of it in June at the WorldwideDeveloper Conference or what's known asWWDC this is usually in the first orsecond week of June and then theyrelease the beta the same day they showit off so we'll have beta one then but Iwanted to talk about what this year'sversion of iOS will be all about andI've talked about what I'd like to CNNbut this year will be all aboutrefinement and then I'm also going totalk about what devices will besupported since we have some moreinformation about that now the firstthing is every other year it's sort of atick-tock cycle as many people call itthere will be a feature release and thena refinement release this year is arefinement release so for example twoyears ago iOS 12 came out and what wehad would that was minor features butmajor refinement so for example theythey tweaked the performance they gave ascreen time they gave us groupednotifications with iOS 12 they gave usemoji group FaceTime the measure appthere were some small tweaks to photosthere were some serious they releasedthe shortcuts app but they didn'tintegrate it until iOS 13 there was asmall apple news update a stock'sredesign a bedtime feature for Do NotDisturb a small Maps update but that wasto the background of maps in general andthen there was also some air qualityindex added to the weather app so all ofthese things were small updates for themost part and then with iOS 13 theybrought in a bunch of features but witha bunch of bugs so just a quick recapthey improve performance by 2xsupposedly they also introduced darkmode so we have dark mode if you want tomake your menus dark I actually havego from day to night so it changes basedon daytime and nighttime there's also amajor photos redesign and a huge updateto accessibility for those with theability or inability to actually controltheir phone easily with touch so you canuse voice control they brought applessign in they brought find my to replacefind my friends and find my iPhone theyupdated maps in a major way they alsobrought the quick path keyboard which isbasically like swipe they redesignedreminders they redesigned carplay theybrought apple arcade they also updated abunch of languages for India and otherplaces around the world updated filesfonts Health Safari notes mail and onand on and onso with all of those changes comes a lotof bugs because software in general isjust hard and even though you might havehundreds or thousands or hundreds ofthousands of people working on somethingit's still difficult to nail down all ofthose bugs so with iOS 14 Apple willbring the refinement that many of ushave wanted with iOS 13 along with I'msure we'll see new features but not aton of them but there is some great newsfor those of you apparently if this istrue there's some great news for thoseof you with iPhone se 6s and 6s plus sothe great news is it appears iOS 14 willbe supporting iPhone se it will also besupporting iPhone 6s and 6s plus if thesource is accurate so that meanseverything that currently supports iOS13 on iPhone will be supported howeveron ipad that doesn't seem to be true itseems like Apple is getting rid ofsupport for devices with the 8 8 and 8 8X processors so what that means is thisiPad air 2 will no longer be supportednor will the iPad Mini 4 so those arethe current rumors or currentinformation on what devices willactually be supported but there willalso be some refinements meaning updatesto things that are causing drain onbattery life updates to things such asproblems throughout the OS witheverything from Wi-Fi to Bluetooth toLTE connectivity and hopefully with thenext generation iPhone 12s we'll seethe Qualcomm modems come back so wewon't have the issues with LTE andcellular connectivity that we do todaynow there are some things that a lot ofpeople think maybe an iOS 14 we'rehearing some information about it andthere's quite a few desires that peoplewant as well and probably the number onething that I hear has to do with phonecalls taking up the entire display sowhen you receive a phone call itcompletely covers up the display many ofyou are familiar with this let me justshow you quickly now when you receive aphone call from another phone just likeI am here you can accept it or declineit but it's taking up the whole screenif I double click the power button I cango home and use the phone again but it'sreally a pain and it's something that isreally annoying for a lot of people onAndroid it's handled a lot differentlyand I would really like to see thatrefinement so for example let me showyou that so on my pixel phone here I'mcalling myself you'll see it says AaronZolo incoming call and it just pops upon the top I can keep using my phonewhile that's coming in so it's one ofthose things that's strange that theyhaven't updated let me and that callit's strange that they haven't updatedthat on iPhone it seems like a simpleenough a solution that they could do butit's not here and hopefully we'll see itwith iOS 14 also I would expectperformance update so more seria updatespossibly new icons but I would notexpect a major redesign with iOS 14maybe they'll tweak some of the iconsmaybe music or something like that andof course we'll have a new wallpaperevery year we have some new wallpapernothing major but we do have them andwe'll have dynamic or Stills or whateverthey decide to do here we'll just havenew wallpaper in general just like we doevery year and maybe we'll be able toplace the icons anywhere we want but Iwould not expect any major changes nothey could surprise us this year butit's hard to say exactly what they'regoing to do but the only currentinformation we have about it is thatit's going to be more refined applestweaked their process to make sure thatsoftware is more ready for the publicand betas are intrinsically buggy anywayand that's what a beta is all about isreporting feedback and things like thatbut iOS 14 should refine everything justlike iOS 12 did just like iOSit's just the way Apple seems to dothings but let me know your thoughtsabout it in the comments below do youhave an iPhone se or 6s in what do youthink about support I'm really excitedApple seems to be supporting older olderdevices even longer so that's great newsso that means everything from 6s to theiPhone 7 the iPhone 8 the iPhone XR, Xall everything from then on getssupported so that's great let me knowyour thoughts in the comments below I'lllink this wallpaper in the descriptionas I always do if you haven't subscribedalready please subscribe and if
