considering now we've seen omen 17s before so what's the big deal well apart from the updated specs this 2019 omen 17 has gone on a bit of a diet it's 22% thinner and 15% lighter than before don't get me wrong though this is still a big laptop you'll definitely feel this in your backpack but it is reasonably portable for a gaming laptop so if you're taking this to a LAN party or torment or something then yeah it's not too bad at all though you may get a few looks if you open this up in a Starbucks now speaking of the screen as I try to avoid the reflections of the lights although actually you can see it's a matte display so even with a bright studio lights shining right on it it's not too bad at all I wish there were more matte gaming laptops but we're looking at a 17 inch full HD IPS 144 Hertz and gsync display my first thought is 1080p at 17 inch it's not going to look great and of course this isn't gonna be as sharp as a 4k 15 inch laptop but for gaming actually I think it still makes sense even at this size because generally with laptops you either get TP or 4k and if you want to play games at high frame rates to take advantage of that really smooth 144 host refresh then 1080p is a much better option for K will just destroy your framerate so I can understand that I think that's a smart choice and we do also have G sync which isn't something you see all that often actually on gaming laptops and helps reduce screen tearing and also just smooths out your FPS at lower frame rate so this really is a gaming oriented display and with that IPS panel actually does look quite good so for me I think TTP 144 Hertz is the sweet spot right now for high refresh rate gaming now I think it's a safe bet given the size of this thing and the fact that half the chassis is taken up with cooling vents that there's something pretty powerful inside and there is the omen 17 can be SPECT with either an RT X 2060 2070 or even 2080 and they are all full fat RTX cards no max-q anywhere to be found the r-tx 2070 which have got in this one is around 30 to 35% faster than the 2070 max-q so this review sample that HP sent over is kinda like the mid tier model which actually I think is the best bang for buck as I say we've got the Arctic's 2070 along with a ninth gen I 7 processor 16 gigs of ram a 512 gig SSD and I want terabyte hard drive so plenty of room for all your games and a time of recording it'll set you back around 1700 pounds or the prices do vary if you want to pay a bit less you can get it with an RT X xx 64 and 1500 pounds but you do also miss out on G sync with that model or if you do have very deep pockets and just want the best performance possible for 2500 pounds you can get it with the RT X 2080 and double the RAM so gaming on the omen 17 is great I go around 135 FPS in overwatch on medium to high settings which just looks immense as is apex legends where I got the full 144 FPS using medium settings which still looks very good numpad as well there's also a good size precision touchpad which feels smooth and responsive and it has separate click buttons we've got Bang & Olufsen tune speakers on the sides and underneath which are loud and clear and there's a decent amount of bass well for a laptop anyway one area I think a lot of people overlook when buying a laptop like this is the Wi-Fi speed the Wi-Fi connectivity and actually in the case of the omen 17 we get new Wi-Fi 6 support which means if you have a compatible router you should get a little bit faster but more importantly more reliable internet and if you are playing online games with this you know competitively fast-paced shooters then you're going to want the best connection possible there's also a really good range of ports we get 3 USB 3.1 type A's 1
