what i'm going to be talking about actually i do have kind of an idea of what i'm going to talk about it's going to be about creativity and composition i'm going to kind of riff go a little further with some of the things we've been talking about in recent videos if you've been keeping up but here's the deal so mackenzie hughes who is the mastermind behind this whole operation and runs the fort worth camera store itself he's going to come by in a few minutes he hadn't seen the studio yet i kind of figured well you guys probably haven't seen the studio in a while so we'll do a little tour i want to get him to talk a little bit about photofest because it's way more than just my presentation and it actually is a lot of fun and it is really cool so uh anyway he's supposed to be such good timing i am in back how do i get in you're supposed to say speed speed yeah because in the old days they had turned the audio tape on and and it would have to be up to speed and then they would know i guess it slowly ramped up i don't ladies and gentlemen this is my dear friend do you want to be mckinsey or mac i i'd like to be mackenzie mckenzie this is mackenzie hughes he uh so earlier in this video before you showed up i did a little hey here's what we're doing and i talked about my local camera shop being fort worth camera of which thank you i'm an ambassador it sounds like i wear a cool hat and have a translator but uh but i don't think so anyway so here we are and now i am part of photofest this year with the ted forbes experience which we will define soon um it's gonna be great i i promise you but how many years have we done photo fest now or by we i mean you thanks yeah uh this will be the sixth annual even though the seventh year because we didn't do it in 2020. i mentioned that too last year was was i think for fairly obvious reasons yeah no go but uh so far i was asking before we started rolling the cameras how it was looking and so far so good right fantastic we have over 1400 registrations 40 events over nine days okay so it's a little longer than a week yeah it's in fort worth and there is stuff every day i'm going to put the website link below so people can click on it and see there literally is stuff every day like multiple things i don't know how you do this this freaks me out to even think about but like i need a nap every day that's as far as i go but well yeah that's why actually when we we decided to actually have a hotel sponsor for that very so i could have enough um but our friend dixie dixon is doing an event which is going to be very good dixie dixon will be there and her crew uh world famous i dare say and folks like eric jang and kedran franklin and ted forbes even he's he's all right we're gonna be there yeah he's at 20. thanks yeah do you get outside people coming in do you get out we do 2019 i tell you we had people from portland oregon and northern california and l.a and seattle of course the surrounding texas areas which of course texas is pretty big it's a pretty big draw but anything drivable you would you know certainly austin oh yeah um and i you know i can't think of anything at least in the texas area that is like this they houston has a photo but it's a different it's like a different deal yeah it's a different feeling with all due respect to the houston photo fest that's really kind of a gallery thing which is cool but it's not like what we're doing here this is not like what we're doing here what we're doing here is more of a uh i dare say not to compare it to another event a south by southwest of photography because this is a fully interactive experience everybody with any type of photographic interest can participate and actually play with your camera and get to experience photography on a whole another level and a way to try out new gear and see new places meet people is the biggest thing this is actually a social event that's not online and you can and it's always been that way you can actually meet people with like minds and like skill sets from professionals to entry levels students to senior citizens it's it's for everyone it is everyone fort worth is a groovy place it is i lots of cool stuff going on in fort worth photographically it's a fantastic place the first time that we met oh do you remember this we were we were both asked to talk at as part of a series that the eamon carter museum was doing yes and at a camera it was on not at a bar it was fun no one i wish we should have met at the bar first but we didn't know each other but the uh it was on pieces in their collection and i chose an abaddon and you chose a west and and you were that's when i found out you were transplant from southern cow northern northern cal sorry northern california i messed that up all the time yeah that's worse than it's mistaken us from dallas well you know it's also funny because i i think that's part of why we bonded because we were both not from here but but a small town it's not a small town but it's a small it's a big small town in texas fort worth is a big small town and it's a cool town and one of the best camera stores that uh and come on man don't be humble it really is it's easily in the metroplex maybe in the state i'm not going to argue with you don't argue with me now it's a good one and it's uh i signed on as an ambassador i have met people through that you are very you talked about this in our museum talk because i spoke first embarrassed myself thoroughly and then mackenzie came on and like kept it smooth but like when you came in you were talking about running a camera store in today's age when you're competing with amazon and the big boxes and and community is a big part of what you do and you you sense that when you go into fort worth camera you have to cultivate a community yeah in order to survive and compete with online places be they b h or adorama or whatever and there's no disrespect intended to any of those online places at all because they serve a purpose however we do things differently and it's all about making sure that we can create a customer base that loves us and that's um there's a lot of metaphors to be learned about just small business these days running a camera store in the fort worth photo fest it's all about community it's all about bringing people together this is another video that we
