We Are Running Out Of Space At The Shop So We Added More!

The Importance of Proper Planning and Preparation: A Personal Reflection

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how we didn't account for the weight of our new storage unit. I mean, it's not like we were expecting it to be that heavy, but at the same time, it's not like we should have seen it coming. I keep thinking about all the times we've been talking about getting more storage space and how we'd finally found a solution. But in the end, we didn't really think it through. It's just one of those things that happens when you're not careful.

As I was walking around the shop today, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride at what we've accomplished so far. The trailer is actually coming along nicely, and I'm excited to see it all finished up. The engineers are doing a great job of designing the storage unit, and I think we're really going to like having this extra space. But at the same time, I'm also thinking about all the times we've been rushing through things without really taking the time to consider every detail.

One thing that struck me today was how much our engineer team is actually doing. They're not just sitting around twiddling their thumbs; they're out there working hard to make sure everything gets done on time and within budget. I'm really grateful for them, and I know I should have appreciated it more sooner. We've been talking about getting some shelving installed, and now that the storage unit is in place, we can finally start thinking about how we're going to organize all of our tools and equipment.

I have to say, I'm a bit impressed with the reveal when we opened up the trailer. It's actually really nice, and I think it's going to be perfect for our needs. The wood floor is looking great, and the metal containers are going to come in handy for storing all of our gear. And let's not forget about the side door containers – they're going to be a lifesaver when we need to get something out quickly.

As I was inspecting the containers, I couldn't help but think about how much they would have been useful if we had just gotten them sooner. They're like little homes on wheels, and I can see why people would want to live in one of those things. But at the same time, I'm not sure I'd want to be stuck in a container for an extended period of time – it's definitely not the Ritz.

For now, though, we'll just have to make do with our storage unit and hope that it doesn't become too cluttered. We're going to need some heavy-duty shelving to get everything organized, but I'm confident that we can make it work. And who knows – maybe one day we'll be able to use the containers as a permanent storage solution.

As I was looking through some of the documents related to our storage unit, I came across something interesting. Apparently, the log history for the unit showed 33 trips on its way here from somewhere else, but all of those trips were supposed to go through before it arrived at our shop. It's not clear why none of them did, but I'm glad that the unit is finally here and ready to use.

I also found a note about some scrap metal being used for cable wires and tires on one of the previous trips. It's pretty interesting to think about how many different things are going into our storage unit before we even get started using it. And it just goes to show that there's always more to learn and discover when you're working with new equipment.

As I'm writing this, I realize that there's still a lot of work to be done on the shop. We need to clean up the back area behind the storage unit and make sure we can access everything easily. And let's not forget about getting some gravel along the side – it'll look nice and help with drainage. But for now, I'm just happy that we're finally starting to get our act together.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enall right the lift is all wired up she has fluid yep should work should theoretically we are testing it with the NSX yeah the least valuable car in theet to drop off our hopefully it all works I think we know what we're doing here go for it oh yeah the new Ben pack has officially lifted its first car got everything torqued down everything's good to go no leak so far nice all right on the first set of l h yeah well didn't fall off no pretty stout luckily our electrician come knocked that all out today yeah luckily we had a certified electrician coming yep that for using for us real quick yeah he came in here knocked it all out yeah left a couple crumpled up Twisted T's as he left but yeah we gave we gave him a pat on the back but it works yeah it works solid and should be good to go so now we just need to work on getting all the air out of it and adjust these cables a little more so that the arms are adjusted height wise correctly should be ready for service so pretty decent so I wanted to do a quick recap from the last last video I was talking about some storage issues we were running into cuz as you guys saw we had that new two poost lift go up and we're trying to make some more room for more toolboxes possibly more Fab tables uh we have some different machines on the way so we're trying to clear up some space in the shop and get a little reorganized and we have a ton of cars here we definitely do have a lot of room I saw some comments on the last video talking about some things we could do outside here that would help you know improve our storage give us some more room for the cars and parts and stuff like that but like I was saying that last video my goal is to really try to find a bigger piece of land or another bigger shop somewhere that we could just drive to and kind of expand that way because I'm trying to save as much as I can to invest into that and one of the big things I don't want to do is just invest a ton into this property and be limited with the space that we have here so I think we've done a good job uh trying to clean stuff up and make space as you guys saw we got this car port so I'm trying to keep a lot of the cars tucked up under here a lot of you guys suggested we could expand the shop or uh get some bigger shipping containers out here and kind of stack them and do like a big uh you know carport in between two shipping containers all that stuff would be really cool guys but we're just really limited on space with what we got without making it too cluttered so you can see right beside the shop we got our little shed you know the shop has all the electrical on the side here the AC unit we have this permanent electrical box right here we'd have to probably pull some crazy permits to add another building here whereas like just putting up this simple car port you know that was a really simple deal we got coverage for almost six cars right here we need this space right here for our trailers because if we tried to put anything right here we'd have nowhere for our trailers to go I mean they could maybe sit out in the middle of the yard but I just don't want stuff just hanging out right there in the middle of the yard we try to keep some things tucked away we got the jet boat the jet skis we got two trucks the airbat and another car back there that is completely filled and we have cars laying around everywhere and I'm going to show you guys inside the shop real quick so we're trying to get a lot of this stuff cleared out in front of the new lift we have these Transmissions man manifolds crankshaft box of miscellaneous stuff all kinds of stuff up over here we got the sidekick rotary we have all these tires stacked up in this corner right here uh here it's not too cluttered but you know we got tires up on this thing we have tires hiding back here behind our bathroom and then if you guys look up on top right here we have a ton of merch stuff a ton of parts that is getting completely filled up as you can see it is pretty cluttered up here we just have a ton of stuff that has piled up over the years of doing all of these builds and projects and this is actually surprisingly after a pretty big clean we went up here and we got rid of a lot of stuff that we didn't need threw a ton of stuff away a lot of this stuff we want to hang on to because it is valuable and there's things up here that we plan on using in the future I mean we got carbon fiber doors the Tesla interior I want to keep all the harnesses and electronics out of the doors in case we move forward with making the platy more refined a lot of this stuff isn't trash so we could definitely reorganize it with what we have and make it nice and clean but we're going to continue to acquire more and more stuff as projects continue so we need to go ahead and do something about it and try to get everything tidied up this is where we fulfill all of our merchandise 1320 video actually just did a quick shop tour with us and we went over all of this but this is all filled up with merchandise that's our little fulfillment room in here we have some more parts as well we're trying to keep this space pretty organized we could probably add some more here for storage we actually just cleaned this room up and it's looking pretty good here got some fittings we got those shelves over there and for the most part this was where we were keeping all of our parts that we were using more frequently um but we're just starting to really get filled up here so I've decided to get a storage unit and we're going to put it onto the side of the shop and we're hoping that can help give us a little bit more room for a lot of these parts so it's not you know the biggest upgrade but it is starting to play a factor here so we're trying to do our best to get everything is organized as possible not a super exciting thing to do but you guys might be interested in it so we're going to go ahead and see what we need to do to prep and get a storage unit on the side of the shop here all right guys today we're adding a little bit more storage to the shop here as you guys saw in the last video I was kind of talking about how we're limited on Space especially with the new lift going up we have some cars that are going outside we have some engines and transmissions and other parts in the shop that we would like to find a home for so we have decided to go ahead and get a shipping container and put it on the the side of the shop here and kind of turn it into a little extra storage area for us we can put some shelves in there we went ahead and cleared this area out and if you look behind me we got a pile of gravel this is 2 yds of gravel not sure if it's going to be enough but my calculation said it will be depends on how much filling we have to do because we have to level some stuff out over here and then we got a tractor here behind me this is Ryan's dad he's letting us borrow this thing to get this all leveled out over here and we can get it all set up and ready for the container to be dropped off and sat on there but we want to make sure that this is nice and level get the load evenly distributed because there is also something that we're worried about back here if you guys come look at this I don't think we've really shown the side of the shop too much this is where we keep a lot of our secret projects if we have some cars we're hiding we tuck them away back here so it will no longer be a hiding spot for us but the shop does have a septic tank and that guy is right here and it's about 300 gon septic tank I talked to the Old owner David just to kind of get an idea of how deep it is and like where it actually is under there he said it doesn't come too far away from that lid but it is something we do need to be careful about because the storage container fully loaded up with parts and stuff is going to be really heavy and we don't want to Cave any of this in or break our septic tank which would suck and also learning about septic tank systems we learned that there is a drain field connected to that and a lot of that runs underneath right here with a whole bunch of tubes but all that stuff is about 4 ft deep under the dirt shouldn't be an issue but we just want to make sure that we're not messing up any of that that stuff we're not experts here I'm sure we're going to see comments on things we can do better or things we're doing wrong but we're doing it either way so you can see right here we got this kind of white spray painted line on the side of the shop here that's where our container is going to be we're going to try to hug It Up by this fence and we'll have a nice little walkway so we can still get back here all of this space behind the container will be open we'll clean all this up so we can put some stuff back here that will stay outside and we can get back here in case we need to service the AC unit or get to the septic tank we'll have this 2 and 1/2 to 3T wide channel right here next to the shop that we can walk through to get by it but for right now we're going to go ahead and get into the tractor and we got to go ahead and level this out right here because the ground really tapers off right down here to the fence so we need to get that filled get some of this dirt moved around and then we're going to go ahead and put the gravel uh on top of all that just to help with drainage and stuff like that help clean it up and then we're hoping that the face of the storage container will be right here flush with the front of the shop and we're going to do a 20t long storage container a typical storage container is 40 ft long but we obviously can't go that far back so the 20 footer should fit right here pretty good and we'll be able to store a lot of stuff in it hopefully so we're going to go ahead and get scraping and get leveling and uh then we'll call the guys to get the container on the way once we're ready for it there we go oh he's just Ching dud you got your practic in yeah I tried I was taking too long so pops let Pops handle it n so we got it pretty leveled out here we had to add some gravel to get that side up by the fence there we're going to go ahead and roll out this uh weed barrier we're going to cover all of this up so we can put some gravel on top of that we get it fully leveled out and we should be good to set our container down call it a day all right we got the we block laid down we got the gravel going down there's a good chance we're going to have to get some more but we're going to get it all over here and see what we're working with got the last bucket of gravel going down we still have a little bit left over there but last Full Bucket and it looks like we'll just have enough to get by here so we're going to go ahead and try to level all this out make sure that we do in fact have enough and we go ahead and set our container down all right guys we got the gravel all laid out here we got it as level as we could like I said we are definitely not experts here but I think we did a pretty good job for a couple hours worth of work here we moved as much dirt over as we needed to it still has a slight slope going away from the shop so water drains it's still going away from us and not pulling up in the center here which is good but we got all the gravel laid out we did run out just a little bit back here so I want to finish this out behind the shipping container we'll put some more of the weed block right back here we'll get some buckets to gravel we'll kind of walk out and around and just get that all finished up because it would be nice to have this space available if we have some like old tires or some stuff that we want to keep outside that we're not too worried about this will make some grid storage back here but we're able to get this area done up right here and the shipping container should be here shortly and we're going to do our best to kind of sneak it in back here we're going to try to keep it as tucked up to that fence as possible so we can still walk in between it and the shop to get to the back of it and we'll have some more storage for the shop which I'm pretty excited about so you know freaking construction workers out here look at this beautiful yeah looks great there's going to be a lot of comments saying that we did everything wrong but you know what it's going to work not too worried about it it's just a shipping container we just need some more storage this will do there she is our used 20 foot shipping container I mean it's a lot bigger than I thought it was not too bad that's going to be plenty of room you know there's a couple different tones of orange on there but this is but this one was in pretty good shape to the other ones that they had I actually haven't seen this one up close because it was sitting up on top of another one but she looked like she was in good shape there wasn't too much rust on it no big old dents in the side cuz some of them were really beat up but this one looked like this one looked like it was in the best shape compared to the others that were used thing's a unit looks like a metal box oh yeah there she goes all right that's probably good yep look look at our Ro yeah that that was not rated for the weight we didn't account for the weight yeah we should have accounted for that one of the engineers didn't get that dude this trailer man this trailer is sick I don't think we're ever getting that thing out no uh-uh oh yeah oh she's settling heck yeah perfect dude look at that we can walk right you know we just we just got to fill this back in a little bit so yeah we'll we'll shovel yeah see we know what we were doing the whole time good boy oh the reveal introducing my new too dark to see oh dude that was nice that's pretty good nice wood floor hit the front of this with a little rattle can should rip headphone users but he's in pretty good shape dude dude it smells like it was on a boat it does it smells like it was at Sea though dude nice wood floor yeah everything's clean is I think I made a good choice so yeah the plan will be to get some shelving on either side depending on what we want to do but for sure at Le shelves on one side and then maybe engines and transmissions on the other but if we do some nice heavy duty shelves we can actually lift some Transmissions up onto the shelves we have a ton of parts that are stacked up above our office space that can come into here just so much stuff laying around that we can get into this storage unit that will really help us clean up the shop so this will be nice to have for sure need help moving this getting out putting a bigger one there adding another one we got side door containers too side door four door side door dang so we put one of those right there you know some they could make us a container home we get some land abely I'll just live in one of I'm going to show you the containers we'll direct you to who can build it for you okay so you provide the containers and then we just need a guy that can put a bed and couch inside which we can probably do I can put a bed in couchage that I can just put a bed in that thing hey why you got an upgrade all right man so long to the little shed dude apprciate it man see you guys thank you you want to go look had an empty metal box it's a nice metal box at least inspect you know it's pretty solid just an empty metal box but we should be able to put a lot of crap in there yeah show me the back of this thing when I was in there I'm not going to lie when I was like looking at them and they're showing me around I like walked to the back of one I was like dude these guys could just lock me up and Ransom that's how you get kidnapped there's no way out of one of these all right start loading Motors in here throw them in yep I mean we have to get some shelving to find some industrial shelving anybody local let us know indet looking for some shelves but until we get the shelves I'm at least going to go throw the motors in it for now get them out of the way clean it out first yeah give her a good sweeping make sure there's no Corona virus in there what is this dude you got secret information here sir this is confidential yeah does it say where it came from okay yeah maybe these are all of its trips I'm sure it just didn't get used once it's pretty beat up yeah so a lot of scrap metal okay so it was used for cable wires used tires a lot of scrap metal transport PVC pipes lighting and Transformer hold on used PVC pipes yes this had poop in it according to this paper she made 33 trips on her log history and she is ending at our house unless it ended here at 30 that's why it's highlighted and these were planned and never went through who knows but she's here now and she's going to hold our spare Honda parts wait reduction all right it is dark out now but I got a K series in here just for reference got our tucked away in the corner along with some more to come but we just got to go ahead and get some shelves and we can start filling this thing up here and start getting some of the Clutter out of the shop but really happy with it we just got to get some more gravel along the side here and clean up the back area behind it a little bit more get this all filled out looking nice in case we need to keep anything outside back behind here we can still service our septic tank we can still get to the AC unit no problem but uh yeah guys that's about it we got a storage unit next to the shop that's pretty much all we accomplished in today's video but I appreciate you guys watching if you're still watching at this point you're a real one so thank you for watching and we'll see you guys laterall right the lift is all wired up she has fluid yep should work should theoretically we are testing it with the NSX yeah the least valuable car in theet to drop off our hopefully it all works I think we know what we're doing here go for it oh yeah the new Ben pack has officially lifted its first car got everything torqued down everything's good to go no leak so far nice all right on the first set of l h a lot of this stuff isn't trash so we could definitely reorganize it with what we have and make it nice and clean but we're going to continue to acquire more and more stuff as projects continue so we need to go ahead and do something about it and try to get everything tidied up this is where we fulfill all of our merchandise 1320 video actually just did a quick shop tour with us and we went over all of this but this is all filled up with merchandise that's our little fulfillment room in here we have some more parts as well we're trying to keep this space pretty organized we could probably add some more here for storage we actually just cleaned this room up and it's looking pretty good here got some fittings we got those shelves over there and for the most part this was where we were keeping all of our parts that we were using more frequently um but we're just starting to really get filled up here so I've decided to get a storage unit and we're going to put it onto the side of the shop and we're hoping that can help give us a little bit more room for a lot of these parts so it's not you know the biggest upgrade but it is starting to play a factor here so we're trying to do our best to get everything is organized as possible not a super exciting thing to do but you guys might be interested in it so we're going to go ahead and see what we need to do to prep and get a storage unit on the side of the shop here all right guys today we're adding a little bit more storage to the shop here as you guys saw in the last video I was kind of talking about how we're limited on Space especially with the new lift going up we have some cars that are going outside we have some engines and transmissions and other parts in the shop that we would like to find a home for so we have decided to go ahead and get a shipping container and put it on the the side of the shop here and kind of turn it into a little extra storage area for us we can put some shelves in there we went ahead and cleared this area out and if you look behind me we got a pile of gravel this is 2 yds of gravel not sure if it's going to be enough but my calculation said it will be depends on how much filling we have to do because we have to level some stuff out over here and then we got a tractor here behind me this is Ryan's dad he's letting us borrow this thing to get this all leveled out over here and we can get it all set up and ready for the container to be dropped off and sat on there but we want to make sure that this is nice and level get the load evenly distributed because there is also something that we're worried about back here if you guys come look at this I don't think we've really shown the side of the shop too much this is where we keep a lot of our secret projects if we have some cars we're hiding we tuck them away back here so it will no longer be a hiding spot for us but the shop does have a septic tank and that guy is right here and it's about 300 gon septic tank I talked to the Old owner David just to kind of get an idea of how deep it is and like where it actually is under there he said it doesn't come too far away from that lid but it is something we do need to be careful about because the storage container fully loaded up with parts and stuff is going to be really heavy and we don't want to Cave any of this in or break our septic tank which would suck and also learning about septic tank systems we learned that there is a drain field connected to that and a lot of that runs underneath right here with a whole bunch of tubes but all that stuff is about 4 ft deep under the dirt shouldn't be an issue but we just want to make sure that we're not messing up any of that that stuff we're not experts here I'm sure we're going to see comments on things we can do better or things we're doing wrong but we're doing it either way so you can see right here we got this kind of white spray painted line on the side of the shop here that's where our container is going to be we're going to try to hug It Up by this fence and we'll have a nice little walkway so we can still get back here all of this space behind the container will be open we'll clean all this up so we can put some stuff back here that will stay outside and we can get back here in case we need to service the AC unit or get to the septic tank we'll have this 2 and 1/2 to 3T wide channel right here next to the shop that we can walk through to get by it but for right now we're going to go ahead and get into the tractor and we got to go ahead and level this out right here because the ground really tapers off right down here to the fence so we need to get that filled get some of this dirt moved around and then we're going to go ahead and put the gravel uh on top of all that just to help with drainage and stuff like that help clean it up and then we're hoping that the face of the storage container will be right here flush with the front of the shop and we're going to do a 20t long storage container a typical storage container is 40 ft long but we obviously can't go that far back so the 20 footer should fit right here pretty good and we'll be able to store a lot of stuff in it hopefully so we're going to go ahead and get scraping and get leveling and uh then we'll call the guys to get the container on the way once we're ready for it there we go oh he's just Ching dud you got your practic in yeah I tried I was taking too long so pops let Pops handle it n so we got it pretty leveled out here we had to add some gravel to get that side up by the fence there we're going to go ahead and roll out this uh weed barrier we're going to cover all of this up so we can put some gravel on top of that we get it fully leveled out and we should be good to set our container down call it a day all right we got the we block laid down we got the gravel going down there's a good chance we're going to have to get some more but we're going to get it all over here and see what we're working with got the last bucket of gravel going down we still have a little bit left over there but last Full Bucket and it looks like we'll just have enough to get by here so we're going to go ahead and try to level all this out make sure that we do in fact have enough and we go ahead and set our container down all right guys we got the gravel all laid out here we got it as level as we could like I said we are definitely not experts here but I think we did a pretty good job for a couple hours worth of work here we moved as much dirt over as we needed to it still has a slight slope going away from the shop so water drains it's still going away from us and not pulling up in the center here which is good but we got all the gravel laid out we did run out just a little bit back here so I want to finish this out behind the shipping container we'll put some more of the weed block right back here we'll get some buckets to gravel we'll kind of walk out and around and just get that all finished up because it would be nice to have this space available if we have some like old tires or some stuff that we want to keep outside that we're not too worried about this will make some grid storage back here but we're able to get this area done up right here and the shipping container should be here shortly and we're going to do our best to kind of sneak it in back here we're going to try to keep it as tucked up to that fence as possible so we can still walk in between it and the shop to get to the back of it and we'll have some more storage for the shop which I'm pretty excited about so you know freaking construction workers out here look at this beautiful yeah looks great there's going to be a lot of comments saying that we did everything wrong but you know what it's going to work not too worried about it it's just a shipping container we just need some more storage this will do there she is our used 20 foot shipping container I mean it's a lot bigger than I thought it was not too bad that's going to be plenty of room you know there's a couple different tones of orange on there but this is but this one was in pretty good shape to the other ones that they had I actually haven't seen this one up close because it was sitting up on top of another one but she looked like she was in good shape there wasn't too much rust on it no big old dents in the side cuz some of them were really beat up but this one looked like this one looked like it was in the best shape compared to the others that were used thing's a unit looks like a metal box oh yeah there she goes all right that's probably good yep look look at our Ro yeah that that was not rated for the weight we didn't account for the weight yeah we should have accounted for that one of the engineers didn't get that dude this trailer man this trailer is sick I don't think we're ever getting that thing out no uh-uh oh yeah oh she's settling heck yeah perfect dude look at that we can walk right you know we just we just got to fill this back in a little bit so yeah we'll we'll shovel yeah see we know what we were doing the whole time good boy oh the reveal introducing my new too dark to see oh dude that was nice that's pretty good nice wood floor hit the front of this with a little rattle can should rip headphone users but he's in pretty good shape dude dude it smells like it was on a boat it does it smells like it was at Sea though dude nice wood floor yeah everything's clean is I think I made a good choice so yeah the plan will be to get some shelving on either side depending on what we want to do but for sure at Le shelves on one side and then maybe engines and transmissions on the other but if we do some nice heavy duty shelves we can actually lift some Transmissions up onto the shelves we have a ton of parts that are stacked up above our office space that can come into here just so much stuff laying around that we can get into this storage unit that will really help us clean up the shop so this will be nice to have for sure need help moving this getting out putting a bigger one there adding another one we got side door containers too side door four door side door dang so we put one of those right there you know some they could make us a container home we get some land abely I'll just live in one of I'm going to show you the containers we'll direct you to who can build it for you okay so you provide the containers and then we just need a guy that can put a bed and couch inside which we can probably do I can put a bed in couchage that I can just put a bed in that thing hey why you got an upgrade all right man so long to the little shed dude apprciate it man see you guys thank you you want to go look had an empty metal box it's a nice metal box at least inspect you know it's pretty solid just an empty metal box but we should be able to put a lot of crap in there yeah show me the back of this thing when I was in there I'm not going to lie when I was like looking at them and they're showing me around I like walked to the back of one I was like dude these guys could just lock me up and Ransom that's how you get kidnapped there's no way out of one of these all right start loading Motors in here throw them in yep I mean we have to get some shelving to find some industrial shelving anybody local let us know indet looking for some shelves but until we get the shelves I'm at least going to go throw the motors in it for now get them out of the way clean it out first yeah give her a good sweeping make sure there's no Corona virus in there what is this dude you got secret information here sir this is confidential yeah does it say where it came from okay yeah maybe these are all of its trips I'm sure it just didn't get used once it's pretty beat up yeah so a lot of scrap metal okay so it was used for cable wires used tires a lot of scrap metal transport PVC pipes lighting and Transformer hold on used PVC pipes yes this had poop in it according to this paper she made 33 trips on her log history and she is ending at our house unless it ended here at 30 that's why it's highlighted and these were planned and never went through who knows but she's here now and she's going to hold our spare Honda parts wait reduction all right it is dark out now but I got a K series in here just for reference got our tucked away in the corner along with some more to come but we just got to go ahead and get some shelves and we can start filling this thing up here and start getting some of the Clutter out of the shop but really happy with it we just got to get some more gravel along the side here and clean up the back area behind it a little bit more get this all filled out looking nice in case we need to keep anything outside back behind here we can still service our septic tank we can still get to the AC unit no problem but uh yeah guys that's about it we got a storage unit next to the shop that's pretty much all we accomplished in today's video but I appreciate you guys watching if you're still watching at this point you're a real one so thank you for watching and we'll see you guys later\n"
