How To Setup Email on Windows Phone

Setting Up Email on Your Windows Phone 7 Device

Hey guys, David from The Unlocker Comm, and today is part of our Windows Phone basic how-to's where I show you how to set up email on your Windows. So, you've got your shiny new Windows Phone 7 device and you're loving all the animations and the transitions and all that fun stuff, but you're figuring maybe it's time I actually get some work done on this thing.

One of the first things you probably need to do is set up your work email. Not sure how to do that? That's a good question! We'll show you how to do that in two days, how-to guys. So, go ahead and swipe over, click on settings. Then, scroll down and find "Email and accounts" - click on that. Now, you're going to have different types of email accounts that you can select from: Windows Live, Yahoo Mail, Gmail, and Outlook (by the way, also means Exchange). Besides those, if none of those fit your email, you'll do other accounts now.

Regardless of which one you click on, it's going to ask you for your email and your password. Then, it's going to attempt to automatically set everything up for you. If that works, then great! If it doesn't, then it takes you into these settings in here and it'll pop up "Advanced" - click on that. Now, this is where you're going to put in your actual email settings.

Now, you can find all of this information either from your IT guy at work if it's a special email that your work uses, or otherwise, you can Google the word: whatever the name of your account is (whether it's Hotmail, etc.). Then, put the words "mail settings" after it. You'll eventually find somewhere on Google all of these settings. Put them in as described with your passwords and everything. Make sure you check little things like SSL enabled, or is your username supposed to be the email address before the "@". Look for all that stuff once you do.

Once you put it all in here, then hit sign in, and it should work. Okay? Once you do set up your email settings, it should automatically pop up an icon for whatever type of mail you have (whether it's Hotmail, Google Mail, or some other type of mail) on to the home screen so you can see my Google Mail account is here. Then, you're just going to click on it and make sure that all of your stuff comes up. So long as it does, you're all set!
