**The Great 2D Sprites and Game Boy Advance: A Powerhouse Console**
While modern consoles have far surpassed the capabilities of their predecessors, the Game Boy Advance (GBA) is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to sprite-based games. The GBA's ability to run a wide range of beautiful sprites-based games, such as Pokémon Ruby, is truly impressive. Games like Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire also showcase the console's capabilities, with some of the best graphics seen on the device.
**Backwards Compatibility and Game Boy Color**
The GBA library wasn't limited to just Game Boy Advance titles; it also featured full backwards compatibility with previous games, including those from the Game Boy Color. This meant that players could still enjoy their old favorite games without any issues. The ability to play both original Game Boy games and Game Boy Color games made the GBA a great option for retro gamers.
**The Downside: Screen and Battery Issues**
However, there were two major downsides to the original Game Boy Advance. Firstly, the screen was its biggest flaw – it didn't have backlighting, which meant that players couldn't play in complete darkness. This limited where games could be played, with bright lights being the best option for gaming. The lack of backlighting was a significant issue, especially considering that this is now seen as a standard feature on most modern consoles and devices.
**Battery Life: A Major Inconvenience**
The second major downside to the GBA was its battery life. The console required double-A batteries, which could be inconvenient for some players. The battery life wasn't too bad, but it did mean that players would always need to buy new batteries or carry spare ones with them. This added a layer of hassle to gaming, making it less enjoyable.
**The Game Boy Advance SP: A Better Alternative**
While the original GBA had its drawbacks, Nintendo's successor, the Game Boy Advance SP, addressed these issues. The SP had a built-in backlight, which made it possible to play games in complete darkness. It also had rechargeable batteries, making battery life less of an issue. Additionally, the SP had a smaller design and flip-open case, making it easier to carry around.
**Conclusion: A Solid Console Despite Its Drawbacks**
Overall, the Game Boy Advance is a solid console that offers a wide range of great games. While its lack of backlighting and battery life issues can be frustrating, they don't detract from the overall gaming experience. If you're looking for a great retro gaming console with a comfortable design, the GBA is definitely worth considering. However, if you want the latest and greatest in terms of features and performance, the Game Boy Advance SP is the better choice.
**The Game Boy Advance: A Worthwhile Purchase**
If you're interested in getting a Game Boy Advance, but don't mind the battery life issues or playing in bright lights, there's no reason not to get one. The GBA is still a great console with a wide range of amazing games available. With prices now ranging from half the cost of the SP, it's an even more attractive option for retro gamers looking to dip their toes into classic gaming.
**Conclusion: A Recommendation**
So, should you recommend the Game Boy Advance? Absolutely! If you don't mind eating through some batteries and playing in bright lights, the GBA is a great console that offers a wide range of amazing games. While its drawbacks are significant, they don't detract from the overall gaming experience. With its comfortable design and solid gameplay, the GBA is definitely worth considering for retro gamers looking to get into classic gaming.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys so today i'm here with my review of the game boy advance now of course the game boy advance was the third generation game boy and indeed the last generation game boy and it really did bring a lot of new things to the table um it's especially considering when you put it in side by side with a game boy color the differences are really apparent nintendo changed a lot of stuff a lot was really good but some was for the bad okay so let's go ahead and begin with a tour around the console um so starting from the beginning you will see it actually does have that wide display um you know the display while by today's standards isn't that great um back then it was really pretty impressive especially considering you know the game boy color screen etc etc now of course there were a few downsides to this but i will get to that a little bit later um so over here on the right you do have the standard a and b button you have a speaker which was so so over here you do have this standard nintendo d-pad as well as a kind of small start and select button i'm flipping it over on the bottom here you will see an on and off switch you will see the headphones as well as the little thing for the volume uh now along the sides you actually see it had these little grips uh little gray grips um you know it actually was kind of useful as you know when you're holding the gameboy advance they give you a little bit more grip and of course mostly it was just for the looks but uh not too bad either way so we'll go ahead and flip it over here and you will see that actually this way and you will see that it's uh you do have two extra buttons from previous game boy advances um so you do have an l r button both of which are very nice very comfortable you know you're playing it you know it's very very nice to use it also does have a couple of places for accessories and you do have a link cable spot one of the best features of the game boy advance absolutely is the game library you know it's very very rare to see a handheld console even a game boy that has so many excellent excellent games on it and of course the game blue advance was is really considered to be the pinnacle of you know sprite based gameplay you know where instead of having 3d models you know the great 2d sprites and the gameboy advance was an absolute powerhouse now i mean as far as today you know considering you know comparing it against modern consoles it's not that great um however you know it's probably close to the super nintendo i would say um but you know it was and plenty of power to go ahead and run a lot of really really nice looking sprite based games um so what i mean by this or several games i'm going to just pull out one right here um you know pokemon ruby that was a great franchise on the su game boy dance um another one that i don't really think gets enough credit was actually harry potter and the goblet of fire um you know a lot of the movie band games get a lot of flack but actually this one was really quite good and actually some of the best graphics i've ever seen on the game boy dance indeed though the gameboy advanced library was not limited to just game boy dance titles um of course as it is a gameboy it does feature full backwards compatibility with previous games um so for example you want to take a game boy color game indeed a game original gameboy game you go ahead and slot it right in now of course it does stick up a fair bit however no big deal you can go ahead and play them however there were two major downsides of the original game boy advance the first which absolutely has to be that screen and of course before i was talking i do like the screen quite a bit you know it's it's pretty clear the resolution is pretty nice for a you know a console of this era however there was a major major downside and that was the fact that it does not support any sort of backlight now this is something we take for granted today you know every cell phone every game console everything has a backlit screen however this gameboy advance was the last gameboy to not ship with a full lit screen basically if you've never you know played an older game boy basically what this means is that you really can't play in the dark you really need to be in well-lit areas in fact you know outside's about the best place to play your game boy especially the game will advance that was a major major issue really did limit where you could play the game boy dance um the second thing was it takes batteries i'm so go ahead and just flip it over here and in fact you can see mine's a little bit torn up here uh of course the battery doors break on these game boy advances quite a bit um but as you can see here it does take double a batteries and really that's that's you know that was okay for the previous game boys however it really is very it's really really annoying i mean the battery life is not too bad on the gameboy advance but it really did kind of take away from you know how long you play it you always have to buy new double-a batteries um so you know those are the two major issues with the game boy advance however uh you know really nintendo did fix them with its predecessor with its successor rather the gameboy advance sp however i will get into that in a later review um so overall to go ahead and sum up the gameboy advance is a really really great console i mean it's nice comfortable to hold you know if you've ever held a psp it feels like kind of a smaller version of that you know you do have your very very comfortable l r buttons you know you have your a and b button all the kind of stuff that you would expect to see in a game boy is here the game boy advance is very very solid however i really can't recommend to go ahead and if you really want to go and play through a lot of the game boy advanced games i really have to recommend to go ahead and pick up a gameboy advance sp um you know it's pretty does practically everything that the gameboy advance does only that actually does have a smaller design with the flip um you know it has an actual backlit screen rechargeable batteries i mean the game will advance sp is everything the gameboy advance is plus some however if you are interested in getting a game boy advance perhaps you just want to start getting into it because the game boy advances uh generally cost about half as much as the sp variety um you know you really won't be disappointed i mean if you don't mind eating through some batteries just like a standard game boy and you know having to play in a well-lit area you will not be disappointed the gameboy advances these days are really quite cheap and you know there are so many great games that it's really hard not to pass up uh so anyway guys that's it for my review of the original game boy advance really solid console just pretty much overshadowed by the sp so anyway guys thanks for watchinghey guys so today i'm
