Setting Up Google Stadia: A Beginner's Guide

Where I played with the thumper game, now let's talk about controllers for a controller you can just use your keyboard and mouse and start playing. Or you compare a compatible controller here are a list of compatible controllers right now so I could either plug in my Stadia controller or I could plug in my Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Other controllers you do have the option to pair over Bluetooth for the Pixel Book go. I'm just going to be using my Nintendo Pro Controller so I can pair it through Bluetooth or here I'm just going to plug in a USB C cable to the computer and to the controller. So here you can see that it says "Controller is linked" and I can go through and choose a different game if I would like to. Let's go ahead and choose Destiny - to enter game on your computer all you need to do is hold down the escape key. So as you can see getting this set up on your computer is super easy just download Google Chrome get to Stadia comm plug in your controller and you're ready to go.

Now let's move on to the third way to play on your mobile device. So here is the current list of supported mobile devices we have devices from Pixel Samsung Asus Razor as well as Oneplus. Has just announced that more devices will be coming soon. Once we have a compatible device and we have the Stadia app downloaded and signed into our account then we need to connect our controller. So here with the Stadia Controller and my Galaxy Note tend to open Stadia to handle Stadia controller so whenever I connect this controller use the Stadia application. So I'm going to select yes I want to always do that and now we're going to go through and choose the game that we want to play. So let's choose a new game here. So here we can see all of my different games let's go ahead and go through and play some more Tomb Raider and then down here we're going to choose where we want to play that game.

So before we chose the office there we learned about how to play on the computer and now we just need to select this screen. So with the Stadio controller it's pretty simple just like normal I'm going to select the menu up here with the three dots and then if you press the Stadia button it then brings up your Stadia friends list and you can go through and find other controls.

If at any time you want to exit just hold down the Stadia button and that will allow you to exit. Now we can go and choose another game or continue on with our date one of the best parts about gaming is playing with others online if the game you're playing supports online multiplayer you can join the game just like you're used to. You can also connect with Stadia friends by entering their name in this Stadia application. To play with friends in your home you can connect up to four Stadia controllers to your TV to play multiplayer games.

Brett what about playing on Android TV? Well as of right now there is no official word that Android TV will be supported with the Stadia application but when it does I will be just as excited as you are and I'll make a video all about it. So be sure to hit subscribe if you haven't already.

I believe Stadia is the solution to so many of the problems in the modern gaming era with faster internet speeds available and more screens to play on this is the gaming platform of the future. One of the biggest successes of the Nintendo Switch was being able to play great games anywhere and I believe Stadia will be able to offer the same benefit as long as you have a good internet connection.

10 I'm mode as many lawns as I could until I could finally afford my own Nintendo 64 fast-forward to today and many game consoles later we're at a place where we never imagined gaming could go in modern-day consoles the graphics are much better the downloads are far bigger and we have more accessories and consoles that we know what to do with taking up a ton of space and leaving our wallets empty the good news is Google has come up with an answer to many of these issues in a brand new platform called Google stadia let's get started hey everybody welcome to tech with Brett where I help tech work for you stadia is Google's cloud based gaming platform that means it runs fully online from Google servers without the need to buy a new console every few years or have to wait for games to download or even updates to finish to simplify all you need is four things four stadia first you need a good Wi-Fi connection second you need a steady account third you need a game to play and fourth you need a screen and a controller to play on and in today's video I'm going to break down each of these four items so you will be able to start playing in no time first up a good internet connection why is a good internet connection important well like I said before stadia is 100% online based so if you don't have internet you can't play google recommends that you have at least 10 megabits per second download as a minimum to stream at 720p resolution and 35 megabits per second to stream at 4k with HDR and 5.1 surround sound you can do a speed test from this website to see what your current connection is to see if Google studio will work for you online I have seen many reviews that say that anything above 20 megabits per second has worked great for them I just upgraded to fiber here and so in today's videos I will be playing with 250 megabits per second stadia also requires that you have Wi-Fi connection or a wired connection right now you can't do this over cellular when connecting to your router make sure that you have connected to the 5 gigahertz option if available and put your device as close to the router as possible but try not to go within 2 feet even with these high download requirements I have seen many people play from different on-the-go sports and have no complaints with the Wi-Fi they were just happy to be able to play next up a stadia account to get a stadia count you will need 3 things first you need to live where stadia is currently supported these are the current countries I'll leave a link in the description below for the latest countries that are available second you will need to have a Google account stadia is not compatible with G suite accounts Google for education or other managed accounts so if yours ends in at gmail.com you're good to go also once you set up your account your email can't be changed so make sure that you've chosen a really nice gmail account third is to sign up for a stadia pro or a stadia base account you can do this by going to stadia calm from your computer or downloading the Android or iOS application before you move on let's talk about the difference between stadia Pro and stadia base so stadia Pro is a subscription service that costs $9.99 a month and it will give you 4k resolution with HDR on supported TVs PCs and tablets as well as 5.1 surround sound it gives you stadia pro game access as well as exclusive games and discounts stadia base has no monthly fee and it lets you play games at 1080p 60 frames per second with stereo sound and you can play games that you have purchased on the same hardware available as stadium pro without the subscription now if you do have a stadia Pro subscription you gain instant access to all kinds of games and perks you can cancel at any time you just lose access to the stadia pro games discounts and enhanced graphics if you purchase any games you'll have access to those when you drop down to stadia base if you do Reese absque Ribe you gain back the access to the games that you had claimed when you had Studio Pro before you will also have access to your game progress so you didn't lose any of that information now let's go through the process to set up your account so now I'm just going to head into the stadia application so once you open up the stadia application select get started and then we're going to choose what email we want our stadia account to be on so here I'm going to choose this email and there it verifies that my account will work and now here we are going to confirm that we want that account next it is asking for us to put in an invite code if you had a friend that had stadia Pro they could send you an invite code or if you purchase the stadia premier edition online Google may have sent you an invite code but right now all we need to do is select continue without a code and then here it's going to run you through the Terms of Service and you need to agree next up we get to choose our stadia avatar so you can choose this later let's go ahead and choose this little robot icon right here next we are going to choose our stadia name so this is your gamer name or your gamertag and this is how other people will be able to find you and become friends and if that looks great you're going to select confirm once we have our stadia name now we just select onwards now we're going to choose our privacy settings this is how you allow certain people to be able to find you online or not so the first thing is who can send you a friend request so we can choose to have no one friends of friends or all players so I'm going to allow friends of friends and then next you have the option of who can see details about you so who can see your friends list let's say only friends can see my friends list who can see your game and achievements will do friends as well who can see your online status definitely only friends and then here see what games you're playing when you're online and again I'm just going to choose friends the last option here is who can send you invites you can voice chat with another player or a whole group even while playing so who do you allow to invite you to a voice chat or a party so this one I would allow friends and their friends and then here invite you to play a game and let's just say friends so once that is set then I just select next and then lastly we have the option to get the latest updates from Google about stadia so here we can sign up for email updates or we can choose not now now next we have the option to choose to become a stadia pro so Google is actually doing something really cool right now where they are giving everyone a free two-month trial of the stadia Pro subscription the main benefits of choosing stadia Pro is you get to claim pro games right now you get exclusive discounts and you can play up to 4k HDR with 5.1 surround sound now you do have the option to not participate in the trial but for this demo I am going to start the trial and then here it's popping up your credit card to verify it now stadia Pro is $9.99 a month so after 2 months is up you will be charged for that and you can cancel that trial at any time so here I'm going to select subscribe and type in my password now that we have our stadia account it's time to find a game to play because I've signed up for stadia Pro here it says you're a pro and now we just need to select get games first up because I'm a pro member it's showing me stadia pro games so all of these games right here that say Pro mean that I can claim them to my stadia account right now for free and I can play them as long as I have my stadia Pro subscription so here we have destiny to grid guilt serious Sam so quite a few different games and this one down to the bottom thumper I'm having a lot of fun playing that so now if we want to claim any of these games we just need to tap on the game that we want to claim and then right here I just need to select claim up here at the top it will give you the ESRB rating it give you a little more description about what actually comes with that so here it's going to give you destiny - as well as the stadia Pro access to the destiny to collection now if we go back let's say I want to claim a thumper so I'm just going to tap on here and I can go through and select claim and here this is an every one 10 plus gives you a little more details when it was released and some other information there and you can go through and claim other games let's go and see what other titles are available with stadia so over here I'm going to select store here you can see that I've already claimed destiny - up there at the top and then here I have these stadia Pro deals so I talked about how certain games are going to be discounted if you have stadia Pro well here are the game so right now you can get Borderlands 3 for $30 instead of $59.99 if you didn't sign up for stadia Pro so really awesome benefits right here going through these different games so here you can see all the cool discounts you can get as a stadia pro subscriber now let's say we want to find games that aren't a part of stadia Pro here we can come down and see new releases so if you wanted to buy doom there you can see the full price let's select see all the different games so here you can go through and see all the games that are available and here you can see there are no pro options or discounts so everyone is going to be buying this game at the same price so once you purchase one of these games you'll be able to play this game anywhere that you are able to play stadia as long as stadia is available so then going back we can go and see all games and so here you can see the long list of stadia games that are currently available since stadia is still a new platform the selection of games is currently pretty limited earlier this year Google announced more than 120 games would be available by the end of 2020 hopefully a few of those titles will be able to be released among the current circumstances I will link a current list of all the games available in the description below now any games that I do purchase when I have a stadia Pro subscription and then cancel I will still be able to play those games when I no longer have that stadia Pro subscription now that we have some games let's go over how to play - play your stadia games you will need a screen and a controller there are three types of ways that you can play one is that you can play it on a TV you can play it on a computer or you can play on a phone hopefully one of these options will let you play right now without having to wait any longer first let's talk about the TV as of right now to play stadia on your TV you will need a chromecast Ultra here I have purchased a stadia premier edition for a hundred and twenty nine dollars that comes with a stadia controller as well as a way to charge your controller here we have a chromecast ultra and this will work in any TV as long as you have an HDMI input it also comes with the chromecast power cord that gives you an Ethernet input for the chromecast so these devices together are pretty much your Stadio console if you have a first second or third generation chromecast it does not support stadia you will need to get the chromecast ultra if you purchase the premiere edition the night blue is no longer available so you will be receiving the clearly white stadia pro controller the chromecast ultra as well as three months free of stadium pro after the quick setup of these devices we will be ready to play to set up the chromecast Ultra just plug it into the HDMI port on your TV plug in the power cable of the chromecast ultra into an outlet switch to that input if you have a router nearby plug an Ethernet cable into it and then into the power brick of your chromecast Ultra for the best connection possible then we just need a head into the Google home app select the plus at the top left and then set up device then set up new devices in your home choose your address select the chromecast ultra that you want to connect and here it is verifying that we do have the Ethernet connection connected agree to the terms yes I'm in choose the room you want to add it to and then we're going to link the chromecast ultra so we can play stadia games all by voice and we are all done and now it's going to do a quick update on the chromecast ultra now that our setup is finished it's asking if we want to connect our stadia controller so we're gonna head right into stadia now if you already do have a chromecast ultra you can just pick up a stadia controller for $69 it comes with a USB cable and the controller and this is the clearly white it also comes in wasabi and jet black because we just set up the Stadio chromecast ultra here it's asking if I want to pair my controller so I'm going to select next and then here I need to turn on location access if you didn't get this prompt just heading to the stadia application and select the controller at the top of the screen so here I'm going to allow access to my location all the time on the Stadio controller I just need to hold down the stadia button until it vibrates and here it found the stevia controller so we're going to connect it to Wi-Fi so here the controller is vibrating next it is talking about microphone privacy down here underneath the headphone jack you have a microphone that's because the Stadio controller can actually use the Google assistant so we're going to select continue here I'm going to allow to share usage data and now we are going to choose the Wi-Fi network we want it to be connected to so here I have the Wi-Fi network there you could also choose a different network and then I'm going to enter the password now my studio controller is connecting directly to the Wi-Fi next it's going to do a quick update on the controller now that it's only blinking white we can then move forward so now it is time to play so a blinking white status means that the controller is already linked use the linking code on the chromecast ultra screen to wirelessly link your controller and start playing on your TV so over here on the TV with the chromecast ultra we can see the code that we need B X left X so now it's saying that whenever we turn on the Stadio controller it's automatically going to connect to this TV and that takes about 30 seconds and now we're going to head back to the stadia app to choose what game we want to play so here I can scroll through and see what different games I have but here I'm just going to choose thumper and then I'm gonna choose what screen I want it to play on so we're talking about TV right now so I'm going to select office TV and then I'm going to tap play and as you can see as soon as I do that over here on the TV the game has started and we are ready to play now that we are in the game controls and aspects of the game are just like we are used to on other consoles no matter what way you play got it now the first time you get set up it's going to take a little bit of work but after everything is set up and you have a Google home in your house this is how you can start playing play thumper on office TV so all I need to do is say the name what TV I want to play it on turn on my stadia controller and now we're ready to go ouch - stop your game just hold down the stadia button and then you had the options to resume game eggsy game or shut down stadia so here I'm going to exit game to go to the home screen from the home screen I then do have the option to use the controller to select other games so here I can go through other programs one benefit of using the stadia controller with your chromecast ultra is the Google assistant button so here in the app if we select the menu and then down here we have Google assistant here we have the option to enable the Google assistant button on the stadia controller now with this we can easily ask Google different questions as well as play certain games what's the weather like tomorrow the second screen that you could use is from your computer so you could use a Windows Device Mac or here I'm going to be using a Chromebook just download the latest version of the Chrome browser and then head to stadia comm here you can see because I'm logged in with my gmail account it's already showing my stadia account and there I can play stadia on your TV you will need a chromecast Ultra here I have purchased a stadia premier edition for a hundred and twenty nine dollars that comes with a stadia controller as well as a way to charge your controller here we have a chromecast ultra and this will work in any TV as long as you have an HDMI input it also comes with the chromecast power cord that gives you an Ethernet input for the chromecast so these devices together are pretty much your Stadio console if you have a first second or third generation chromecast it does not support stadia you will need to get the chromecast ultra if you purchase the premiere edition the night blue is no longer available so you will be receiving the clearly white stadia pro controller the chromecast ultra as well as three months free of stadium pro after the quick setup of these devices we will be ready to play to set up the chromecast Ultra just plug it into the HDMI port on your TV plug in the power cable of the chromecast ultra into an outlet switch to that input if you have a router nearby plug an Ethernet cable into it and then into the power brick of your chromecast Ultra for the best connection possible then we just need a head into the Google home app select the plus at the top left and then set up device then set up new devices in your home choose your address select the chromecast ultra that you want to connect and here it is verifying that we do have the Ethernet connection connected agree to the terms yes I'm in choose the room you want to add it to and then we're going to link the chromecast ultra so we can play stadia games all by voice and we are all done and now it's going to do a quick update on the chromecast ultra now that our setup is finished it's asking if we want to connect our stadia controller so we're gonna head right into stadia now if you already do have a chromecast ultra you can just pick up a stadia controller for $69 it comes with a USB cable and the controller and this is the clearly white it also comes in wasabi and jet black because we just set up the Stadio chromecast ultra here it's asking if I want to pair my controller so I'm going to select next and then here I need to turn on location access if you didn't get this prompt just heading to the stadia application and select the controller at the top of the screen so here I'm going to allow access to my location all the time on the Stadio controller I just need to hold down the stadia button until it vibrates and here it found the stevia controller so we're going to connect it to Wi-Fi so here the controller is vibrating next it is talking about microphone privacy down here underneath the headphone jack you have a microphone that's because the Stadio controller can actually use the Google assistant so we're going to select continue here I'm going to allow to share usage data and now we are going to choose the Wi-Fi network we want it to be connected to so here I have the Wi-Fi network there you could also choose a different network and then I'm going to enter the password now my studio controller is connecting directly to the Wi-Fi next it's going to do a quick update on the controller now that it's only blinking white we can then move forward so now it is time to play so a blinking white status means that the controller is already linked use the linking code on the chromecast ultra screen to wirelessly link your controller and start playing on your TV so over here on the TV with the chromecast ultra we can see the code that we need B X left X so now it's saying that whenever we turn on the Stadio controller it's automatically going to connect to this TV and that takes about 30 seconds and now we're going to head back to the stadia app to choose what game we want to play so here I can scroll through and see what different games I have but here I'm just going to choose thumper and then I'm gonna choose what screen I want it to play on so we're talking about TV right now so I'm going to select office TV and then I'm going to tap play and as you can see as soon as I do that over here on the TV the game has started and we are ready to play now that we are in the game controls and aspects of the game are just like we are used to on other consoles no matter what way you play got it now the first time you get set up it's going to take a little bit of work but after everything is set up and you have a Google home in your house this is how you can start playing play thumper on office TV so all I need to do is say the name what TV I want to play it on turn on my stadia controller and now we're ready to go ouch - stop your game just hold down the stadia button and then you had the options to resume game eggsy game or shut down stadia so here I'm going to exit game to go to the home screen from the home screen I then do have the option to use the controller to select other games so here I can go through other programs one benefit of using the stadia controller with your chromecast ultra is the Google assistant button so here in the app if we select the menu and then down here we have Google assistant here we have the option to enable the Google assistant button on the stadia controller now with this we can easily ask Google different questions as well as play certain games what's the weather like tomorrow the second screen that you could use is from your computer so you could use a Windows Device Mac or here I'm going to be using a Chromebook just download the latest version of the Chrome browser and then head to stadia comm here you can see because I'm logged in with my gmail account it's already showing my stadia account and there I can continue off where I played with the thumper game now let's talk about controllers for a controller you can just use your keyboard and mouse and start playing or you compare a compatible controller here are a list of compatible controllers right now so I could either plug in my stadia controller or I could plug in my Nintendo switch pro controller other controllers you do have the option to pair over bluetooth for the pixel book go I'm just going to be using my Nintendo pro controller so I can pair it through bluetooth or here I'm just going to plug in a USB C cable to the computer and to the controller so here you can see that it says a controller is linked and I can go through and choose a different game if I would like to so let's go ahead and choose destiny - to enter game on your computer all you need to do is hold down the escape key so as you can see getting this set up on your computer is super easy just download Google Chrome get to stadia comm plug in your controller and you're ready to go now let's move on to the third way to play on your mobile device so here is the current list of supported mobile devices we have devices from pixel Samsung Asus razor as well as oneplus has just announced that more devices will be coming soon once we have a compatible device and we have the stadia app downloaded and signed into our account then we need to connect our controller so here with the stadia controller and my Galaxy Note tend to open stadia to handle stadia controller so whenever I connect this controller use the stadia application so I'm going to select yes I want to always do that and now we're going to go through and choose the game that we want to play so let's choose a new game here so here we can see all of my different games let's go ahead and go through and play some more tomb raider and then down here we're going to choose where we want to play that game so before we chose the office there we learned about how to play on the computer and now we just need to select this screen and then we need to tap play and then here because I'm still playing on my other game it's asking if I want to exit the other game yes I want to exit now if you do lose internet connection or something you have 15 minutes to connect to continue where you left off so say I left my computer and I want to continue here you can instantly do that within 15 minutes or it's just going to pick up where you previously saved so here I've already been playing so I'm just going to continue and here I'm going to continue with my save so with the Stadio controller it's pretty simple just like normal I'm going to select the menu up here with the three dots and then if you press the stadia button it then brings up your stadia friends list and you can go through and find other controls if at any time you want to exit just hold down the stadia button and that will allow you to exit and now we can go and choose another game or continue on with our date one of the best parts about gaming is playing with others online if the game you're playing supports online multiplayer you can join the game just like you're used to you can also connect with stadia friends by entering their name in this stadia application to play with friends in your home you can connect up to four stadia controllers to your TV to play multiplayer games Brett what about playing on Android TV well as of right now there is no official word that Android TV will be supported with the stadia application but when it does I will be just as excited as you are and I'll make a video all about it so be sure to hit subscribe if you haven't already so that is how you set up and use stadia as an off again on again gamer I think stadia is the solution to so many of the problems in the modern gaming era with faster internet speeds available and more screens to play on this is the gaming platform of the future one of the biggest successes of the Nintendo switch was being able to play great games anywhere and I believe stadia will be able to offer the same benefit as long as you have a good internet connection now only if we can get Nintendo to make a few games for the stadia platform I think it would be perfect and that is how you can set up a Google stadia account in just four easy steps and how to play on three different screens now we just need to show Google and the developers our support so that we never have to buy these expensive consoles again if
