**A Day with the Vinfast VF8: A Mixed Bag**
We embarked on a journey to experience the Vinfast VF8, an electric vehicle that has garnered attention for its sleek design and impressive features. As we admired the latest electric vehicle models, including the Model 3, we couldn't help but notice the lack of headroom in the Tesla, which seemed to be a recurring complaint among owners.
The conversation soon shifted to the VF8, and we were eager to put our preconceptions about this Vietnamese-made car to the test. As we made our way to the Vinfast dealership, we were struck by the car's understated design, which was likened to a modern-day EV like the Vox or Astra. The styling, although unassuming, seemed inoffensive and fitting for a car that is part of Pinin's lineup, a company known for its innovative designs.
**A Taste of Vietnamese Culture**
After testing drive, we headed to the nearby Vietnamese Temple to experience some warm soup and learn about the local culture. As we sat down to enjoy our meal, we couldn't help but feel a sense of disappointment that our day with the VF8 had been somewhat disappointing. The earlier range estimate of 2177 km proved to be overly optimistic, leaving us with limited battery life for our return journey.
As we sipped on our soup, we couldn't help but think about the issues that plagued the VF8 during our test drive. Despite its impressive features and sleek design, the car's poor throttle calibration and brake performance were noticeable. The suspension felt somewhat unrefined, and the buttons on the steering wheel could have been more intuitive to use.

As we explored the temple complex, we discovered that it was a beautiful spot, with stunning architecture and tranquil surroundings. Unfortunately, our visit was cut short when we realized that the temple was closed due to unspecified reasons. We couldn't help but wonder if they were aware of our presence, carrying their car to them in the hopes of experiencing some Vietnamese culture.
Despite the disappointment, we decided to make the most of our time and enjoy the surroundings. As we walked around the temple grounds, we couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at its beauty and significance. The Vinfast VF8 may not have been perfect, but it was certainly an interesting experience, and one that left us with a lasting impression.

In conclusion, our day with the Vinfast VF8 was a mixed bag. While the car's design and features were impressive, its performance issues and limited range left much to be desired. As we reflected on our experience, it became clear that the VF8 needed significant updates to address these concerns. With over-the-air updates, however, Vinfast can sort out many of the issues plaguing their electric vehicle.

unfortunately we couldn't make it happen also we heard from some other outlets that the experience of being hosted by them there was a bit weird yeah but luckily an owner local to us here offered up courageously his vinfast vf8 for us to review that said I didn't want to Rob Thomas of the Vietnam experience I've never been cuz he's never been he's been I have been and it's a really cool place so for Thomas and for you guys within the fins of Ontario we are going to drive the vinfast vf8 in Vietnam what's the VF and vf8 stand for anyway any Vost I guess vast yeah here it is the vinfast vinfast 8 the big brother to the incoming vf6 and vf7 and the first vinfast model to arrive in North America oh and by the way that joke about the suitcase at the beginning is unfair because yes we've heard some uh a lot of bad things about this car but our initial Impressions weren't that bad at all from the outside it seemed like vinfast has made a decent product here but let's see if we feel that way at the end of the day shall we and if you're new to throttle house we do car reviews track tests and quite a lot of messing about so subscribe and hit the bell all right here we go I'm in Vietnam I'm so excited I've never been yeah I got a big day laid out for you here oh really yeah first of all we're going to go to hat Long Bay hat Long Bay which is that I don't know if you've seen pictures of it beautiful I'm so when I went there I stayed overnight on a boat wow and then we're going to go get Fox f f f it's far far far we're going to get F yep um car's beeping at me already we'll get to that in a second and then and then what else we and then we're going to a Vietnamese Temple oh okay sounds fun vf8 so what are you doing there to make it be I am not doing a single thing it it's beeping at me it's like emergency steering it's popped up a few times in like the 10 m that we we we've got two errors here as well that have come up just before we started one was that the the anti- pinch window isn't working and the uh emergency active braking is also not operational and actually just by chance right behind us is a model Y and just for reference for our own reference we actually a model X there's a there's a model X behind us and we just went for a ride at a model Y which that isn't uh so it's a Cal's opinion yes it's a move point it's a move point but yes what Thomas is trying to say is at the beginning of today just before we set off we our friend in a model y came and let us take his out for a minute just so we had a reference point yes okay so I I I do have to say kind of like right off the bat here it isn't so bad you know like the fit and finish in in the cabin is is totally acceptable it it it isn't a $60,000 fit and finish no but then neither is a Tesla that's true and this is this is actually more warm environment here this is the tan and there's more options the way is beeping that's going to keep being a thing the warm yeah there it goes yeah you can get tan leather you can get um blue wao white yes dark black I think okay I'm that's four options that is four options that's two more options you get in the model y yep it's not as powerful as his model y performance though no it isn't there a bit delayed on that one yeah a little bit delay just a little bit sport sport okay before we have our mins altered by sport mode and go Vin really fast let's look at what's on tap there are only two ways to option A vf8 and both of them are electric dual motor all-wheel drive the Eco has a 5.9 second n to 60 time with 349 horsepower and then the top plus trim gets 402 horsepower which achieves a 5.5 n to 6 time today's tester is a plus so it gets a bunch of the fancy trimmings but in Canada it needs a $1,500 extra option to unlock the full 402 horsepower ours doesn't have that put down still quite a delay yeah still a delay the whole point of an EV is that you don't have to deal with the delays those are all like like class normal numbers right like there's there's nothing there it's like oh that's too high it's too low it's a bargain and none it's just kind of acceptable it's not particularly quick no so here's a weird thing and it's a riddle I'd love for you to solve for me yeah this is the same length to the inch as a Tesla Model y yes are you about to say it's really heavy it's so so heavy okay how much does it we how much does Tesla Model y weigh give will take 4,400 lb that's not light okay this weighs 5700 lb curve weight sorry I'm just going I thought you 5700 5700 the same curve is a Cadillac lyric which is a big SUV where is the weight I know where they put it where in the transmission tunnel that's that's where they that's where they're storing the lead the lead the the dumbbells yeah this doesn't use lithium ion or whatever batteries this is just using classic lead acid batteries there 500 of them yeah no you know listen in terms of like the raw numbers on paper it isn't that far off from where it should be based on its competitors right like what's the range like what's the maximum range of this if you go for the Eco I think it's like 425 km yeah and then you lose a bit if you go for the plus cuz it gets the bigger Wheels we're not getting that right now because we only have 50% battery you press it it's just delayed there you go oh you press it okay yeah 50% battery 217 km range maths what does that give you in total that's 4 four that's not bad right if it's if it's true it does say expected range yes it like it if you behave yourself if you behave yourself expected range but I'm just realizing right now how far away is this what was the final destination we're going to Temple so how far away is the temple billions of Miles okay we have to stop the charge aren't we yeah well why don't we stop at the hoan charging station okay James this doesn't look like hoyan or hoan hoan hoan beautiful place no this is hton Hills the town hall as close as I could get but grab my jacket hoyan is a place where you can get custom tailored suits oh these things so these are the ones I got when I was there do I get to wear one you can wear it yeah this is ex I got to choose the insert and everything I think they were like $60 per per dinner jacket so this is one of the things you do in Vietnam this is turning out to be a great trip so far technically they're custom however they fit terribly even on me um I'm not sure I think that listen yeah I'm feeling pretty good right now let's drag and suit you okay how do we look this is this is a great vacation all right this is a flow charger yeah we got Char so we got a that's easy okay is that that just that just hangs there like that eh Thomas what do I do um beep your beep your app okay like like Boop the app and then it will probably release it please wait author unauthorized access card is unknown we're off to a real good start here that's your charge Point app you idiot yeah they're Allied it told me they're Allied unauthorized access card is unknown what if you just use like a normal credit card oh interesting eventually we gave up and decided to attempt to make it to the end of our journey on one charge so we set off towards our first stop in Vietnam and thankfully on the way we figured out how to turn off the intrusive dangerous and utterly useless driving assists and turn it off yes off do you are you sure do you sure yes like do you don't want triple safety yeah okay so that's off now oh my God isn't that a delay the steering is very light being very light also it's there's quite a lot of lag in the front suspension in terms of like there's so much slack oh oh oh you can fill the white there yeah yeah there's a lot of it but where is it I can't get over where is there's just a pure block of uranium in this Tunnel right here yeah I also feel a bit sick yeah that's the ride I think that's the ride yeah not just because I I did that I've been feeling sick it's just uh just constantly bumping constantly moving around yeah it's uh it's it's a perfect example of a manufacturer who is new enough or doesn't have people on staff that have any experience tuning suspension like you you literally do need people with experience years of experience to dial in a car is ride yeah it's a shame because they got a lot of stuff right I like the driving position I like the fitting of the steering wheel diamet is fun they got sort of got the flat bottom even though this isn't the whatever Crazy Ones no it's fine like honestly it's F at five or 6 km an hour it's totally inoffensive to drive 5 6 km an hour yeah anything further than that and you start to feel that it weighs as close to the same weight as a Hummer and it has suspension barely good enough to hold up the weight of a hono Civic right yeah it just leans in the corners it doesn't stop moving and there's a weird vibration that pump like going backwards right yeah yeah so I'm scaring the crap out of that Nissan yeah if you don't have creep on it rolls back like a manual car why do I want that I don't know stop it stop you making me sick so earlier I thought you were just being a bad driver and not being very smooth on the throttle oh thanks but I'm realizing it's the car even if I smoothly go on the throttle it sort of sort of like jutters its way back and then jutters it way off too yeah when you come off it it goes like boom boom boom yeah horrible all right I'm going to turn the regen to low how does that feel now yeah it's doing a bit L it's a bit better yeah but now I'm not regenerating all right so now we've learned all assists have to be off at all times at all times regen has to be low and creep mode should be on so you don't roll back and if you do all of those things it just feels like a bad car all right let's go to Hut Long Bay Hut Long Bay well you don't want to be a car you want to be a boat okay I'm a bit disappointed if I'm honest why why that's not quite what I was expecting you are so ungrateful I'm cold I've planned this whole thing I'm cold I'm going back to the car all right let's go get some soup the F better be good unknown unknown okay um anyway I want to talk about the interior a little bit okay because it isn't so bad you know no at first glance it looks like they've just shoved everything into a screen like a Tesla but and but they have only done for 99.7 99.9% cuz we have a head up display yeah and that's really all you need actually all you need I just don't want to have to look over here like a Tesla to see my speed yeah I can see my speed the upsettingly low amount of battery I have left it's going down real quick right now I can see my Lan assist stuff and my maximum speed limit also we have a real volume knob down here not just a real one quite a satisfying one it feels heavy it's made out of osmium osmium figure out where the weight is we're trying to figure yeah there must be some osmium in here feel free to look that up on the perity elements but I I mean it's got a wireless charging pad which works I tested it makes your fallone's super hot and these buttons are actually decently intuitive I it's not it's not s nothing in here is hard to figure out especially this screen pretty much every menu is logical except it took us a minute to find the lane assist cuz it's in something called Drive AIDS it looks like a game it looks like a game because it's next to Baja Big Air yeah anyway there it is Highway assist speed lane you can adjust all the sensitivity and everything and our recommendation is turn it all off turn it off um but yeah honestly this is not a poorly made cabin it's not a poorly designed cabin I don't have any I I like the big huge sunroof that's really nice right seats are good and room in the back and room in the back yeah yeah we did a we did a backseat test of this and the Tesla Model y today and both myself and six 6'6 Harrison fit comfortably in both they're very similar maybe slightly less head room in the Tesla there you go and then well the other thing that people are complained about in this is the insulation and the the lack of sound deadening that's true I don't think it's any worse than a than the Tesla Model 3 no not really well that's not the new one we haven't tested the new Highland whatever it is no all right so why don't we experience what everyone else has experienced of it what happens when you just see it in a mall yeah well it's not as picturesque as I was uh picturing I got you the floating markets and hoyan now you've been officially there pixelated that is true and at least the soup is good the soup is good yeah yeah um okay let's talk about the styling here now we have some warm soup in our bellies and we've had a day with the car I like it you like it I think it's inoffensive yeah it's inoffensive that's that's exactly what it is it looks like a modernday EV Vox or Astra it even has the V yeah we'll show a picture yeah it does exactly you're right it looks like a okay yeah um and it comes in a long line of lineage of very important cars yeah because it's designed by pin and finina it's a pin in it's basically a Ferrari you've got the F this is also P F40 Maserati Grand turis my Alpha spider your Alpha spider vinfast vfa it's Ferrari right to vinfast no it's actually interesting is if you look at the list like on Wikipedia of all the cars that pin and finina house has designed you've got like Ferraris and Maserati beautiful Italian cars and you've got a handful of like Chinese or yeah Vietnamese cars you've never even heard of well recently they did the to which is a Turkish one right so basically we're pin andina snobs they've always sort of done funky stuff yeah that's in vinfast blue that's actually the name of that's actually name Vin yeah some of the other colors have some fun names but that one just Vin fast blue so it's a it's a vinfast vinfast 8 in vinfast blue yes yeah okay I like it um no listen I don't actually find any problems with the styling that I'm looking at and honestly walking around it side by side with the Tesla when it comes to panel alignment fitment and build quality it's actually better yeah we haven't found any issues the trunk keeps opening on us cuz the key is very poorly for some reason the buttons are like so like you could you barely even think about them it protrudes there it goes yeah it does close by the button though which is nice look at that yeah no it's not it's not bad looking no like like here's the thing I wonder how much of our issues with this car could be absolutely solved with just a set of high quality suspension and throttle calibration brake calibration brake calibration yeah and steering calibration steering calibration and uh just needs more time calibration I think calibration well you know what I don't think it needs to be charged just by battery I think it needs to be really religiously charged in its home home Temple we're excited for this we're excited for this can we finish the soup and go yeah all right after our bellies were filled with warm fa we set off towards the Vietnamese Temple as the sun was setting and it was beautiful stunning Transcendent from the side of the road because it was closed and we couldn't get in oh don't they know that we're bringing their uh their car to them it's a bit anticlimactic for the day I'll be honest lots of rules been what of rules going on here maybe they have hours maybe it's like an evening thing or something yeah you know it looks really cool James yeah this this is a laan temple oh it's not even Vietnamese well they should Allan people in here then because we are currently off we go it's a vinas level of humor okay it's sadly the disappointment at the end of the day got even disappoin tier because we realized that the earlier range estimate of 2177 km was very overly optimistic and we weren't going to make it back home on the charge we had left so we were forced to spend some time at a nearby charger thankfully there were some video games to keep us occupied unfortunately a few games aren't enough for us to recommend a vf8 real talk this car isn't ready thankfully as with all EVS overthe aair updates can solve a lot of problems so one can only expect that over time vinfast will strive to sort out the issues unfortunately until over the a updates can make the vfa lose 1,000 lounds and dial in the suspension components this company has some work to do thanks for watching\n"
