The FASTEST Laptop CPU I’ve Tested! Gigabyte A5 _ XMG Apex 15 Review

**The XMG Apex 15 / Gigabyte A5 X1: A Decent Gaming Laptop with Some Compromises**

Unfortunately, I don't have prices at the moment, but based on past Clevo laptops, they have generally been competitively priced. The XMG Apex 15 / Gigabyte A5 X1 is a decent gaming laptop that offers a good balance of performance and value. However, it's essential to consider its limitations and compromises before making a decision.

The build quality and materials used in this laptop are not as nice as some of the more expensive options from larger brands. It's partly due to the fact that Clevo laptops like this one are generally priced better, but that's a trade-off. The chassis is thinner than some other gaming laptops, which allows for more space inside, but it also means there's less room for heat pipes and other components.

Gaming performance was decent in my review unit, but the RTX 3070 graphics card is close to the performance of last-generation machines from Nvidia. This is partly due to the inability to disable Optimus, which can lead to reduced performance in certain games. Additionally, the 1080p screen might not be ideal for this level of performance.

On the other hand, the battery life was not great, but it's worth noting that you can completely swap out the battery, which is a relatively uncommon feature these days. The screen still had good response time and decent color gamut and brightness, although it lacked FreeSync technology.

The 5900HX processor seems to be the reason for this laptop's excellent performance in CPU and content creator workloads. However, the Clevo software and BIOS are limited, and you can't actually control the chip, which is a bit disappointing. The HX series is supposed to be unlocked, so it's unclear why that feature isn't being utilized.

The I/O options on this laptop are decent, but USB 2.0 in 2021 is still a bit rough. Thermals weren't great, and there's plenty of space inside the chassis, but it doesn't appear to be utilized well. It looks like more heat pipes could have been fit inside to improve cooling.

In CPU plus GPU workloads, there was still CPU thermal throttling on the processor at 95 degrees Celsius even with the fan maxed out and a cooling pad. This is not ideal, especially considering that this laptop has a higher specced model compared to the reviewer's own machine.

Despite these limitations, if the price is reasonable and you don't mind running at warmer temperatures, there's not much holding me back from recommending this machine. As with any Clevo laptop, it's essential to keep in mind that prices might vary, and the temperatures may be better on lower-specced models.

**Conclusion**

The XMG Apex 15 / Gigabyte A5 X1 is a decent gaming laptop that offers a good balance of performance and value. However, it's not without its compromises and limitations. The build quality and materials could be improved, the battery life could be better, and the temperatures might be higher than expected. Nevertheless, if you're looking for a budget-friendly gaming laptop with good performance and don't mind some trade-offs, this machine is worth considering.
