First Details: Nintendo DS 2 (2010)

The Future of Nintendo's DS: What We Can Expect from the Next Generation Console

There have been numerous rumors and speculations about the next generation Nintendo DS console, with many predicting that it will boast significant improvements over its predecessor. One thing is certain - the upcoming console will feature improved graphics capabilities, thanks to the integration of NVIDIA's Integra chip. This powerful processor will enable high-definition video playback and graphically intense games, making it an ideal platform for gamers looking for a next-level experience.

The Nintendo DS 2, as it has been dubbed, will likely retain its signature folding design and dual-screen layout. However, it is expected to feature larger screens than the original, with improved display technology that enhances the overall user experience. The console's audio capabilities are also anticipated to be enhanced, with possibly two built-in speakers and a single microphone for voice input. One notable change that has been speculated is the elimination of the stylus, replaced by capacitive touchscreens similar to those found on modern smartphones. This will allow for more intuitive gameplay and interactive experiences, potentially revolutionizing the way we play games on our handheld consoles.

Another exciting feature that has been confirmed is the inclusion of an accelerometer, which will enable players to tilt their console while gaming, creating a new dimension of immersive gameplay. This technology, also found in Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch, promises to add a fresh layer of depth to the Nintendo DS experience. In addition to these hardware advancements, there are rumors that the next generation console will shift towards digital downloads, similar to Sony's PlayStation Portable Go (PSP Go) and Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade. This would allow players to download games directly to their console, potentially leading to lower prices and more affordable gaming options.

The transition to digital downloads is also expected to be accompanied by an expanded online store, where gamers can purchase and download content for a fraction of the cost of traditional retail releases. While it's unclear whether Nintendo will abandon its cartridge format entirely, there are rumors that they may modify or reduce the size of cartridges in response to this shift towards digital distribution. Furthermore, fans have speculated about the possibility of backwards compatibility with original DS games via an updated system, potentially allowing players to play their old favorites on the new console.

While these rumors and speculations paint a compelling picture of what's to come from Nintendo's next-generation DS console, it's essential to note that these are indeed just whispers in the wind. As of now, there is no concrete confirmation from Nintendo regarding these developments. However, with E3 approaching in June, we can expect an official unveiling and possibly even a release date announcement. Given the pace of technological advancements in recent years, it's possible that we may see the next-generation DS console arrive sooner rather than later.

As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, Nintendo has consistently demonstrated its ability to innovate and push boundaries. The future of handheld gaming looks bright, and with these rumors and speculations, there's a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation among gamers. Whether or not the Nintendo DS 2 lives up to our expectations remains to be seen, but one thing is certain - it's going to be an interesting ride.

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys what is up it's duncan and today i'm here with a video on the next generation nintendo ds um we'll just be calling it the ds2 although i'm sure they'll have a better name for it than that um of course the ds came out quite a few years ago and although they've refreshed it with a ton they've refreshed it with the ds lite the dsi and now the dsi xl and still all of them are fundamentally the same sort of system they all have the same specs we're gonna play the same games um but what a lot of the rumors are now saying that we might be having one as soon as the end of this year so i'm going to go ahead and go over everything we know and everything we expect out of the ds2 anyway let's get this one started okay guys so the first thing we've always got to go at is the touch screens and yes i think there's going to be two touchscreens as opposed to the single one on the original ds now of course when the original ds came out it was a really big deal okay you went from a game boy advance with just a single obviously non-touch screen to also you have two screens one of which was a touch screen that was really cool thing when you had the stylus and you know you could do all kinds of stuff as well as it had the microphone as well so it brought a lot of really cool things and obviously it's the ds has been tremendously successful so i expect they will bring over a lot of the features um i think that they will still have two screens um i'm not sure if one or both will be touchscreens at least the bottom one will definitely stay as a touch screen we wouldn't be surprised with the top one is also a touch screen i think the screens will get larger i think instead of the 4x3 ratio they're going to be more like widescreen i'm not really sure how big they're going to be probably about the same size maybe just a little bit larger than the standard ds or rather the standard dsi um one really cool thing i expect though is that the next ds is going to have much better graphics we've heard a lot about the nvidia integra chip which is what seems like it's going to be going into everything from you know net books to cell phones to i mean game systems and everything and it sounds like it's also going to be going into the next ds2 so the nvidia tegra chip actually has a lot of power and it can actually run high definition video and some pretty graphically intense games so i think you'd be a perfect fit for the next ds some other things are that i expect that the ds is going to stay mostly the same um it's not it's going to i believe it's going to keep the same folding design um two screens although of course they will probably be a little bit larger probably two speakers still a microphone and of course at least one maybe two touchscreens what i actually think they might get rid of though is the stylus if once they change because they're right now the ds has a resistive touchscreen which is you know the kind of squishy one that you know has been around for a long time well now i think they're going to change from resistive to capacitive capacitive is a little bit different it's kind of like on an iphone or a lot of modern cell phones and it's actually a solid it's you know you touch it doesn't i mean it feels like you're basically touching a solid piece of glass and it works with your finger i think working with your finger i think that'll be really cool for the ds i know a lot of the games use the stylus and everything but i think it's going to add a whole new level of interactiveness when you actually have your finger and you can draw stuff i think it'll make it a little bit more fun um another thing is that we believe it's going to have an accelerometer just like again from the iphone and ipod touch so you can actually take your ds and tilt it as you play as well as you know touching the touchscreen and you know they can do a lot of really creative things with it so that's most of the things i know of um there's a few other things such as maybe like you know actually going uh more towards digital downloads like the psp go and somewhat the dsi i wouldn't doubt that they have at least expand the dsi uh the online store or you can actually download a lot of games kind of similar to iphone apps you know for quite a bit cheaper than a normal game maybe like five ten dollars and you know actually be able to play it but you know more of kind of like a short game not not like a full long you know really long game that you know you would buy actually at the store i don't think they're going to be getting rid of the cartridge format they might change it up i would be surprised if the cartridges get smaller maybe or they you know they change up a little bit but i think it's still going to be mostly the same i wouldn't be surprised if it has ds uh if you can go ahead and plug in your old ds cards into the second the ds2 um so yeah guys that is my roundup of just about everything we've heard um it sounds like a lot of game developers or you know they're kind of being quiet about it but they're pretty much saying that they're already working on games for it and the games will probably be ready towards the end of the year so if that's the case and it of course it does sound like it is um then we're probably looking for a sort of like a fall winter release date probably just in time for the holiday season and but we also will probably have an unveiling and they'll actually nintendo will show it off for us sometime maybe in the summer maybe during uh june at the e3 conference who knows um so of course guys uh there's not these are rumors we don't have anything concrete yet but it sounds like the next ds is actually well on its way it could be here you know within just a few short months anyway guys thanks for watching youhey guys what is up it's duncan and today i'm here with a video on the next generation nintendo ds um we'll just be calling it the ds2
