Both Of My Cheap Aston Martin Cars Have Been Too Reliable, And I Have No Idea Why

The Art of Repair: A Lamborghini Owner's Journey

As I sat behind the wheel of my Aston Martin, I couldn't help but think about how much work had gone into restoring it to its former glory. From the patch job on the carbon fiber shell to the new wheels, every detail had been meticulously planned and executed. But one thing that still needed attention was the exhaust system. The owner had mentioned a fuse box-like contraption hiding under the rear seat, which required some tinkering to access.

I decided to take matters into my own hands and remove the rear seat cover to reveal the fuse panel underneath. With a few quick twists of a bolt, I managed to access the fuses and replace the faulty one with a new one. It was like magic - just two minutes later, the exhaust valve began to function properly, and the sound of the engine changed from a dull hum to a rich, throaty roar. The owner had told me that this part would be easy, but I couldn't help feeling a sense of pride at having accomplished it myself.

The final touch was adding new wheels - specifically, a set of Michelin Pilot Sports in silver. While trying them on, we noticed that the tire size on the front wheel was slightly different from the rear, with a 255mm diameter versus a 245mm diameter. The owner expressed some concern about using these tires, as they might look too meaty on the front and potentially rub against other components. But overall, the new wheels transformed the car's appearance, giving it a sleek, sharp design that was unmistakably Aston Martin.

As I took the car for a test drive, the exhaust system performed flawlessly, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement at being behind the wheel again. The sound of the engine was music to my ears, and I could almost hear the satisfaction from the owner as we cruised down the highway. But just as things were going smoothly, the tire pressure monitor system began to behave erratically, sending warnings on the dashboard. It seemed like a minor glitch, but one that needed attention nonetheless.

Despite this final hiccup, the car's performance was nothing short of incredible. The exhaust valve opened and closed with precision, giving the engine a rich, throaty sound that was simply exhilarating. As we cruised through the neighborhood, I could feel the owner's excitement at having finally completed the repairs - it was clear that this Aston Martin had been more than just a project for him, but an opportunity to restore something truly special.

In the end, it seemed that the owner had done an impressive job of bringing the car back from the brink of obscurity. From the patch job on the carbon fiber shell to the new wheels, every detail had been carefully considered and executed. And while there were still some minor quirks to iron out - like the erratic tire pressure monitor system - the overall result was a truly exceptional driving experience. As I pulled over and shut off the engine, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to be behind the wheel of such an incredible machine.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwelcome to movies garage the dumbest automotive channel in all of youtube and these are my aston martins my 1998 aston martin db7 and my 2011 aston martin repeat and this has surprised me just as much as everyone else i imagine but both of these astons have been very reliable for me and considering my bad luck and my propensity to buy the cheapest and unloved vehicles it's very surprising so to reward my repeat for four months of trouble-free ownership i'm going to uncork the exhaust i'm going to try and do it all myself and give it a new set of wheels which it needs very badly and to reward my db7 for two years of nearly trouble-free ownership i'm going to well i'm going to sell it yes it's time to say goodbye to my db7 even though i love this car and it's not because i've replaced it with the repeat these cars are very different very different generations of aston martin's they drive completely different they act completely different i just don't use this car very much anymore and i have some other hoopties on the horizon that i want to buy so i'm going to auction this thing off no reserve on you guessed it daddy doug's cars and bids daddy doug did a great job auctioning off my other cars my rolls-royce phantom and my 1993 chevy z28 camaro so i'm going to give him another shot no reserve on this db7 and i think it's a really special opportunity for somebody because find another one you won't that's probably why i'm going to regret selling this one the most even more than probably the rolls-royce phantom or the chevy camaro because i could find another one of those cars easily enough but i couldn't find another one of these i think they made only 1300 db7s with a supercharged inline six cylinder worldwide and only about half of those were manual transmissions and probably only a few hundred of those found its way to the united states so this is an extremely rare car in the perfect color british race in green only 38 000 miles and it is in beautiful condition and i'm telling it really stupid but i know selling this db7 on cars and bids is not a stupid decision so check out the listing linked in the description below now i'll take you on a tour of the db7 and we'll go for a drive so it's hard to capture british racing green on camera but it is gorgeous in person gorgeous and it is in very very nice condition there are plenty of little things here and there with a car normal of its age probably the most annoying one is the crack in the bumper right here like it bumps something another car or a wall you know just just a light bump just enough to crack the paint otherwise there's a few little chips and dings throughout the car but overall really really nice condition i put these new continental tires on it last year just a gorgeous car i know your eyes aren't deceiving you these are mazda 3 tail lights and inside are mazda miata door handles along with the ash tray that is another mazda thing notice the wood there's a little chip here in the wood while i point that out original alpine stereo but overall really nice shape inside of here as well the green piping the green carpets it is just so 90s so gorgeous and the back seats well they're tight but they're actually usable for kids which is great for me and unlike a lot of them the leather dashboard is still in great shape it hasn't warped very much at all same with the suede headliner still in excellent condition so under the hood is a supercharged inline six that you would find well in a jaguar but that's actually a great thing it's great that this car is a parts been special and finding things little things that we needed to fix on this car has been very easy because you can match it up with other parts i believe they're supposed to be covers on here you can kind of see the remnants of the mounts it was velcro to cover up these relays and things that's missing but otherwise very stock in here very tidy let me come around here this engine was actually hand built by aston martin even though it is a jag engine it was built up it has 335 horsepower which is a lot for the time it is actually pretty fast even today hand built by aston martin inspected by steve gray and i'll start it up for you she runs beautifully this is a very quiet engine but the exhaust is just perfect it's a nice little purple and growl to it now let's take it out for a drive all right away we go supercharger makes a great noise the acceleration is plenty and this manual transmission it's not the tightest manual transmission but it's fine it feels like a vintage jaguar i've never driven a vintage aston martin myself but i have driven some e-type jags and this kind of feels like a very refined nice faster version of it and here we are at 65. that's what i love about this thing is it's quiet it's smooth the window seals are all sealed up still well it's just a quiet comfortable cruiser but like all other aston martins it is slightly athletic as well so it's still fun to drive it's a great combination between a lanyard a gt car and a sports car i absolutely love this thing let's let him do one more pull why not she's warmed up oh that's great it really is great now people prefer the later v12 the db7s over this the inline six one but i think there's some downsides one is the maintenance and repairs they're a lot more expensive everything's a lot harder to reach in there and also i think a little bit of the magic was lost with the original db7 design they kind of pimped it up a little bit after the new millennium i honestly don't think the cars look as good personally and it's like it has plenty of power like i said i know i'm going to miss this car and i know once it's gone and when i sell it i'll never be able to replace it again this thing is so rare it's amazing how cheap these cars are considering how rare they are how good looking they are how important they are to aston martin's history and the fact that it has a manual transmission be sure to bid early a bit often a bit a lot for my sake because i need the money to pay for another very expensive car that is coming into hooky's garage but uh now let's get back to the wizards where we'll start working on the repeat also do a hippity fleet update now this repeat couldn't be any more different than my db7 is from a completely generation of aston martin with v12s and technology and all this other stuff and it is an excellent all-rounder car one of the best all-around cars i've ever had it's fun to drive but it's also supremely comfortable it has a usable back seat with car seat mounts and tvs for my kids and a hatchback so i can actually load stuff it's actually pretty good performance out of the 470 horsepower v12 now these things have gotten very cheap i bought this one for forty four thousand dollars which is way less than its two hundred and twenty thousand dollar price tag new but that was obviously way overpriced because if you compare this to its nearest rival the porsche panamera turbo it cost like half that new but unlike the panamera turbo this thing is not hideous to look at is one of the most beautiful sedans of all time so it is an excellent all-around vehicle but it's definitely not perfect one of my main gripes with this thing is the technology inside it's pretty dated even by 2011 standards it seems like a car from around the new millennium and the backup camera is about the worst i've ever experienced as far as resolution you just can't see anything with it and backing up not too easy with the shape of the rear window kind of like a prius now those things i can't change but two gripes that i do have with this car are easily changeable the first one being the exhaust is a valved exhaust that opens up when you really get on it but it's kind of schizophrenic it has a mind of its own now you can remove a fuse in the car and make the exhaust open all the time but then it would be ridiculously loud all the time i don't want that i also don't want it off all the time because i like that noise when i'm out on open road and really want to open it up so i'd really like to have the choice and thankfully someone makes the choice where wherever it is where'd it go which is right here so attached to a fuse or a relay underneath the rear seat of this aston martin is what controls this exhaust and you can make it open and close by well enabling disabling this fuse and this kit provided by this company called oh gosh obviously they're not paying me to do this promotion because i don't even know their name uh called called cc charger dash uk sells this kit and it comes with a handy dandy fob that you can put on your key chain to open and close the exhaust at at your will so i'm going to do that and i'm going to try and do it all myself because the wizard is doing something that i really want him to do right now we'll go check on him and a couple of other projects and then i'll dive into the aston martin wizard my mercy logo has a rear end again yeah has an exhaust under there too gear works again as we saw in the previous video i've also installed your new lift line ah the one that we cut yep it's been replaced and it's bled and it works beautifully okay well i just tripped over this so still the jungle gym needs to go back in jungle jam and the hood and the interior the interior which is what you're working on right now which is why i don't want to disturb you in your wizard sweats putting a fiberglass patch over those holes ah so we kind of went back and forth on what to do with these holes one you could make a like a panel that could come off again and again uh but really if it did need to come off again you would just cut through this fiberglass very easy with a knife to cut through that right so this gives it a little bit more rigidity a little bit of help preventing cracking which we're not too worried about anyway because of the way you cut it uh but also maybe a little bit more insulation as well yes yeah i put six layers on the sixth layer i didn't fully press it i'm just letting it sit like it is that's why it's patchwork it looks white and dark but then once it's dry i can paint it black and it'll be nice and flat and perfect and contoured and nobody will know that it's been done except for the millions of people who watch this do it on youtube well i'll leave you to it all right you know my birthday's in like five days yeah i'm trying to get it done so you can have it okay well i'll go check on your assistant yes go check on him he's doing some other things okay so you probably see my prowler up in the air in the background yeah it's up in the air that we're doing things but i'm not gonna give it away yet we're gonna do that in another video there's a little hint though there's that there's other things and over here is my woody my 51 ford country squire and uh magic mike is doing some wiring he has an interesting uh foot stand there hello magic mike what's going on tyler movie do i go hoover your time whatever he's known me for way too long before all of this so michael was a recent hire to the wizards garage but i've known him for well over 10 years you described yourself as an intimate family friend i guess that's a good way to describe it um but he used to help me out of my car dealership among other things and now he works here so working with the wizard so you are rewiring my ford so you can see we have this new pretty wiring going in throughout the car here's what it looked like before and it was just literally falling apart looked horrible and it's probably the reason why nothing in the dash really works there's no way you could do any kind of diagnostic with with wiring like that so a new wiring harness is the way to go yeah since this is an old car it's not that complicated no it's been it's not too bad it's been a good learning experience especially with these old cars it's been finding out what they do and don't have is a big thing but if you didn't catch it in the last video it also has been hot rotted a little bit you see these edelbrock aluminum heads the dual carb intake it's not going to make this thing a whole lot faster but it certainly looks cool it looks really cool so i'm excited to get this car back eventually and the prowler and the murcielago sir is there any other car here that's mine um oh the bentley so the bentley still sits new injectors did not solve the misfire it is the albatross of the shop maybe someday maybe maybe someday but let's let's get back to the aston the reliable british car in the fleet so this came with some pretty detailed instructions here starting with moving the driver's seat all the way forward which is actually kind of alarming because look this is fully electric how the electric motor can move the seat all the way up i've never seen a car that can go that far up it can suffocate and kill you if the seat were to go haywire but anyway i needed to do that because the rear seat here needs to come off because there's a fuse box looking thing hiding under here and they said this carpet comes up with velcro and they're right and there's a couple of bolts that need to take out which i will do well actually i don't have to remove the seat it's all right here there's the fuse panel right here underneath the seat i remove one of those relays one of those fuses put in this replacement one and then i am in business it's like two minutes i'm already perspiring heavily goodness hello yellow red white and blue i'm counting on you okay all right i think i got it i think it is plugged in and this little fob here should now control my exhaust valve to open and close it so now the only thing i need to do is test it so this is off how about one i did it i did it all myself all myself excellent yes how's the lambo going good i got it painted the patch that i made i'm ready to slide the center console on okay well maybe i'll check out your handiwork there and then you can help me with the wheels yeah we can do that sweet wizard what are you doing watching paint dry and trying to cool off in the fan here ah okay so you have all of the fiberglass you're gonna do yep and i painted it a final coating of spray paint huh yeah that's pretty solid yep still solid not much of a difference huh yeah well obviously lamborghini factory would be best but this is this is a fine repair and it doesn't look i mean it's not like the quality for lamborghini was that good on the shell anymore there's a hair coming off of their carbon fiber there so this will all be covered up with an eye center console we'll never ever have to see it again assuming we don't have to work on that part of the transmission ever again huh no okay that'll it saved us a lot of time and a lot of money for you it did yes well uh can you help me with these wheels are you doing this all by yourself today well i mean yeah they're up in the loft have at it it's your little project okay feeling all right most work i've ever actually seen you do physical labor i'm fine i'm perfectly fine okay these wheels are awesome so one of the things i didn't like about this aston when i got it was the black wheels i'm not a big fan of black wheels they can work sometimes but a lot of times they don't like it this one was especially offensive because the inner side of it somebody painted it red to match the interior so it looked really really untasteful undignified for an aston yes it is these are much better improvement yes they're off of a newer repeat a rapid s i think they've got a really cool saw ballet look to them much better than that yeah it'll update the look of the car it'll be silver should look real nice it will i think it will we'll see it doesn't have lug bolts that's nice oh my goodness that red inside is looks like a big meaty hole it's it's not attractive no not not remotely attractive the wheel design itself just just isn't very inspiring either it's a pretty basic boring looking wheel compared to this very sharp as the wizard twerks the wheels down one thing i'm noticing is the tire size a little different on the front this is a 255 versus a 245 a skinnier tire i was hoping i could use these michelin pilot sports but that may look too meaty on the front and it may rub so we'll see not the end of the world worst case scenario i have to swap the tires from here to here but overall looking good let's pull it out in the sun to to make the final judgment here well here it is and i know every time i make a change about half the people say it's hideous but these wheels i mean they're factory isn't the front wheel looking a little chubby with the tire it does look way better you gotta admit it looks way better but probably one thing that's not open to any debate at all is the exhaust which of course i have to test drive now we'll in the video there okay here we are on prius mode with repeat i'll give it a little gas you can still definitely hear it but it's it's muffled so now let's open her up and do this again oh yeah awesome yes that is it that is money there that's awesome and i can turn it off when i pull into my neighborhood and not make everybody mad which is absolutely perfect this is an amazing car an amazing car and now the tire pressure monitor system is going haywire so i guess that needs to be programmed huh anyway one more romp oh yeah thank you for watching youwelcome to movies garage the dumbest automotive channel in all of youtube and these are my aston martins my 1998 aston martin db7 and my 2011 aston martin repeat and this has surprised me just as much as everyone else i imagine but both of these a little bit more rigidity a little bit of help preventing cracking which we're not too worried about anyway because of the way you cut it uh but also maybe a little bit more insulation as well yes yeah i put six layers on the sixth layer i didn't fully press it i'm just letting it sit like it is that's why it's patchwork it looks white and dark but then once it's dry i can paint it black and it'll be nice and flat and perfect and contoured and nobody will know that it's been done except for the millions of people who watch this do it on youtube well i'll leave you to it all right you know my birthday's in like five days yeah i'm trying to get it done so you can have it okay well i'll go check on your assistant yes go check on him he's doing some other things okay so you probably see my prowler up in the air in the background yeah it's up in the air that we're doing things but i'm not gonna give it away yet we're gonna do that in another video there's a little hint though there's that there's other things and over here is my woody my 51 ford country squire and uh magic mike is doing some wiring he has an interesting uh foot stand there hello magic mike what's going on tyler movie do i go hoover your time whatever he's known me for way too long before all of this so michael was a recent hire to the wizards garage but i've known him for well over 10 years you described yourself as an intimate family friend i guess that's a good way to describe it um but he used to help me out of my car dealership among other things and now he works here so working with the wizard so you are rewiring my ford so you can see we have this new pretty wiring going in throughout the car here's what it looked like before and it was just literally falling apart looked horrible and it's probably the reason why nothing in the dash really works there's no way you could do any kind of diagnostic with with wiring like that so a new wiring harness is the way to go yeah since this is an old car it's not that complicated no it's been it's not too bad it's been a good learning experience especially with these old cars it's been finding out what they do and don't have is a big thing but if you didn't catch it in the last video it also has been hot rotted a little bit you see these edelbrock aluminum heads the dual carb intake it's not going to make this thing a whole lot faster but it certainly looks cool it looks really cool so i'm excited to get this car back eventually and the prowler and the murcielago sir is there any other car here that's mine um oh the bentley so the bentley still sits new injectors did not solve the misfire it is the albatross of the shop maybe someday maybe maybe someday but let's let's get back to the aston the reliable british car in the fleet so this came with some pretty detailed instructions here starting with moving the driver's seat all the way forward which is actually kind of alarming because look this is fully electric how the electric motor can move the seat all the way up i've never seen a car that can go that far up it can suffocate and kill you if the seat were to go haywire but anyway i needed to do that because the rear seat here needs to come off because there's a fuse box looking thing hiding under here and they said this carpet comes up with velcro and they're right and there's a couple of bolts that need to take out which i will do well actually i don't have to remove the seat it's all right here there's the fuse panel right here underneath the seat i remove one of those relays one of those fuses put in this replacement one and then i am in business it's like two minutes i'm already perspiring heavily goodness hello yellow red white and blue i'm counting on you okay all right i think i got it i think it is plugged in and this little fob here should now control my exhaust valve to open and close it so now the only thing i need to do is test it so this is off how about one i did it i did it all myself all myself excellent yes how's the lambo going good i got it painted the patch that i made i'm ready to slide the center console on okay well maybe i'll check out your handiwork there and then you can help me with the wheels yeah we can do that sweet wizard what are you doing watching paint dry and trying to cool off in the fan here ah okay so you have all of the fiberglass you're gonna do yep and i painted it a final coating of spray paint huh yeah that's pretty solid yep still solid not much of a difference huh yeah well obviously lamborghini factory would be best but this is this is a fine repair and it doesn't look i mean it's not like the quality for lamborghini was that good on the shell anymore there's a hair coming off of their carbon fiber there so this will all be covered up with an eye center console we'll never ever have to see it again assuming we don't have to work on that part of the transmission ever again huh no okay that'll it saved us a lot of time and a lot of money for you it did yes well uh can you help me with these wheels are you doing this all by yourself today well i mean yeah they're up in the loft have at it it's your little project okay feeling all right most work i've ever actually seen you do physical labor i'm fine i'm perfectly fine okay these wheels are awesome so one of the things i didn't like about this aston when i got it was the black wheels i'm not a big fan of black wheels they can work sometimes but a lot of times they don't like it this one was especially offensive because the inner side of it somebody painted it red to match the interior so it looked really really untasteful undignified for an aston yes it is these are much better improvement yes they're off of a newer repeat a rapid s i think they've got a really cool saw ballet look to them much better than that yeah it'll update the look of the car it'll be silver should look real nice it will i think it will we'll see it doesn't have lug bolts that's nice oh my goodness that red inside is looks like a big meaty hole it's it's not attractive no not not remotely attractive the wheel design itself just just isn't very inspiring either it's a pretty basic boring looking wheel compared to this very sharp as the wizard twerks the wheels down one thing i'm noticing is the tire size a little different on the front this is a 255 versus a 245 a skinnier tire i was hoping i could use these michelin pilot sports but that may look too meaty on the front and it may rub so we'll see not the end of the world worst case scenario i have to swap the tires from here to here but overall looking good let's pull it out in the sun to to make the final judgment here well here it is and i know every time i make a change about half the people say it's hideous but these wheels i mean they're factory isn't the front wheel looking a little chubby with the tire it does look way better you gotta admit it looks way better but probably one thing that's not open to any debate at all is the exhaust which of course i have to test drive now we'll in the video there okay here we are on prius mode with repeat i'll give it a little gas you can still definitely hear it but it's it's muffled so now let's open her up and do this again oh yeah awesome yes that is it that is money there that's awesome and i can turn it off when i pull into my neighborhood and not make everybody mad which is absolutely perfect this is an amazing car an amazing car and now the tire pressure monitor system is going haywire so i guess that needs to be programmed huh anyway one more romp oh yeah thank you for watching you\n"
