webOS is Dead

HP Announces Discontinuation of WebOS

Hey guys, I've got a bit of sad news to share with you all today. Just about a few minutes ago, HP announced that they are going to be killing off webOS. This one really came out of the blue, and I'm still trying to process the news.

HP Did Buy Palm: The Makers of WebOS

HP did buy Palm, the makers of webOS, about a year ago. At the time, it seemed like a promising move, as HP was looking to expand its presence in the mobile market. And earlier this year, they had a big press conference where they announced the HP Veer, which I previously reviewed and found to be a pretty nice little phone.

HP Announced Other Devices

They also announced the HP Touchpad, which, unfortunately, didn't have the best sales in the world. However, overall it was a really solid tablet. And of course, they had the HP Pre 3, which just went up for pre-order. It's interesting to note that all these announcements were made with high hopes and expectations, but ultimately, webOS has been met with disappointment.

The Press Statement

HP reported that they plan to announce that they will discontinue operations for webOS devices specifically the Touchpad and webOS phones. They also stated that they will continue to explore options to optimize the value of webos software going forward. Reading between the lines, it's clear that basically means webOS is going to be no more.

Production of WebOS Devices Will Cease

It's likely that HP will start winding down production or may have already stopped production of all the webOS phones and tablets. What they'll do with all the Touchpads and phones that are already out, especially the Pre3, which was just coming out, remains to be seen. But one thing is certain - it's definitely not good news for webOS enthusiasts.

The Future of WebWest

On the other hand, it's possible that webWest, a variant of webOS, may live on. They may try to license webOS software or continue to develop new features and applications for existing devices. However, at this point, it's hard to say what the future holds for webOS.

A Sad Day for WebOS Fans

I have to admit that I'm actually a little bit upset with this news. I really liked webOS and was looking forward to seeing what HP did next. Seeing them just cut it out like this feels like a waste of time and resources. Think of all the Palm employees who've worked so long on webOS - they're just going to be left without a job.

Leaving a Bad Taste in My Mouth

This news leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. It's hard to understand why HP would make such a drastic decision, especially after investing so much time and effort into webOS. I'm sure many of you will have strong opinions on this topic, just like I do.

I Look Forward to Your Comments

So, I look forward to talking with you guys in the comments and hearing your thoughts on this news. What do you think? Are you disappointed that webOS is being discontinued? Do you have any theories about what might happen next? Let's discuss!
