eBeam - How to Use an eBeam to Digital Whiteboard or Markup a Screen

# A Comprehensive Guide to Using the E-Beam System: A Step-by-Step Tutorial

## Introduction to the E-Beam System

Welcome to a brief course on the e-beam system, an innovative technology that transforms any screen into a whiteboard. This system comprises four main components: the pen and receiver, the tool palette software, the scrapbook application, and PowerPoint integration. In this article, we will walk you through each component and feature in detail.

## The Pen and Receiver

The e-beam pen is battery-powered, utilizing triple-A batteries for operation. To access the battery compartment, simply unscrew it carefully. The pen emits infrared signals from its black band to the receiver, which operates discreetly without visible light or noticeable sound during use. A critical tip: avoid applying excessive pressure on the screen to prevent damage.

The pen features three inputs:

1. **Small Round Button**: Initiates the e-beam software and positions the cursor.

2. **Rectangular Button**: Functions as the right mouse button, bringing up the context menu.

3. **White Tip**: Serves as the left-click button for standard interactions.

## Exploring the Tool Palette Software

The tool palette offers four modes: Mouse, Markup, Highlight, and PowerPoint.

### Mouse Mode

In this mode, the pen acts like a traditional mouse, allowing you to navigate and interact with your computer as usual.

### Markup Mode

Switching to Markup mode transforms the pen into a drawing tool. You can select colors and thickness for annotations. The highlight feature enables you to emphasize text or images by outlining them in vibrant colors.

### Highlight Mode

Highlight mode allows you to draw attention to specific areas on the screen, useful for presentations or notes. Experiment with different highlight colors to suit your needs.

## Navigating the Scrapbook Feature

The scrapbook is a versatile whiteboarding tool accessible via an icon in the tool palette. It supports multiple pages, making it ideal for organizing thoughts or creating visual content. Features include:

- **Page Addition**: Create new pages for different ideas or projects.

- **Gallery Integration**: Access built-in graphics to enhance your work.

- **Duplicate Page Function**: Replicate existing pages for further development without altering the original.

## Camera Integration

The scrapbook includes a camera feature (represented by an icon) that captures live webcam images. This can be used to include visuals like participant photos or physical documents into your whiteboard, adding a dynamic element to your work.

## Customizing and Saving Your Work

The e-beam system allows you to save your work in various formats:

- **ESB Format**: Preserves all elements for further editing.

- **PowerPoint/PDF**: Locks content in place for distribution.

## PowerPoint Mode

Switching to PowerPoint mode enables direct interaction with presentations. Annotate slides, make real-time edits, and navigate between them seamlessly. The system maintains annotations even when switching modes, ensuring your work is preserved.

## Additional Tips and Features

- **Software Start-Up**: If the receiver doesn't activate the software upon pen contact, manually launch the application.

- **Customization Options**: Adjust screen annotations or hide elements for a clutter-free workspace.

- **Avoiding Common Mistakes**: Keep fingers away from buttons while writing to prevent unintended actions.

## Conclusion

Mastering the e-beam system is a skill that enhances your productivity and creativity. With its versatile features, it's perfect for presentations, brainstorming sessions, or educational purposes. By following this guide, you can efficiently utilize each component to maximize your whiteboarding experience.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: eng'day and welcome to a brief course on eb e name is the software and hardware technology that turns any strain like this one into a whiteboard so let's get started the e-beam competi consists of four main components that we're going to use anyway first is the pen and receiver and that's a receiver the tool palette which is the primary software we're going to use scrapbook which is a little whiteboarding piece of software and the power point tie-in so let's get started the first thing is the pen the pen is battery-powered so if it runs out of power which whitman we don't know how long you laugh yet so I'm expecting quite some time all you do is unscrew it like this very carefully and there's a triple-a battery in there we go the pen sends infrared receiver essary citizenfour red signals from this little black band to the receiver so it doesn't give off any light that you can see and it doesn't doesn't do much that you're going to know that other than buzz a little bit when you're using it big thing to note is to not push on the screen so if you have enough terms of software on yet but why would you punch the screen I just need to touch very briefly nobody can hear this but I trying to bring it up and even here here you can hear it sighs don't push hard on the screen you're going to damage the screen you don't want to do that obviously there are three inputs on it the first is the small round button that will start the e-beam software if it's not already on the screen and it will position the outlet so I'm just going to click click like once you turn it on wants to turn it off okay then there's the rectangular button above it and that's right leg so I put this on the screen and I press the right mouse button it's gonna bring up the right click menu pretty straightforward and the third and most important is the white tip at the end that is the effectively left click I'm going to do this and press it down a bit so you can see that but there it is you can probably hear it and that's just left like standard left like the evening works really well except in the top corners it's not very accurate up here's close but just not quite and that's because the receiver isn't you know higher up but it's great for really get started with the tool palette the tool palette has several modes we're going to cover Mouse markup highlight scrapbook and PowerPoint the mouse in mouse mode it's just that so I'm going to just consider this mouse and just touch the screen and I can launch whatever I want to with it you know my computer hitting each other's mouths so nothing tremendously exciting there but it could be very useful or getting things like PowerPoint next thing is market mode now this is the most interesting you can see right now that it's on Mouse mode I'm going to change it to market motor and market local brings up a number of features but before I get to that I'm going to show you to go back and forth because right now you notice in the bottom left corner is a screen annotation so when I write on the screen it's you know writing on the screen and sometimes people get confused to think well now I just want to go press the start button or do something LLC with keyboard you can't you need to go back to Mouse mode and this will come up and say hey would you like to save this I'm going to say so game that is market mode that the mouse is mouse mode and uniquely emotes moar to be most of what you want to do okay so let's get on the market mode in mark Gotham Oakwood there are a couple of things to note most notably there is the color so I'm going to change this to you know this yellow and draw some pretty stuff on the screen and there's thickness so I'm going to go over to this little flash on the side here I'm going to choose the biggest one and I'm going to do the same thing and you can see it changes the thickness and color pretty exciting on there's also a highlight mode so I'm going to click on the highlight here and now highlighted yellow and yellow is kind of silly so I'm going to do just something different she's going to choose green and you can see that it highlights over top which is quite handy there's also an erase feature so if I wanna scrub that out I can do that above native state okay that's the big features of the tool palette let's go into the scrapbook now the scrapbook is actually in the tool palette so I'm going to change to the tool palette again it's going to ask me if I want to save it and I'm gonna say yes to this I actually all say I'll say no with the site it's not important and what this lets me do is get to the scrapbook if I say yes to that question you want to save this it would have brought me into the scrapbook but I'm gonna show you how to watch a scrapbook separately so scrub books this icon right here which you know looks like a scrapbook all of this does take a second it you to lunch they know that throughout this window will burned over and which I could do with the mouse or the important and the scrapbook has a number of features that you would expect first I'm going to go back in the market mode and I'm just gonna write something like hi and then I'm going to change the color and I'm going to go to highlight mode and I'm gonna change the color to a yellow highlight and I'm gonna highlight that just like crazy there we go and maybe I'll do a smiley face with with that there we go little ears on just for fun okay so any game you get the idea it's pretty straightforward to use both the only thing people have screwed up with this that I've seen is as they're writing they put their fingers because they get nervous they put their fingers on the buttons and then they're writing and things are happening them because they're touching the buttons and that's not a good idea so let me show you a few more things about the both the scrapbook the first thing is full string moment so I do over here to this icon looks like full screen and boom there it's full screen but I can go back down here you know when I can write me what I want let me back down here and change it's not full screen and that is I can add a page you'll see over here it's kind of like PowerPoint you'll see over here that there's a you know your PowerPoint slides I want to like an additional page another copy base you know I could mark up a map I can do whatever else they would like of this there's also a gallery over here with the number of built in you know graphics that you may find useful so but I want to just put this map in you know I can do that there feel free to play with ideas bevel data next thing is the camera now I'm using the camera already so let's see how I'm gonna pull this in the camera is this icon here and I'm already using it so yeah I can't use it twice but if I were to press that I could then select add as object after it recording picture and that would let me you know take a picture of who's in the room say one of you a you know an inventory of who's here or somebody wants to hold up a map or something you want to include it that's really the easiest way to do it so you just click on this icon it'll bring up the webcam and there you can always tell if the webcams on because our up can set a little white button with a little white LED on the bottom when that's on it's on also it will preview when the screens you live will see it and you just click Add as object and boom you'll get a picture of it once you've got that so you wanted to edit it I'm gonna say this is the picture which of course it doesn't it's just that with a photograph you should say which is just graphic if I want to edit it say I want to crop something I would say somebody is in the corner I don't want to show that I can simply double click on this and then resize it to that there we go and now I can just move that around and we're on our way ok nice feature is duplicate page so you've worked on this you've got a whole whiteboarding session done and you're ready to go and then you decide well you know we wanted to go another way with us but we don't to change what we have well easy to do just click duplicate page which is this light on right here knew exactly the same page so this I'm going to read it too long let's go back to market mode I've never changed it just for fun just to keep this going I'm going to change the color to purple over it is this is h2 and this is page three so I can see each of the pages now would have done with this say I want to send it to somebody well which is the most useful thing to do with wakeboarding notification you can save it as a PowerPoint you can save it as a PDF you can save it as an ESP ESP is their native application and if you save it as a PowerPoint or a PDF that it locks the content to whatever you click on the screen but if you save it as an ESB which is its native the game scrapbook evening scrapbook we can install the software on your PC and then you can edit each of the elements individually it's you know and then you can save that as a PowerPoint or whatever wherever else later on okay so the last notable thing here is PowerPoint mode and PowerPoint mode is pretty neat so let me get out of this I don't have to but I'm going to I'm just gonna say no I don't save this at all now I can start a PowerPoint from scratch or I could build or I could already have one going because we're just doing this now I'm going to start one from scratch so that's a builder quick so I'm just gonna go in design and I'm just gonna choose something just so we get you know something interesting here there we go so I'm just gonna right in here there's some stuff and they're right in here you know h1 it's actually the cover right and that's that one I'm going to do another one down here and call this slide three okay so there's my presentation it's pretty meaningful now I can go into here and I can like on the slide show at the bottom here and note what happens here that will change to a little PowerPoint icon you know now when I write this up I can do things when we go to market mode I can do things like this I can go to height weight and new things like that I want to go back back a slide here and because I realize that I've missed something on page one and I want to let's do this I want to underscore that that's something I really want people to pay attention to you would like my course and now I'm finished this and say I wanted to save this well it'll prompt you so as soon as I'm done I can either skip call skip skip all winter but I could press escape and skip it or finish it finished PowerPoint anyway of any way I would like anyway you'd normally finish it there you go and you can see that these annotations as they're called have been maintained they are there I can click to do the course of this because it said it flipped automatically back over to most mode now if I try to save these people honest people want to save those changes mccool I'm just going to force it but again if I say isn't it saved on the desktop and Steve and I'm going to close this and just to prove it all open it back up and there it is that's how you use the eating oh one other quick point is I mentioned it earlier but just some people find this annoying to be in the way so you don't have to have around so right now I'm gonna go into I can simply press this button that goes away okay so but it's there again I'm just pressing a little button and also if it doesn't start if the software doesn't start when you when you press the button what you want to do is launch the eating soft word out hereg'day and welcome to a brief course on eb e name is the software and hardware technology that turns any strain like
