Taking the M5 Touring for a Spin

We're currently at the track with our friend's beautifully maintained M5 Touring, and we're excited to take it for a spin. The engine is warm, and the exhaust system is closed, giving us a very nice sound that's both civilized and yet still packs a punch. As soon as we open the valves, the car comes alive with an insane sound that's sure to turn heads.

As we put the gearbox in Drive mode and engage M mode, the car begins to shift gears smoothly and effortlessly. We disengage traction control and adjust the ferocity setting of the gearbox, which is essentially a secret setting that allows us to customize the shifting experience. With the ferocity setting turned up to its maximum level, the car becomes even more responsive and engaging to drive.

One of the standout features of this exhaust system is its ability to change tone across different rev ranges. Unlike modern turbocharged engines, which often produce a relatively monotonous sound, this M5 Touring's exhaust system produces a wide range of tones that add depth and character to the engine's output. We can hear the characteristic crackles and pops that occur when the exhaust gets hot, adding to the overall sensory experience.

As we take the car for a drive, we're immediately struck by its smoothness and refinement. The suspension is comfortable enough to make it suitable for long-distance driving, and the 250 kilometers per hour limiter (which can be raised to 305 kilometers per hour as an option) allows us to push the car hard without worrying about damage. We take a few corners, and the car handles beautifully, with the ferocity setting of the gearbox allowing us to enjoy the full range of its capabilities.

We also get to experience some special features of this M5 Touring. When we shift mid-corner, which is not usually recommended in an M5 E60 with SMG, the car responds eagerly and enthusiastically. However, this is only possible because our friend has installed a secret setting that allows us to indulge in this driving behavior.

One of the most impressive aspects of this car is its rarity. The F10 M5 Touring was produced in relatively small numbers compared to other models, making it a highly sought-after collector's item among M5 enthusiasts. Our friend's beautiful example is a testament to the car's enduring appeal and desirability.

2007 BMW M5 touring it is the e61 generation as I said from 2007 and it is the V10 model of course but the thing that makes this car so rare is the fact that it is a touring they only made just over a thousand of these two rings 1009 while they actually made 19 and a half thousand sedans so about 1 in 20 customers went for the touring and I think that is a shame because I think this thing is so freaking cool uber cool so today I'm going to show you around it I'll show you the spec and then we'll take it for a drive towards the old van for an old man blast now before we begin I just want to thank guys bertson BMW Specialists who have kindly enough allowed us to take out their BMW M5 touring as I said they are super rare so it is really great to see that these guys trust us with their car and as you may know uh heisbetter is actually a partner of ours we work with them they do insulation of the FI exhaust down pipes for the m340i we sell you can actually also buy them at heisbetter they have them in stock now this M5 also happens to have an fi exhaust so it sounds like an absolute Maniac if you want to have that exhaust for your M5 or M6 with the V10 you can buy them in our store or go directly to icebergs for installation and purchase of the exhaust because as good as the stock car is with an exhaust it just comes to life and we also filmed uh the Sky Sports BMW M6 V10 with an fi exhaust but that car also had the exhaust manifold which is also available and that makes it even louder I think this is a better setup if you just want that that high revving F1 sound oh it is incredible one of the best sounding cars we have filmed ever honestly it is outrageous go check out the sound video if you want to listen to some sound from the outside it is outrageous so this spec is Silverstone two metallic a very nice color and it does make the car very classic very friendly it's not you know in your face if you stand in front of it it's not even that clear that it's an M5 it could also be a 535d with an amp package that is what I love about these m5s it is quite an understated car and I think it is quite beautiful I love those headlights with the angel eyes and the daytime running lights at the top there in yellow super nice front bumper relatively simple but you can see that you know they are a bit more aggressive they do take in a little bit more air to feed that V10 and then the wheels of course the classic M5 V10 wheels and around that we've got Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires which actually take this car into you know this decade it or two decades actually um yeah these tires just transform any old car it is amazing what the tire does don't forget that brakes not great standard braking performance it seems like all these performance cars from back in the day you know brakes weren't either weren't that important or they just couldn't make them any better but uh braking performance is not great they start overheating pretty quickly as well but that is something that we see with a lot of these older performance cars beautiful side blade here with an M5 badge now this car has the black roof rails which the owner is going to replace with uh just the painted strips because he doesn't really like that I do think it looks kind of cool it makes it even more utilitarian more like you know like a family car but with a V10 I really really like that idea so you can check out Skye's button on Instagram as well check them out they really are specialized in BMWs and especially in mgars they really know their way around these M cars always nice to have a nice specialist address right so at the rear again it's relatively simple the design you do have a more aggressive and bumper and then as you can see the FI exhaust it is a very beautiful exhaust actually as well I think it fits the car really well two silencers still at the rear and even though it is very loud it's not too loud in my opinion so five liter V10 engine with 507 horsepower 520 newton meters of torque this engine actually was built back in the day using the same Forge as the Formula One engine BMW built at that time so it really was basically a four wheeler one engine even though you know it's a lot of marketing um it actually had something to do with the Formula One engine which makes it really really cool now of course it is linked to a seven-speed SMG gearbox when you are on it with this car driving it hard I have to say the SMG is really nice because the shifts are just so aggressive they they shake the entire car they just sent this jolt through it which is magnificent interior wise of course it does show its age here but again it is relatively simple and that means that it kind of Ages well the seats are very good as well super supportive nice and comfy and adjustability a lot of adjustability actually yeah but they are pretty good seating position is a bit strange but maybe I just have to find my spot so start it up now we do have a remote here this is valves closed I'm not going to rev it too hard because those people are probably having dinner or chillaxing so this is valves closed very nice sound quite civilized and then when you open them yeah that is quite insane so let's take it for a drive we'll put the gearbox in Drive and we will engage M mode gearbox goes into automatic then we disengage traction control and that means that we have an extra setting for the gearbox ferocity which of course we want in the most ferocious setting beautiful word ferocious the man's a poet all right here we go so this is valves closed which I also wanted to show you guys because it is actually a very nice sound it is basically a little louder than stock but a very good sound and I think that is the beauty about fi exhausts they understand that sometimes you're in the mood for crazy loud sounds and and just you know have fun with it enjoy the car have a nice drive you want the sound but sometimes you know when it's at night or early in the morning or you're just not in the mood you want that exhaust to be more quiet so I really like that all right now let's go to Fells open oh did I spot some horses I did so we are going to take it easy actually I'll take the next tunnel to show you guys the sound I will open the windows oh the beautiful thing about this car about this engine and especially about this car with this exhaust is the fact that that zone it changes across the Rev range it just sounds it produces which is something we're not really used to anymore with all those turbocharged engines it's just a relatively monotonous sound that doesn't really develop oh this does man this has to be one of the most epic sounding cars ever right what was that was that a deer you also have these crackles sometimes which don't happen all the time which is also very cool you're just chasing the crackles I think it's when the exhaust gets nice and hot that's when you get those foreign oh my God oh man that is just ridiculous and you could also see that I shifted mid Corner which is something you shouldn't do in an M5 E60 with the SMG because it does really like that it upsets the balance of the car and it's not really nice but that of course is down to the fact that I have that secret extra setting because that is when you have that big hit shifts when you get like above six and a half thousand RPM that is dirty so here we go at the ultimate it is 8 30 in the evening so it should be nice and quiet to do this shift is so crazy but it is a very nice car to do an ultimate run with because its suspension is actually quite comfortable the car feels like it has been set up to do like long distance and Lasting on the Autumn hour now stop the car comes with a 250 kilometers an hour limiter which was available as an option to be raised to to 305 kilometers an hour but this car does not have a limiter so at 320 plus kilometers an hour you can see it's completely empty which is great keep the right people so this is 330 kilometers an hour which is actually 297 kilometers an hour if you can believe that that is 337 on the speedo which would be around 300 how long does an hour relatively dramaless this car is 15 years old it is in exceptional condition it has been maintained by guys burnt as well uh the previous owner maintained it at guys versus so they know that it is in great condition he's waiting over there so I'm going to give him some nice sounds I mean yeah this car is a freaking legend for a reason it is so special the fact that they decided to build this it is a shame that because so few people actually bought it that after that we never had an M5 touring again before that we actually had the E34 M5 Touring that made around 900 of those so even more rare but of course the F10 M5 we didn't have a touring version f11 and now f90 we also didn't have one even though it has four wheel drive a regular automatic gearbox it would be so suitable as a touring foreign I love this car so much it it really is the fact that it is a two-rig and that exhaust it just brings the car to life it looks amazing it sounds amazing it drives really really well thank you
