Drifting at Atlanta Motorsports Park: A Unique Experience
As I stood at the entrance of Atlanta Motorsports Park, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. It was a once-a-year event where drifting was allowed, and I had brought my Porsche to participate in it. The last time I drove here, I got kicked out because my car was too loud, but this time around, I was determined to make the most of it. I arrived with my friend Kevin, who lent me his two-car trailer, and we were joined by Griff HQ, who was organizing the event.
As I began to drive, I realized that the layout of the track was not as familiar to me as I thought it would be. I had only driven it at Clutch Kickers or OSW apart from Cletus' tracks, so I was a bit apprehensive about my performance. However, with the new 2J engine in my car, I felt more confident and excited to get out of second gear and stretch its legs. The temperature inside the car was quite hot, but the cooling system seemed to be working well.
During my first lap, I tried to capture some footage and share it with the audience. I mentioned that my visor's ratio was a bit shorter than before, which made me feel like the car ran cooler. I also gave an update on the changes I had made to the setup of my car, including the loosening of its suspension. The track seemed to be designed for sweeping turns, and I was excited to see how it would handle.
As I continued with my laps, I noticed that there were some cars running cool, which made me feel better about my car's performance. However, when I was drifting in fourth gear going down the hill, the car started to bind a bit, which made me lose control. Despite this minor setback, I managed to get back on track and enjoy the experience of drifting.
Throughout the day, I had some issues with my car, including a blown trans or input shaft that needed attention after the event. However, the good news was that it was a shakedown for the E36, making sure it would be safe to bring it to Gridlife Midwest in just a few weeks. The event was also a great opportunity for me to stretch my legs and get some driving experience with a new car.
I would like to extend a big shout-out to Drift HQ for organizing this unique event. It's not every day that you get to drift on a track like this, especially one that's considered a legitimate drift track without the usual noise ordinance restrictions. The event was well-organized and offered a great experience for all participants.
As I looked around at the attendees, I noticed that some of them were traveling from far distances to be here, which made me appreciate the effort they put into making this event happen. It's not just about drifting; it's also about the community and camaraderie among enthusiasts.
I'm excited to share more content with my audience in the coming weeks, including K-truck projects, welding, and maybe even some car builds or modifications. The next few weeks are going to be busy, but I'm looking forward to sharing them with all of you.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enso all right guys so we're here at atlanta motorsports park last time i drove here if you guys remember i got kicked out because my porsche was too loud um today is i think like a once a year thing where they let drifting happening uh griff hq is doing a drift event here for fourth of july colette's here with her car kevin let us borrow his two car trailer i brought up 336. it's been the first time i've driven this car not at clutch kickers or osw apart from cletuses um i'm super excited to like get out of second gear and stretch the legs on this thing especially now that it's got the 2j um it's gonna be a good day jordan's here we like jordan good people uh but yeah i'm excited it's gonna be a good driving day i'll try to capture some of that and share with you guys all right guys first lap out i'm excited my visor's gross your ratio is a little bit shorter than it was before which is kind of exciting car runs a lot cooler i still got to give you guys kind of an update letting all the changes made to the setup all right guys we're out on track there's gonna be some of my first laps i have no idea what the layout is so i might slide lap and i might slide around a little bit um but it looks like we have to get a lap in everyone's doing sight laps and uh quick first session the car is definitely on the looser side it's gonna be a fun sweeper it's so hot in this car all right this is going to be the fun layout i'm excited for this is a big boy speeds in this thing something's going on weird in my car is that fuel in it let's try to make it back out if we can alright let's do this we're roasting tires guys that was so chill the car kind of binds that lock coming down the hill it felt cool but it definitely doesn't have a lot of grip i feel like i'm fighting it cars running cool so that's good oh yeah only 190. that was fourth gear going down the hill hmm so hot that was some fast drifting it's really hard when you're blind here to figure out what's going on but um learning the track i'm learning my shift points learning where to keep speed up it definitely gives you some tunnel shielding in this car from ddi will help a lot intake air temps phenomenal water temps good looks like my steering might be um it's a long lap not my best driving but it's fun ignorant fun after these laps when we're back i want to put it on jack stands and look at the front oh like around a blind corner i don't know what he had for breakfast today but he is spicy so it's a great time out here it's so so hectic it's been a minute since we've uh run an event in the 15 between me and marco jordan's been helping out but um it's a little bit more than just a turnkey simple car so we're kind of going nuts a little bit we had a little tie rod change we had to do tow the car and uh i guess super anxious when there's a lot of people watching us and i started to freak out inside even though everyone's just like having fun hanging out i'm just excited to go out there and quick fourth year maybe fifth maybe even six if i'm a good boy okay bye hmm mmm me ah um um wow wow all right we got the last session i'm excited they collect for red soaked up the fastest i've ever driven this car today about to right now let's go my hmm um um yo 360 on mike's big wheel you have to like video okay oh what this is a really good event it was very fun i had fun getting to stretch my legs or my gears so to speak broke another trans or input shaft issues so we're gonna have to diagnose that but the good news is this was the shakedown for the e36 to make sure that it would be safe to bring the good light if you guys saw my schedule that i posted on instagram i'm going to be going to gridlife midwest in just a few weeks so expected to see the e36 out there i'm stoked to drive it uh yeah she's getting better and better i feel like i didn't go in detail about the cooling system like i want to do with you guys so that'll have to wait for a future video but overall great event uh big big big shout out to drift hq for being able to put this together i don't think there's ever been like a legit drift event at this track and this is like one of those really nice club tracks like uh like thermal in california where like you don't get to drift on stuff like this you know there's pools and executive suites and cottages and people with porsches they don't want none of us drifters here spinning off track and oiling down the track they didn't even want me in my porsche because it was too loud so it's awesome that they were able to put this together i think the reason correct me if i'm wrong might be because the only day that they don't care for the noise ordinance is on july 4th i i think that's a thing that like the town doesn't care about noise ordinance so that's why drifting's a lot stoked to be out here stoked to meet all of you guys that came out a lot of traveling these next couple weeks some exciting stuff going on apart from fd even um that's kind of secret going on behind the scenes honestly i'm stoked to get home from my k truck so tomorrow we're going to go have fun maybe go weld the diff honestly you guys probably should just expect k truck content for probably the next like month or two no actual builds no cars nothing that is 15 that was just to strike you guys along for the next bit or so collect killed it make sure you watch her video and watch her shred she did really well the car actually sounds sick now too pumped on that so just flies flying into my mouth and um when you say\n"
