How-To - Jailbreak Apple TV 4 (9.0.x) for Free!

How to Jailbreak Your Apple TV: A Step-by-Step Guide

To begin the process of jailbreaking your Apple TV, you need to first check your TV OS version. As shown in the video, the current version is 9.0, which is the only compatible version for jailbreaking. If your Apple TV isn't running one of these versions, you will not be able to jailbreak it and may need to purchase a new device with the older software.

It's also important to turn off automatic updates on your Apple TV, as this would prevent you from being able to jailbreak it. Additionally, you'll need to note down your IP address, which is necessary for SSHing into your Apple TV later in the process.

The only tool available initially for jailbreaking an Apple TV is SSH (Secure Shell). While there's no Cydia or GUI interface to enjoy at this stage, this tool is mainly geared towards developers. However, don't worry – a lot of tools and features are coming down the pipeline soon.

To begin the jailbreak process, you'll need a USB Type-C cable to connect your Apple TV to your Mac. This can be purchased cheaply from Amazon. Now, let's move on to the necessary steps for jailbreaking your Apple TV.

**Step 1: Downloading the Pong Go Jailbreak Tool**

The first step in the process is to download the Pong Go jailbreak tool for Apple TV. As shown in the video, this tool is version 1.0 and can be downloaded from Pong Google I/O. Save the file to your desktop.

**Step 2: Downloading Xcode**

Before proceeding with the jailbreak process, it's recommended that you download Xcode. You may already have it installed on your Mac, but if not, download it from the Mac App Store – it's a free download. This will be necessary for launching the jailbreak tool later in the process.

**Step 3: Downloading iOS App Designer**

You'll also need to download an iOS app designer, which can be saved to your desktop. You can find more information on this tool by visiting the post on nine-to-five Mac.

**Preparing Your Apple TV for Jailbreaking**

Before proceeding with the jailbreak process, you'll need to prepare your Apple TV for the task. This includes turning off automatic updates and noting down your IP address.

Let's move on to the next step in the process.

The Process of Jailbreaking an Apple TV

Once all the necessary tools are downloaded, launch Xcode and add your Apple ID with side loading privileges. You can do this by going to developer.apple.com and following these steps:

* Go to the members center page

* Log in with your Apple ID or create a new one if you don't have an existing account

* Agree to the terms of service

Now that you have added your Apple ID, let's move on to the next step.

**Step 4: Creating a Provisioning Profile**

To jailbreak your Apple TV using Xcode, you'll need to create a provisioning profile. This can be done by opening up iOS App Signer and following these steps:

* Click "Open"

* Browse to the directory where you extracted the Pong Go folder

* Select the Payload and select the .ipa file

* Choose your signing certificate and provisioning profile (the one you just created)

* Click "Start" to begin the process

**Step 5: Packaging the IPA**

Once you've created the provisioning profile, it's time to package the IPA. This can be done by saving the file as is or changing its location to a different directory.

**Step 6: Launching the Jailbreak Tool**

With all the necessary files prepared and packaged, launch the jailbreak tool using Xcode. Click "Window" > "Devices", select your Apple TV, and then click the "+" sign below the list of installed apps. Select the IPA file you just created to deploy it to your Apple TV.

**Step 7: Jailbreaking Your Apple TV**

Now that the IPA has been deployed to your Apple TV, all you need to do is launch this app to jailbreak your Apple TV. This process should take only a second, and once complete, you'll be able to log in or SSH into your Apple TV.

Jailbreaking Your Apple TV: Logging In

Once you've successfully jailbroken your Apple TV, it's time to log in. To do this, open up a terminal window on your Mac and type the following commands:

* ssh space root at

* Enter your password (alpine)

* Browse through the file structure of your Apple TV.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhow did jailbreak your apple TV fuller what is up ladies and gentlemen I'm going to show you how to jailbreak the fourth generation Apple TV first thing you want to do is you want to go to Settings General about and check your TV OS version here it's 9.0 this only works with TV OS 9.0 and 9.0 point one if your Apple TV isn't running one of those versions you cannot jailbreak you'll have to buy a new Apple TV and hope that it has the old software on it you also want to go in and turn off automatic updates so it doesn't update to a new version of TV OS because that would be bad also you want to notate your IP address we'll talk about that later that's going to allow us to SSH into our Apple TV now speaking of SSH that is the only tool that's available initially there is no Cydia or any sort of GUI interface that you're going to be able to enjoy so this is mainly geared towards developers although you can expect a lot of tools and things that come down the pipeline soon now another important thing to mention is that you will need a USB type-c cable to connect your Apple TV to your Mac you can buy that USB type-c cable cheaply from Amazon I'll have a link in the description ok now let me tell you some things you're going to need first of all you're going to need the pong go jailbreak tool for apple TV it's a 1.0 right now you can download that from pong Google i/o will have the link on the post on nine-to-five Mac you want to save that to your desktop alright so we just go to select desktop and save alright so now we want to download Xcode now you probably actually want to do this first because it takes forever to download hopefully you already have it but go ahead and download Xcode from the Mac App Store that is a free download and lastly we want to download iOS app designer again you want to save this to your desktop I'll have a link to it in the post on nine-to-five Mac alright so let's just save that to our desktop alright so I think that's all the stuff we need to get started now let's get this show on the road it's going to take a little while to download the pongo tool here because it's so popular right now but it should be fast for you now let's go ahead and launch Xcode and get started because this is really where it all happens for so we're going to launch Xcode now you will need an Apple ID with side loading privileges and you can get that by going to developer.apple.com and going into the members center and then basically link in your Apple ID and agreeing to the terms but basically you want to go in and add that Apple ID into Xcode into the accounts under the Xcode preferences and you can like I said go to members Center on Apple's developer page log in with your Apple ID or create an Apple ID if you don't have one then sign in here and then you'll be able to agree to terms which gives you side loading privileges it isn't a paid account but it does allow you to do what we need to do here all right so I have my account logged into Xcode now I can just close out of the accounts section now we're going to want to go back to Xcode we want to go to file and we want to go to new and then when we go to new we want to select project all right so you want to select application under TV OS and then choose single view application and click Next then for product name I'm just going to put jailbreak organization name you just put your name organization identifier you can put something like column test jailbreak and then leave everything else the same then click Next and then you just want to click create you can leave everything else as is you can leave it as desktop if it is click create alright now you're going to see this screen here now what you want to do is click where it says product and then click destination and select your Apple TV may say OS version lower than deployment target that's fine this is assuming your Apple TV is connected with the USB type-c cable choose 9.04 deployment target to clear up that little error and now we want to select under team the Apple ID that we linked under the accounts in preferences and then click fix issue it's going to resolve the code signing issues and now our screen should look like this all right so we're almost there folks so now we can just minimize Xcode we'll come back to it later now we're going to focus our attention on the PACU jailbreak in the iOS app signer app so let's just extract both if you haven't done so already there's bungu and here is ios app center now let's just open up iOS app signer click open all right now input file you want to click browse here then you want to browse to your desktop and select the pawn blue folder that we extract it select payload and select a TV IP a click open alright and then signing certificate you want to choose your Apple ID and then in provisioning profile we want to select the one we just created the bundle ID the conduct test jailbreak three at least for me maybe a little different for you depending on how you named it select that alright and then click start and then for save as you want to just keep it as is a TV IP a choose the location though change that to desktop and then click Save alright so it's packaging the IPA now it's created that IPA which is right on your desktop so we can close out of iOS app signer now now let's just open up Xcode again and then we want to go to window and then go to devices and then click your Apple TV and then click the little plus sign right under installed apps and then select your IPA file that you just created there we go click open now it's deploying that bungu jailbreak tool to the Apple TV just like this so now guess what all you need to do is launch this app to jailbreak your apple TV super simple super easy this only takes a second jailbreak successful alright so we can get out of this by hitting menu on the Siri remote and now we can actually login or SSH into our Apple TV now I'm going to open up a terminal type ssh space root at and then your Wi-Fi IP address put the password in which is alpine and now you can see i'm browsing the apple tv's file structure so ladies and
