Using Glass Screen Protectors for Ultimate Protection: An Experiment with Eye Loom
When it comes to protecting our smartphones from scratches and cracks, we often turn to screen protectors as a reliable solution. But have you ever wondered what would happen if we applied force to your screen with one of these screen protectors on? In this article, I'll be sharing my experiment with Eye Loom's glass screen protector, where I put it to the test by dropping a hammer on top of it.
I decided to conduct this experiment to see if a glass screen protector would effectively shield my phone's actual Gorilla Glass from damage. To set up the test, I placed a cutting board under my phone to prevent any ripples or disturbances on the floor. Next, I applied the Eye Loom screen protector to my phone, which represented the actual Gorilla Glass beneath it. Then, I carefully positioned another screen protector (Aries) on top of the first one, effectively creating two layers of glass. With a hammer in hand, I prepared myself for the impact.
With caution, I dropped the hammer onto the top layer of the screen protector, watching closely to see what would happen to the second layer. As expected, the Aries screen protector cracked under the force, while the original Eye Loom protector remained unscathed and intact. This experiment demonstrated that using a glass screen protector can indeed provide excellent protection for your phone's actual Gorilla Glass. I was impressed by how well this product performed in such a simple yet telling test.
A Few Caveats to Consider
While my experiment showed promising results, there are a few things to keep in mind when using Eye Loom's glass screen protectors. First and foremost, it's essential to choose a high-quality adhesive that sticks properly to your phone's screen. A loose or weak adhesive can compromise the effectiveness of the protector and lead to dust accumulation under it.
Another concern is the presence of small dots on some prototype versions of this product. Eye Loom has tested several different prototypes, but only one works effectively. If you're particular about aesthetics, this dot matrix may be a drawback for you. On the other hand, if you don't mind or can easily overlook these tiny imperfections, the benefits of using an Eye Loom screen protector far outweigh any minor cosmetic concerns.
The Cost and Conclusion
Eye Loom's glass screen protectors are indeed an investment, but one that I believe is well worth it for the added peace of mind they provide. Not only did my experiment show that this product can withstand significant force without compromising its protective properties, but I also appreciate the attention to detail and quality that has gone into its design.
If you're in the market for a reliable screen protector, I highly recommend considering Eye Loom's offerings. With proper use and care, these protectors can provide long-lasting protection for your phone's actual Gorilla Glass. By taking this simple step, you'll be protecting your device from unnecessary wear and tear, ensuring it remains in top condition for years to come.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey everybody this is Erica the technology nerd who likes to film stuff and I have the eye loom screen made tempered glass screen protector for the galaxy s3 a lot of people have been asking about this I am very excited to be able to show this to you I'm also going to be doing a bits of an experiment that has to do with a hammer so that'll be plenty of fun so make sure that you watch and stay tuned for this so what exactly is a tempered glass screen protector well if any of you remember back to when I had created a review for speaking SGP they had their own version of a tempered glass screen protector for the galaxy s3 and essentially it's like a slab of Gorilla Glass that you put on top of your Gorilla Glass why would anybody want to do that when Gorilla Glass is incredibly scratch resistant break resistant and resists fingerprints well it's not immune to these things and a lot of people still want to put a screen protector on so this serves the exact same function rather than damaging the glass that you have beneath it so yes the eye loom screen protector is good with resisting scratches good with resisting fingerprints it's shock absorbent it's not easy to break and it's shatterproof so when people hear about these types of screen protectors they become very interested I really loved the one that spigen had made the only problem was that because the galaxy s3 has a little bit of a curve in the glass it wasn't able to register every tap I had made on the screen it essentially made the screen a lot less responsive now I've loved spigen version for the iPhone and for the original Galaxy Note because they have entirely flat screens and there was no trouble with responsiveness because those screens were flat so speaking had to eventually take the screen protector off the market because there were a lot of complaints and I haven't seen them make another one since so a lot of people keep asking me where is this tempered glass screen protector that you made in your review I don't see it anymore I can't find it it doesn't exist anymore but I loom made their own version and it works a hundred percent good job I loo so what that I loom has done different that makes there is function where the one that spigen had made didn't work very well at all well if you can see here there is a bit of silicon adhesive that goes around here you can see that there's a little cutout in the adhesive right here there is adhesive all around these ports or openings but the one place that you don't have adhesive is actually on the screen itself now typically these glass screen protectors have a silicone adhesive that covers this entire thing and you place it down on top of the screen you tap the center and the adhesive grows and stretches over the entire screen and makes a really nice bubble free application but with the Galaxy s3 that just wasn't cutting it so now there is no adhesive on the screen here so what they've done here is added this matrix of these little dots and it's helped with the touch screen responsiveness it is now a hundred percent responsive and still the glass is a hundred percent clear it doesn't cause any trouble with lack of resolution in the screen and it doesn't cause any type of cloudiness so it's still a hundred percent clear I can text now without any issues with responsiveness so yes you can see now that it is very responsive and I don't have any troubles with dragging from the top of the screen or going around and navigating the phone so this works absolutely awesome no loss of responsiveness or clarity during gameplay so it's just like having your normal screen except for you've got this glass slab on top of it I also love that when scrolling about and generally just navigating the phone I haven't lost that feeling of glass so it's very smooth still my fingers don't drag across the surface so that just it's something that's brilliant to me because I hate having scratches and I also hate screen protectors I support screen protectors by sure hate them so how annoying is this dot matrix actually well when the screen is on in many conditions you won't notice it now if you're the type of person that is very acute with no any type of imperfection this might bother you and you might want to stay away from this product while using this day-to-day you might just get used to the stock matrix being there and you'll forget about it that's what's happened mostly with me or you'll be the type of person that just is oblivious and doesn't notice small details like this and you won't care at all this will be the greatest thing since cheese to you since I'm a person that's very acute with detail I've noticed that the screen protector are these little dots that are in this screen protector tend to magnify the sub pixels that are in this screen you notice this the most in white or things that are near white because you've got red and green and blue sub pixels that are on at their highest intensities and it tends to create this rainbow type magnification effect but it's not like this under every single circumstance so when you look at darker colors or things that have a more diverse arrangement of colors or textures you can see that these little dots don't tend to cause that magnification problem so bad and actually at this point I can't see them really at all an ambient lighting such as if there is light in the room or you're just in daylight this is how you can expect a movie to look a problem with having some ambient lighting with this screen protector is that it tends to reflect off of those little dots and you can tend to see them more than if you had no ambient lighting in the room at all watch what happens when you turn off any type of ambient light source now as for the direct sunlight tests the screen is still very visible especially when you have it set at a hundred percent brightness you can read the screen just fine text looks just fine I know as I'm recording this you can see my reflection as quite obvious it's actually more exaggerated than it actually appears but this screen protector does make this screen more reflective so in direct sunlight if you don't have the screen on full brightness you can really see yourself almost like a perfect reflection as if looking in a mirror for some people that will be annoying for others if you're voyeuristic especially and just like looking at yourself in the mirror you've got yourself a pocket mirror you can take it out and say hey my teeth look good my hair looks good my makeup looks good I'm set so you it just depends on your preference because the visibility still is quite good one other thing that I am noticing is that those little matrix dots that become really apparent and ambient lighting seem to disappear entirely in direct sunlight so that's good I guess so what comes in your eye Illume tempered glass screen protector package well you've got a choice of either white or blue for the galaxy s3 if you want to this is actually a red galaxy s3 ish the glasses at least red and I was able to change the appearance to blue so if you don't like the colour of your screen at least it's nice that you have the option to change cosmetically the color without defacing your phone or voiding your warranty you get a microfiber cloth you get an instruction pamphlet I recommend reading this make sure that you completely follow these instructions they also provide you with a pouch and inside it are these aluminum home buttons that you can change the appearance of your home button with you can see that I have my Galaxy s3 with a silver one and I think it looks quite snazzy there good quality as well and they stick pretty nice now as for installation I recommend that you start with somewhere like a bathroom that you can turn on the shower first minutes that's steaming hot that way you get steam in the air and that steam actually helps to settle the dust that's in the air so you don't get dust inside of your application that's the most annoying thing when you purchase a $30 screen protector and you've got dust stuck right underneath it so if you have access to a bathroom that has a shower and you can turn on that heat really high that way you can get that room nice and steamy it will make all the difference when applying this and preventing dust before applying this screen protector take the microfiber cloth that they have given you and make sure to get rid of any fingerprints that are on the screen or anything that might interfere with the adhesive sticking now they always recommend to remove this last this is actually the protective film that's on top of the glass it keeps any scratches from occurring on your glass screen protector but it kind of gets in the way and I like to be able to see exactly what it's going to be like underneath as I'm setting this down without any type of cloudiness so yes I just removed that I always recommend doing that first I always find that the best thing to do is to actually align the screen protector to the phone so you can get an exact idea of how it's going to go down you don't want to just go ahead and apply it and just think oh I know exactly how this should look no just always err on the side of caution go into a program and click on the home button that way you can make sure that you're seeing that the lights are lined up perfectly then set the phone down on a flat surface that's not going to move at all make sure again that there is absolutely nothing that's on your screen that will bother you peel off the adhesive side of this film that's going to get you to the adhesive and very carefully just as you had practice align it without touching down on the screen once you are certain that everything is aligned just as you had expected let go of it put some pressure down to make sure it doesn't move about then immediately start pushing down on the colored parts here that you had seen where the adhesive lies once it's in place for good measure you can take your thumbs and start pushing outward from the center of the screen that way if there's any bubbles beneath its it pushes it out although I don't really see that particular step as necessary the most important thing is to make sure that you have properly secured the adhesive that's on these colored parts the part that I am nervous about is that up near the receiver and also on the sides of the screen there really is not all that much adhesive so if you don't press down firmly enough to begin with you're going to get dust underneath here and there's a very good chance then that once there's dust underneath there that it could creep in underneath the screen protector on the one that spigen had made the one that did have some problems there was adhesive all over the screen protector so you weren't at any risk of thin places and dust getting in underneath it but that is actually a pretty big worry and concern for me here now my biggest recommendation would be to make sure that you're getting this to adhere properly this should not be clicking like this I don't know if that was my fault or if there just isn't enough adhesive right here but easily deaths has gotten into here gotten through here and then finally underneath the screen this is just after taking the screen protector off and you can see that there is dust that settled all around there and these are all the little flecks of deaths that have gotten underneath over time so when applying this it really is in your best interest to make sure that you are pushing down pretty decently hard on all of these places where the adhesive lies and you know what on this one it's not clicking so there must have been a defect with the one that I first had on here but that should not be getting dust stuck underneath like that what is nice about this screen protector is that it does have reusable qualities so if you ever do happen to get dust that's stuck underneath it or it's becoming weird not sticking in places you can take it and put it underneath some warm water don't use soap or anything like that but the warm water will help to get rid of the dust that's on the screen and it will also make the adhesive tacky again that way once you dry it off just do this somewhere that's in a steamy bathroom so there isn't any dust you can go ahead and reapply it and it should be just fine again another thing that's nice about these screen protectors is that just about any case will fit on the galaxy s3 with this you can see that there's a small amount of bezel and as long as your case if it's a rigid case doesn't go past this part here you'll be able to use that case just fine but even cases like the say do active case which has a silicon part on it and you've also got a skeleton now because the clips for the skeleton don't go past this part here it goes on very well and fits absolutely perfectly so this is the seidio active case and it indeed works very very well with the galaxy s3 with one of these glass screen protectors I don't think you can ask for more protection than this I had this screen protector on my phone for about a month and a half but the great thing is that it was very resistant against scratches I really don't have any scratches on this thing what I do want to do is show you just what this guy can withstand and we're gonna get a screwdriver and a nail and then I'm gonna smash it with a hammer at one point so that'll be fun now I loom says that this screen protector has a surface hardness of 9h now that's not talking about the hardness of Gorilla Glass because glass is courts and courts has a hardness of seven H on Mohs scale of hardness this is actually the pencil hardness test that has to do with finishes that's on anything including tables so the finish on this is very resistant to scratches so that means that a 9h pencil you know drying pencils going up to 9h won't be able to scratch it does that include metal objects though let's go ahead and play with that of course sand is going to scratch it so if you get any sand in your pockets because it's in the air and it's magically everywhere whether or not you live next to a beach so yes and will always scratch it but let's go ahead and play with some nice metal now in terms of mineral hardness metal is not very hard it should not be able to scratch Gorilla Glass so let's go ahead and see what goes on here you're scratching it and it is hard scratching it very well and I'm not hearing any scratching noises so how did it hold up to my torture well you can see that it held up very well but let's try something like a razor blade and a very sharp nail blade actually it's quite dull but let's see if you can scratch it oh that sounds ugly nobody is gonna do this it's just because this is fun you can actually hear that that's that's making a very nice noise okay so upon glance and turning it on and looking at it and turning it I'm not really seeing any damage there let's go ahead and breathe on it that's the true test yeah so Wow yeah did did very very very well upon further inspection I'm seeing very very fine scratches but it's really not bad at all so this thing can really take a beating let's try it with a nail you can see some of the scratches there scratching deeply yeah first it's always the nail that's able to do it nails now scratching the heck out of this thing it's also got to the absolute sharpest point yeah this yeah this could be your gorilla glass screen or this can be a glass screen protector thing with these glass screen protectors is that they are very thick so even though I scratched this deeply it's not going to go all the way through and get to your glass beneath it so really it's it's a good idea for ultimate protection there is one more thing that I want to do I want to see what it would be like if there was to be a lot of force applied to your screen with one of these screen protectors is it going to actually protect your screen beneath it so that's why I've got the hammer now I'm not gonna be stupid and reckless and take this hammer and smash it against my actual screen right here because I don't know what's going to happen that's why we're doing this experiment poor Charlene has already been killed at one point already that's why she's two-toned and white galaxy s3 transformed into a red one so let's show you how we're going to do this experiment exactly then we have this wood cutting board yeah nice and settled there so they don't rake my floor and what we're going to do is actually set down this screen protector this represents your actual glass then we're going to take the screen protector that's Aries right now on this phone I'm gonna try to do this one don't break it and we're gonna take this and we're going to lay it on top of this screen protector here so now we effectively have two pieces of glass you've got two you're korilla glass that's beneath it and the screen protector that is on top of it now where is my hammer we're gonna take this and with just one drop of this hammer let's see what happens to the one that's actually beneath this ready nice so there is a crack I don't know which one it's on there you go yeah it cracked this one mmm shatterproof yes it is shatterproof but you can see that this one here has remained untouched there's no cracks in it none at all so I am fairly convinced that if you were to put one of these screen protectors on top of your actual Gorilla Glass that it's gonna save you a world of hurt I just took a hammer and dropped it on top of it and the only thing that cracked was this one would be I really hope that I've convinced you that using a glass screen protector can be a really good idea I think that I loom has created an excellent product here I think it's going to protect your screen very well the only thing that I'm concerned about is making sure that you get one where the adhesive actually sticks you should not have any clicking whatsoever when you are pushing around the frame or something's not sitting right and you're going to get dust underneath it also if you see dust accumulating on the sides in that little gap because the screen is curved don't panic and start chipping up that adhesive because you're going to compromise it and in that way you might get dust underneath it rather just put your phone in a case and keep it that way and forget about it and I think that the screen protector will do its job very well you may not mind that dot matrix or it might be something that really bothers you but after talking to eye loom they've tested several different prototypes and the only one that works is the one at which they have that dot matrix so it's absolutely necessary and it's comes at a price so thank you everybody for watching this has been Erica the chick knowledge nerd who likes to film stuff with the two eye loom screen protectors please rate comment and subscribe you can follow me on Twitter you can add me on Google+ which you can do all from my main youtube channel page or you can also be my friend on Facebook now there's one thing I want to mention about Facebook I said once I hit the 5,000 friend limit which is very soon if not now already it's not going to let me add any more friends but rather it's going to have you subscribe instead you still have all the access to my page you can still ask me questions and post on my wall and send me messages but so once I hit that 5,000 friend limit I'm not going to be able to add you as a friend so please if you can right now just hit the subscribe button on Facebook and you get still all those same privileges I've been using Facebook as a forum as I am building my website that way it's been a community for everybody to ask questions and you can contact me personally that way although I don't usually answer to the personal messages because people mostly just say hi hi hi and it fills up like a massive spam box and I don't see questions so if you have a question that you really really want addressed put it on the main wall and if I don't answer from the main messages at least it's there for everyone to see it and I can answer it or so can anybody else so again thank you everybody for watching this has been fun real fun so have a good night everybodyhey everybody this is Erica the technology nerd who likes to film stuff and I have the eye loom screen made tempered eye Illume tempered glass screen protector package well you've got a choice of either white or blue for the galaxy s3 if you want to this is actually a red galaxy s3 ish the glasses at least red and I was able to change the appearance to blue so if you don't like the colour of your screen at least it's nice that you have the option to change cosmetically the color without defacing your phone or voiding your warranty you get a microfiber cloth you get an instruction pamphlet I recommend reading this make sure that you completely follow these instructions they also provide you with a pouch and inside it are these aluminum home buttons that you can change the appearance of your home button with you can see that I have my Galaxy s3 with a silver one and I think it looks quite snazzy there good quality as well and they stick pretty nice now as for installation I recommend that you start with somewhere like a bathroom that you can turn on the shower first minutes that's steaming hot that way you get steam in the air and that steam actually helps to settle the dust that's in the air so you don't get dust inside of your application that's the most annoying thing when you purchase a $30 a program and click on the home button that way you can make sure that you're seeing that the lights are lined up perfectly then set the phone down on a flat surface that's not going to move at all make sure again that there is absolutely nothing that's on your screen that will bother you peel off the adhesive side of this film that's going to get you to the adhesive and very carefully just as you had practice align it without touching down on the screen once you are certain that everything is aligned just as you had expected let go of it put some pressure down to make sure it doesn't move about then immediately start pushing down on the colored parts here that you had seen where the adhesive lies once it's in place for good measure you can take your thumbs and start pushing outward from the center of the screen that way if there's any bubbles beneath its it pushes it out although I don't really see that particular step as necessary the most important thing is to make sure that you have properly secured the adhesive that's on these colored parts the part that I am nervous about is that up near the receiver and also on the sides of the screen there really is not all that much adhesive so if you don't press down firmly enough to begin with you're going to get dust underneath here and there's a very good chance then that once there's dust underneath there that it could creep in underneath the screen protector on the one that spigen had made the one that did have some problems there was adhesive all over the screen protector so you weren't at any risk of thin places and underneath over time so when applying this it really is in your best interest to make sure that you are pushing down pretty decently hard on all of these places where the adhesive lies and you know what on this one it's not clicking so there must have been a defect with the one that I first had on here but that should not be getting dust stuck underneath like that what is nice about this screen protector is that it does have reusable qualities so if you ever do happen to get dust that's stuck underneath it or it's becoming weird not sticking in places you can take it and put it underneath some warm water don't use soap or anything like that but the warm water will help to get rid of the dust that's on the screen and it will also make the adhesive tacky again that way once you dry it off just do this somewhere that's in a steamy bathroom so there isn't any dust you can go ahead and reapply it and it should be just fine again another thing that's nice about these screen protectors is that just about any case will fit on the galaxy s3 with this you can see that there's a small amount of bezel and as long as your case if it's a rigid case doesn't go past this part here you'll be able to use that case just fine but even cases like the say do active case which has a silicon part on it and you've also got a skeleton now because the clips for the skeleton don't go past this part here it goes on very well and fits absolutely perfectly so this is the seidio active case and it indeed works very very well with the galaxy s3 with one of these glass screen protectors I don't think you can ask for more protection than this I had this screen protector on my phone for about a month and a half but the great thing is that it was very resistant against scratches I really don't have any scratches on this thing what I do want to do is show you just what this guy can withstand and we're gonna get a screwdriver and a nail and then I'm gonna smash it with a hammer at one point so that'll be fun now I loom says that this screen protector has a surface hardness of 9h now that's not talking about the hardness of Gorilla Glass because glass is courts and courts has a hardness of seven H on Mohs scale of hardness this is actually the pencil hardness test that has to do with finishes that's on anything including tables so the finish on this is very resistant to scratches so that means that a 9h pencil you know drying pencils going up to 9h won't be able to scratch it does that include metal objects though let's go ahead and play with that of course sand is going to scratch it so if you get any sand in your pockets because it's in the air and it's magically everywhere whether or not you live next to a beach so yes and will always scratch it but let's go ahead and play with some nice metal now in terms of mineral hardness metal is not very hard it should not be able to scratch Gorilla Glass so let's go ahead and see what goes on here you're scratching it and it is hard scratching it very well and I'm not hearing any scratching noises so how did it hold up to my torture well you can see that it held up very well but let's try something like a razor blade and a very sharp nail blade actually it's quite dull but let's see if you can scratch it oh that sounds ugly nobody is gonna do this it's just because this is fun you can actually hear that that's that's making a very nice noise okay so upon glance and turning it on and looking at it and turning it I'm not really seeing any damage there let's go ahead and breathe on it that's the true test yeah so Wow yeah did did very very very well upon further inspection I'm seeing very very fine scratches but it's really not bad at all so this thing can really take a beating let's try it with a nail you can see some of the scratches there scratching deeply yeah first it's always the nail that's able to do it nails now scratching the heck out of this thing it's also got to the absolute sharpest point yeah this yeah this could be your gorilla glass screen or this can be a glass screen protector thing with these glass screen protectors is that they are very thick so even though I scratched this deeply it's not going to go all the way through and get to your glass beneath it so really it's it's a good idea for ultimate protection there is one more thing that I want to do I want to see what it would be like if there was to be a lot of force applied to your screen with one of these screen protectors is it going to actually protect your screen beneath it so that's why I've got the hammer now I'm not gonna be stupid and reckless and take this hammer and smash it against my actual screen right here because I don't know what's going to happen that's why we're doing this experiment poor Charlene has already been killed at one point already that's why she's two-toned and white galaxy s3 transformed into a red one so let's show you how we're going to do this experiment exactly then we have this wood cutting board yeah nice and settled there so they don't rake my floor and what we're going to do is actually set down this screen protector this represents your actual glass then we're going to take the screen protector that's Aries right now on this phone I'm gonna try to do this one don't break it and we're gonna take this and we're going to lay it on top of this screen protector here so now we effectively have two pieces of glass you've got two you're korilla glass that's beneath it and the screen protector that is on top of it now where is my hammer we're gonna take this and with just one drop of this hammer let's see what happens to the one that's actually beneath this ready nice so there is a crack I don't know which one it's on there you go yeah it cracked this one mmm shatterproof yes it is shatterproof but you can see that this one here has remained untouched there's no cracks in it none at all so I am fairly convinced that if you were to put one of these screen protectors on top of your actual Gorilla Glass that it's gonna save you a world of hurt I just took a hammer and dropped it on top of it and the only thing that cracked was this one would be I really hope that I've convinced you that using a glass screen protector can be a really good idea I think that I loom has created an excellent product here I think it's going to protect your screen very well the only thing that I'm concerned about is making sure that you get one where the adhesive actually sticks you should not have any clicking whatsoever when you are pushing around the frame or something's not sitting right and you're going to get dust underneath it also if you see dust accumulating on the sides in that little gap because the screen is curved don't panic and start chipping up that adhesive because you're going to compromise it and in that way you might get dust underneath it rather just put your phone in a case and keep it that way and forget about it and I think that the screen protector will do its job very well you may not mind that dot matrix or it might be something that really bothers you but after talking to eye loom they've tested several different prototypes and the only one that works is the one at which they have that dot matrix so it's absolutely necessary and it's comes at a price so thank you everybody for watching this has been Erica the chick knowledge nerd who likes to film stuff with the two eye loom screen protectors please rate comment and subscribe you can follow me on Twitter you can add me on Google+ which you can do all from my main youtube channel page or you can also be my friend on Facebook now there's one thing I want to mention about Facebook I said once I hit the 5,000 friend limit which is very soon if not now already it's not going to let me add any more friends but rather it's going to have you subscribe instead you still have all the access to my page you can still ask me questions and post on my wall and send me messages but so once I hit that 5,000 friend limit I'm not going to be able to add you as a friend so please if you can right now just hit the subscribe button on Facebook and you get still all those same privileges I've been using Facebook as a forum as I am building my website that way it's been a community for everybody to ask questions and you can contact me personally that way although I don't usually answer to the personal messages because people mostly just say hi hi hi and it fills up like a massive spam box and I don't see questions so if you have a question that you really really want addressed put it on the main wall and if I don't answer from the main messages at least it's there for everyone to see it and I can answer it or so can anybody else so again thank you everybody for watching this has been fun real fun so have a good night everybody\n"
