Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom Hands-On

CES 2017: Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom Takes Center Stage

I'm Michael Josh and you're watching Gadget Matt, we're here at CES 2017 in Las Vegas to take a look at Asus's first smartphone with two rear cameras - this is our Zenfone 3 Zoom. This device sets itself apart from every other Zenfone at that time with its more premium build. It came with an aluminum frame and genuine leather back cover, which was a unique feature at the time. Its successor, the Zenfone 3 Zoom, adopts the design of mid-range phones and has the same 2.5 D glass front metal unibody build and TENA band starting across the back of the phone. A square fingerprint sensor is also located on its back, which provides added security for users.

The phone comes in three colors: silver, rose gold, and a new navy black finish that has a subtle blue tint to it. This design change is sure to appeal to those looking for a stylish device without sacrificing functionality. The Zenfone 3 Zoom is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, the same chip found on the original Zenfone 3. Gaming performance and multitasking are still top-notch even when playing graphics-intensive games like Asphalt 8 or NBA 2K series. This means that users can enjoy smooth gameplay without any lag or slowdown.

Memory and storage will vary per region, but available configurations are up to 4 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of internal storage, which is expandable via a microSD card of up to 2 terabytes. Another notable feature of the Zenfone 3 Zoom is its 5000 milliamp hour battery, which is the largest battery capacity seen on any Zenfone 3 model. In fact, it's even larger than the Zenfone 3 Max. This means that users can enjoy a full day's use without needing to recharge their device.

The Zenfone 3 Zoom also boasts a 5.5-inch Full HD display, which provides clear and vibrant visuals for watching videos or browsing the web. With its moderate usage, the phone is expected to last close to two whole days on a single charge. The camera capabilities of the Zenfone 3 Zoom are another area where it shines. It features a 13-megapixel main camera, which is equipped with Asus's "Super Pixel" technology that can improve light sensitivity up to 2 times. This means that users can capture high-quality photos even in low-light conditions.

The Zenfone 3 Zoom also features a screen flash feature that turns the entire screen bright for low-light situations. This feature provides an added layer of convenience for users who want to take photos or browse the web without any issues. Another notable feature of the device is its dual camera system, which works similarly to that found on the iPhone 7 Plus. The main wide-angle shots are handled by one camera, while the other four handle optical zoom up to 2.3 times. This allows users to get much closer to their subject without sacrificing image quality.

The cameras on the Zenfone 3 Zoom focus fast even while switching between the two modes. We've tested plenty of other phones over the past year, and the Zenfone 3 Zoom doesn't rank among the best in terms of camera performance. However, results are still pretty impressive, as can be seen in these sample shots. Asus reps tell us that the Zenfone 3 Zoom will start rolling out in February and should retail for roughly $400 US dollars.
