The Romance Genre: A Review of the Latest Releases

When it comes to romance novels, there are countless options available in the market. However, some books stand out from the rest due to their unique blend of emotions, compelling characters, and engaging storylines. In this article, we will discuss three recent releases in the romance genre that have captured our attention.

Firstly, let's talk about "The Museum of You" by Sarah Penner. This book follows the story of a young woman who discovers a mysterious museum in her hometown that seems to be a reflection of her own past. The main character is not only fascinated by forensics but also struggles with the societal norms of Victorian times, which restrict women from pursuing careers in this field. Her uncle, an expert in forensics, teaches her more about the subject, and they soon find themselves entangled in solving a series of murders that took place during Jack the Ripper's reign. The romance is a major part of this book, with Thomas Cresswell being a particularly compelling character.

Another book that caught our attention is "Beach Read" by Emily Henry. This adult romance novel delves into the emotional lives of its characters as they navigate love, loss, and self-discovery. The protagonist, a writer struggling to cope with her father's death, finds solace in his Michigan cabin and meets a handsome writer who challenges her perceptions of romance. As they exchange stories and ideas, their initial animosity turns into a deep affection for each other.

Lastly, we have "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green, which is often regarded as one of the best romance novels of all time. The story follows Hazel and Augustus, two teenagers who meet at a cancer support group. Their relationship is complex, with both characters struggling to cope with the harsh realities of life. John Green's writing is beautiful, poignant, and evocative, making this book an emotional rollercoaster that will leave you breathless.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: eneveryone it's hailey and today i wanted to talk about some of my favorite romantic reads so today's video is kindly sponsored by skillshare thank you so much to them for working with me once again i thought it would be really appropriate to take this time since we are near valentine's day to talk about some of my favorite just swoon-worthy romances now these aren't all necessarily of the romance genre i do kind of just have a variety of books here i have some fantasies in here i don't think i have any historical fiction oh my gosh i forgot to grab that book i will grab that in a second but i just kind of went to my shelves and i was like which books have the romances that make me swoon no matter what the genre is just a beautiful romance that i love to watch blossom and it was one of my favorite parts of the book aside from the plot and things like that i just loved the romance and watching that couple come together and their romance blossom so i have a pretty big list i started off with a shorter list and it just kept on expanding as i kept on thinking about more books so we have a ton of books to talk about today from a wide variety of genres and also age ranges these aren't all adult or why a i've got a little bit of everything here so i have done a couple of videos in the past about more romantic reads so i'll have those linked down below for you guys if you wanted some more romance recommendations there's just something about romance reads that it's just so comforting to me like it just like warms my heart i think that's really what it is so particularly when times are tough i do love reading a good romance because it just makes me feel happy and swoon and all of that jazz so without further ado let's just get into some of my favorite romantic reads i'm not talking about these in any particular order but i am going to start off with the book that i just remembered because i'm sure you guys can guess when i was talking about a historical fiction that i was thinking of with romance and i was like i don't have any historical fiction well i thought of one that i can't believe i forgot but that is lovely war by julie berry this was my favorite read of 2020. i absolutely fell in love with it and it is indeed a love story so it is a love story set at the time of world war one and you follow two different romances that are blossoming at a really difficult time obviously like when the world is being torn apart by war and these characters meet right before the war so there is just a lot tearing them apart but what like sets this book apart from other romantic historical fictions that i've read which i feel like i really haven't read that many i feel like this is like the one that comes to mind i guess with historical fictions the romance plotline never really sticks out to me but i'm probably forgetting some but anyways this book brings the greek gods into it so it is a love story that is told by the greek gods particularly aphrodite takes a forefront in it and it just is such an interesting concept and oh the love stories like i just was rooting for these characters from the very beginning and my heart ached for them the entire time it is totally a really heartbreaking love story but one that i think is definitely worth the read and a little bit different because of that greek element to it but also because of the element of what was i trying to say oh being a historical fiction well my brain is everywhere next i wanted to talk about the book that i have read the most recently and that is you should see me in a crown by leah johnson so this book i actually will be talking about in a recent reads video very soon i have filmed it it's just going to be coming out after this video but this was so so so cute i loved it so much like it just was filled with a character that you couldn't help but root for and root for her romance story so you follow liz and liz is trying to be prom queen which is like a huge thing in the town that she lives in she lives in a conservative town where this prong queen thing is like taken to the max so it's this giant competition and she enters because she needs the scholarship money that if she won she would be awarded but there's a new girl in school and she ends up starting to catch feelings for her so you have a female female romance set against the backdrop of a lot of drama with this prom competition it's just a very multi-layered story but you have this adorable romance at the forefront the chemistry between these two characters was absolutely beautiful totally jumped off the page and i was just rooting for them to get together the entire time and i just loved seeing these two girls come together against the backdrop of this conservative town that really doesn't want them to be together like there's actually a rule that they talk about in the beginning of the prom thing where you can't take someone of the same sex to prom which is super messed up and like there's just a lot of antiquity antique i can't think of the word but a lot of old rules that these characters are coming to shake up and i loved watching that so such a great story definitely a heartwarming romantic read and perfect for around valentine's day i honestly could not talk about romantic reads without mentioning this next book because it is probably my favorite romance i haven't read it in a really long time and i'm kind of afraid to go back to it because i feel like i wouldn't like it as much as i did the first time but the first time i read the series i was just like head over heels with like just swooning and like my favorite book boyfriend but the series i'm talking about is the selection series by kiera cass so i have since read some kiera cast and i haven't been the biggest fan of it but the romance in here between america and maxin in particular just had my heart like i read this entire trilogy in three days because i could not put it down and i just wanted to see what was happening so this is described as like being like the bachelor but the bachelor is a prince so it really is like that it's a very cool concept you get that combination of royalty with this dramatic like bachelor competition and there is a love triangle but i like to pretend that there's not a love triangle because the other person in the love triangle just made me so bad because he was like keeping everything from happening and i was like please stop but if you're looking for like a swoony read i think that this will totally do it everything about it had me just swooning the entire time like it was the absolute cutest so when i think of romances that i love this is for sure one that comes to mind as an easy super super quick read because you just like you want it to happen like and you're just watching it and like on the edge of your seat because you want it to happen so this is chef's kiss amazing and like i would kind of like to reread it but like i said i'm also really afraid to reread it so i will probably just leave it with how it is in my mind because in my mind it is perfection next i actually have a couple of authors that i wanted to talk about who write some really great romances so one of those authors is jen bennett and i think her favorite of mine would be sirius moonlight i'm not entirely sure it's kind of a toss-up between that and alex approximately but she has quite a few romances contemporary romances and she has one that just came out chasing lucky that i haven't gotten the chance to read yet and then she also has one that is coming out later this year so she writes them very very quickly and they are all a lot of fun she has characters that have very interesting hobbies and well i feel like it's kind of hard to write unique why a contemporary romances because all the plot lines have kind of been done before she does manage to have all of them be very unique story lines so in particular in this book we have a main character who really loves mystery novels and she is working at this hotel and she ends up connecting with this guy who is a magician and they end up trying to solve this mystery over the course of this book where there's this novelist that's very reclusive who is going to the hotel that they are working at so you have like a little bit of mystery thrown in there the setting of this one was awesome the setting is also always different and comes into play in the story and i just think any of her romances are sure to just sweep you off your feet and another author like that is morgan matson so she has quite a few but i think this is my favorite they actually kind of remind me of each other like i think if you really like morgan matson you probably really enjoy jen bennett but the unexpected everything is my personal favorite of hers and i think maybe because the love interest is a novelist so i enjoy that but there's also dogs in here so obviously i also love that but the main character she has like everything planned out but then her summer there's this huge scandal with her dad and everything just ends up being upended and she ends up taking a job as a dog walker for the summer when she was actually supposed to be going to like this prestigious program but instead she does that and it's just a really wholesome and cute summer romance another author that i actually kind of forgot about but casey west writes a bunch of why a contemporary romances and i haven't read all of them she literally has so many but i kind of have had mixed feelings on hers by your side and love life in the list those are two of my favorites i did really enjoy those but i kind of like it depends on the book i seem to either really enjoy them or i don't really like them although maybe this time which is her most recent i had kind of mixed feelings on like i thought it was pretty good but she has plenty of really quick romantic reads so definitely one to turn to next is actually an adult romance so that is red white and royal blue by casey mcquiston i'm sure you've heard of this book before but just in case you haven't it is definitely one to keep on your radar if you are looking for romantic reads so this is an enemies to lovers romance story where you follow the first son of the president of the united states and the prince was well i always start that with thee but that's not what i mean to say and henry prince of wales and they have never really gotten along but they end up like having to try and gloss over this kind of skin like small scandal that happened by showing that they're friends and everything but it's just the most hilarious and adorable romance blossoming between these two it is so great this is also a story that has a lot of layers to it there's a lot of political aspects to it as well but it just manages to be a lot of fun really adorable and hilarious all at once and i think this like just is oh it's so perfect and i definitely can't wait for this author is coming out with a new book this year and i'm so excited for it but if you haven't read this book yet please do it totally lives up to the hype speaking of hype next up is throne of glass by sarah j maas so say what you want about this series i'm sure you've heard of sarah j maas but i really do think that this has like some of my favorite romance in it in terms of a fantasy romance i also love leigh bardugo like in six of crows but i think i kind of enjoy the storyline of that one a little bit more in this one i do really enjoy the storyline but it is also the angst of the romance and the kind of like you don't know what's gonna happen for a while like i haven't even finished the series yet to be honest because it took so long for the last book to come out so i really need to finish it but i do think this really is like the romance is part of the reason why it gets so much hype because it is really great super addictive to read and i do really like it next is josh and hazel's guide to not dating by christina lauren you knew this book was going to make an appearance here okay so this is the adult romance that kind of opened that whole world to me i don't like a lot of smut in my romances it's just like i feel like romantic reads it's really personal preference but this is just kind of that's why it's like my favorites these are my personal favorites but i just i don't love a lot of smut and a lot of corniness i have like a certain level that i can handle and i always thought that most romances were gonna have a lot of smut and be really heavy on that and i wouldn't really like them so i kind of stayed away but this one was so cute and like cuteness is really what i'm looking for i'm looking for a cute couple that has chemistry and it jumps off the page and that is for sure what you get with josh and hazel so this is a second chance romance which is also one of my favorite tropes i love that and like friends to lovers i'm not the hugest fan of enemies to lovers but i do love when like there's no hard feelings really and then they end up coming together that's usually my preference so here they went to college together and they're total opposites so i think i also really like opposites attract but they end up finally coming together and it is just like so satisfying so adorable oh it is the cutest romance ever and i truly truly love this book next is her royal highness by rachel hawkins so this is actually a duology but this is my favorite of the duology this is the second book they're just companions so you don't have to have read one in order to read the other prince charming is the first book and in that one you follow kind of like it's kind of a similar storyline basically it's following the royal family of scotland so it's obviously you know a fictionalized royal family and you are following in this one princess flora who she's like party girl she's wild and she ends up going to a boarding school and the main character in this one is american and she goes to this boarding school because she had like a really bad breakup with her girlfriend and she ends up escaping that by going to a boarding school in scotland so that's one way to deal with the breakup but she ends up finding herself rooming with princess flora and it's oh it is so great honestly like it is the cutest i wasn't expecting to love this one as much as i did but i truly did flora and i think her name what is her name millie it is millie okay so millie and flora were just the perfect couple and i loved to watch their romance blossom it really was like so great honestly i think i've been describing all these romances the same way because how like how else do you say they are adorable they are so cute i don't know so i'm sorry that this is so repetitive but they really are so cute next up is simon vs the homo sapiens agenda by becky albertalli this is definitely kind of like a quintessential y a romance now i think and this was adapted into a movie that was also super super well done and i really love that too but the book is just so adorable so in this book you follow simon who is gay but he's not out yet and he ends up getting blackmailed because there is this guy who's just terrible but he ends up discovering these emails that are really flirtatious between simon and this other guy at their school but he doesn't know who it is actually so they have been anonymously connecting and they have been having a romance blossom between the two of them so it's this black male situation that's just terrible but it's also such a cute romance at the same time like the chemistry here is so great and i know i've said so great a million times but like it really is this is an amazing romance and it is definitely one that is a little bit more emotional but truly worth the read next up is wanderlust by jen malone this is a romance that combines two my favorite things which is acute romance and travel and this is set across europe and they are guiding this group of elderly people this tour group around europe and the main character is pretending to be her sister and she ends up starting to fall for the tour guide company's son so like it's kind of a mess there it is one of those romances where like you know things are gonna go badly you know things are gonna happen like you just know and you're kind of dreading it but at the same time it's so cute like the fact that they are guiding this group of old people it's just wholesome and heartwarming and a great read especially for now like i personally love travel books and i feel like now when we're stuck at home is a great time to read them too another book that i felt like i couldn't really talk about romances without mentioning is fangirl by rainbow rabbles so this is a big book okay and it has very small font i mean it's not huge but like it's 400 pages and the spacing and like there's a lot of words on the pages okay and i read this in a day like i think that is the fastest i've ever read a book like for a book this size for sure but that's because i could not put it down because i was rooting for this couple to be together the entire time so you follow kath and she is writing fan fiction and she's in this creative writing course at her college and like they're saying that fan fiction isn't really writing like it's this whole thing but she ends up meeting ren and they have a lovely time together i think i may have just read this at the perfect time like i was also in university when i read this and it was at the beginning of my university career i found it really relatable and i found ren to be like no not ren it's levi isn't it yeah ren is the i knew that didn't sound right and so dumb ren is her twin sister levi is how could i forget about levi i love him i'm terrible with character names i'm so sorry but levi is like the perfect romance the perfect love interest for her and he is just there for her he is the supportive boy that we all love and need and i truly adore him and i adore watching their romance blossom because there's also a lot of character development and a lot of growth for kath and watching him support her through that was really lovely next is another romance that i read last year and that would be felix ever after by case and calendar so this really isn't just a romance it definitely is a book that has a lot more going for it this is going to hit a lot of emotional levels like i think it's the most emotional i have been reading a book in a while and like not in a like crying way but it had a lot of highs and a lot of lows and it really conveyed that emotion very very well and had characters that completely came to life so in this book you're following felix who is a transgender boy who is being blackmailed at his school he has terrible transphobic bullying that is happening to him and he ends up finding himself in like this quasi-love triangle that he wasn't really expecting so you're watching him trying to navigate that while also trying to discover his own identity i love this book it has also been really hyped up but is totally worth it and the romance like i wasn't really expecting to love it as much as i did but oh my goodness they were so cute together and i don't really want to tell you who because like i feel like i was kind of like oh my gosh i like i see it but like i wasn't expecting it and it was really lovely so i'm just gonna like let you read it next is the kiss quotient by helen hoing so this is actually a like companion novel series they are definitely not connected it's usually what like romance authors do they will have romances that are set in the same world but you'll see the characters from other romances pop up but you don't have to have read all of them in order to enjoy them so this is just the first one and i would say that it's my favorite in this book you follow stella who has autism spectrum disorder so it is an own voices story about that and she ends up hiring a male escort to show her the thing that she doesn't really understand which is relationships sex and love so she gets everything else she's very analytical into numbers but she doesn't really understand that aspect of life so she's trying to learn a little bit more about that and hire someone to help her do that and i would say this is like one of the smartest books that i've read but it's kind of like my limit for smite but it is super good and really enjoyable i loved the chemistry between these two characters and i loved the fact that this wasn't just a romance there was more going on it just was a lot of fun but also had me feeling a lot of things i wasn't expecting so i just have a couple more books to talk about here like i said this list was really short and then it ended up kind of exploding but next is stalking jack the ripper by carrie maniscalco so this is actually also historical fiction but i guess i don't really think of it as that because mystery is more so the main plot line so the main character is really into forensics but as she is a woman living in victorian times she's not really allowed to do that but her uncle has been teaching her more about that and it is at the time that jack the ripper is at large so they are trying to solve that mystery and there's also thomas cresswell who is like absolutely what makes this series is amazing is the romance like oh my goodness i just love that romance and thomas is oh he is so great so definitely if you're looking for something that like is historical but will have you swooning this is perfect next is beach read by emily henry so this is definitely an adult romance diet leans more toward the side of being emotional rather than being cute it has a little bit more substance to it and i'm not saying there's anything wrong with like something like josh and hazel which doesn't have a ton of substance to it you're really reading it for the romance i just do like those reads that have a little bit more to them so this is definitely one of those you have a character who is dealing with the death of her father and she's grieving that but she also has discovered upon him dying that he's not actually who she thought he was so she's a writer and she ends up going to his michigan cabin and ends up being like roommate not rooming neighbors with someone that she knows from college who is also a writer and they end up swapping what they usually write so she is a romance author and she ends up trying to write the next great american novel for the summer and he is usually writing more like literary fiction i don't know why i blanked on what that was called but he is going to try and write a romance for the summer so as they are doing this it is just a lovely like romantic story that is blooming and oh my goodness it really is super great like so many things i loved about this book and finally this is very cliche but it couldn't really talk about romances once again without mentioning the fault in our stars i truly did love this romance like i feel like hazel and augustus were my og favorite couple in the first kind of romance book that i ever read was probably this one and i do think it is a great one to start out with definitely one that's going to tear out your heart and like it has beautiful writing i love john green's writing but it is totally worth the read like i think if you are interested in romances you will probably really like this one so those are all the romances that i wanted to talk about today now i just wanted to take a second to thank the sponsor for today's video skillshare so i have really been working on myself this year and changing a lot of things in my life and learning new things and productivity is a major thing that i have been working on so i have been taking the course productivity for creatives which is all about building a system that brings out your best and this is taught by thomas frank i've been learning so much through this course about being my best self and making time for being productive and having it not take over my life really and i feel like there's a fine balance between being creative and being productive and this has helped me find that and be productive in a way that doesn't eat away at my creativity but rather reignites it which is so awesome so i definitely would recommend this course so if you two were interested in learning something new skillshare is perfect for you it is an online learning community with thousands of courses taught from thousands of different teachers that have like so many different topics that are covered you can learn about photography you can learn about writing you can learn about cooking the options are endless i think now more than ever it is so important to be focusing on yourself and bettering yourself in self-care and what better way to do that than learning something new maybe something that you've always wanted to learn or you can pick up a new hobby like there are a bunch of interests you can explore even if you're just looking to fend off boredom it's a great way to do that and still feel like you're being productive which is nice skillshare has been kind enough to offer the first 1 000 people that click the link in my description box down below a free trial of their premium membership and even after that free trial runs out it's only around 10 a month so it is really affordable i definitely recommend checking it out whether you're looking to better yourself or you're just bored either way it's great so thank you so much to skillshare for sponsoring today's video i hope you guys enjoyed thank you so much for watching and i will see you in the next one soon bye so youeveryone it's hailey and today i wanted to talk about some of my favorite romantic reads so today's video is kindly sponsored by skillshare thank you so much to them for working with me once again i thought it would be really appropriate to take this time since we are near valentine's day to talk about some of my favorite just the love triangle just made me so bad because he was like keeping everything from happening and i was like please stop but if you're looking for like a swoony read i think that this will totally do it everything about it had me just swooning the entire time like it was the absolute cutest so when i think of romances that i love this is for sure one that comes to mind as an easy super super quick read because you just like you want it to happen like and you're just watching it and like on the edge of your seat because you want it to happen so this is chef's kiss amazing and like i would kind of like to reread it but like i said i'm also really afraid to reread it so i will probably just leave it with how it is in my mind because in my mind it is perfection next i actually have a couple of authors that i wanted to talk about who write some really great romances so one of those authors is jen bennett and i think her favorite of mine would be sirius moonlight i'm not entirely sure it's kind of a toss-up between that and alex approximately but she has quite a few romances contemporary romances and she has one that just came out chasing lucky that i haven't gotten the chance to read yet and then she also has one that is coming out later this year so she writes them very very quickly and they are all a lot of fun she has characters that have very interesting hobbies and well i feel like it's kind of hard to write unique why a contemporary romances because all the plot lines have kind of been done before she does manage to have all of them be very unique story lines so in particular in this book we have a main character who really loves mystery novels and she is working at this hotel and she ends up connecting with this guy who is a magician and they end up trying to solve this mystery over the course of this book where there's this novelist that's very reclusive who is going to the hotel that they are working at so you have like a little bit of mystery thrown in there the setting of this one was awesome the setting is also always different and comes into play in the story and i just think any of her romances are sure to just sweep you off your feet and another author like that is morgan matson so she has quite a few but i think this is my favorite they actually kind of remind me of each other like i think if you really like morgan matson you probably really enjoy jen bennett but the unexpected everything is my personal favorite of hers and i think maybe because the love interest is a novelist so i enjoy that but there's also dogs in here so obviously i also love that but the main character she has like everything planned out but then her summer there's this huge scandal with her dad and everything just ends up being upended and she ends up taking a job as a dog walker for the summer when she was actually supposed to be going to like this prestigious program but instead she does that and it's just a really wholesome and cute summer romance another author that i actually kind of forgot about but casey west writes a bunch of why a contemporary romances and i haven't read all of them she literally has so many but i kind of have had mixed feelings on hers by your side and love life in the list those are two of my favorites i did really enjoy those but i kind of like it depends on the book i seem to either really enjoy them or i don't really like them although maybe this time which is her most recent i had kind of mixed feelings on like i thought it was pretty good but she has plenty of really quick romantic reads so definitely one to turn to next is actually an adult romance so that is red white and royal blue by casey mcquiston i'm sure you've heard of this book before but just in case you haven't it is definitely one to keep on your radar if you are looking for romantic reads so this is an enemies to lovers romance story where you follow the first son of the president of the united states and the prince was well i always start that with thee but that's not what i mean to say and henry prince of wales and they have never really gotten along but they end up like having to try and gloss over this kind of skin like small scandal that happened by showing that they're friends and everything but it's just the most hilarious and adorable romance blossoming between these two it is so great this is also a story that has a lot of layers to it there's a lot of political aspects to it as well but it just manages to be a lot of fun really adorable and hilarious all at once and i think this like just is oh it's so perfect and i definitely can't wait for this author is coming out with a new book this year and i'm so excited for it but if you haven't read this book yet please do it totally lives up to the hype speaking of hype next up is throne of glass by sarah j maas so say what you want about this series i'm sure you've heard of sarah j maas but i really do think that this has like some of my favorite romance in it in terms of a fantasy romance i also love leigh bardugo like in six of crows but i think i kind of enjoy the storyline of that one a little bit more in this one i do really enjoy the storyline but it is also the angst of the romance and the kind of like you don't know what's gonna happen for a while like i haven't even finished the series yet to be honest because it took so long for the last book to come out so i really need to finish it but i do think this really is like the romance is part of the reason why it gets so much hype because it is really great super addictive to read and i do really like it next is josh and hazel's guide to not dating by christina lauren you knew this book was going to make an appearance here okay so this is the adult romance that kind of opened that whole world to me i don't like a lot of smut in my romances it's just like i feel like romantic reads it's really personal preference but this is just kind of that's why it's like my favorites these are my personal favorites but i just i don't love a lot of smut and a lot of corniness i have like a certain level that i can handle and i always thought that most romances were gonna have a lot of smut and be really heavy on that and i wouldn't really like them so i kind of stayed away but this one was so cute and like cuteness is really what i'm looking for i'm looking for a cute couple that has chemistry and it jumps off the page and that is for sure what you get with josh and hazel so this is a second chance romance which is also one of my favorite tropes i love that and like friends to lovers i'm not the hugest fan of enemies to lovers but i do love when like there's no hard feelings really and then they end up coming together that's usually my preference so here they went to college together and they're total opposites so i think i also really like opposites attract but they end up finally coming together and it is just like so satisfying so adorable oh it is the cutest romance ever and i truly truly love this book next is her royal highness by rachel hawkins so this is actually a duology but this is my favorite of the duology this is the second book they're just companions so you don't have to have read one in order to read the other prince charming is the first book and in that one you follow kind of like it's kind of a similar storyline basically it's following the royal family of scotland so it's obviously you know a fictionalized royal family and you are following in this one princess flora who she's like party girl she's wild and she ends up going to a boarding school and the main character in this one is american and she goes to this boarding school because she had like a really bad breakup with her girlfriend and she ends up escaping that by going to a boarding school in scotland so that's one way to deal with the breakup but she ends up finding herself rooming with princess flora and it's oh it is so great honestly like it is the cutest i wasn't expecting to love this one as much as i did but i truly did flora and i think her name what is her name millie it is millie okay so millie and flora were just the perfect couple and i loved to watch their romance blossom it really was like so great honestly i think i've been describing all these romances the same way because how like how else do you say they are adorable they are so cute i don't know so i'm sorry that this is so repetitive but they really are so cute next up is simon vs the homo sapiens agenda by becky albertalli this is definitely kind of like a quintessential y a romance now i think and this was adapted into a movie that was also super super well done and i really love that too but the book is just so adorable so in this book you follow simon who is gay but he's not out yet and he ends up getting blackmailed because there is this guy who's just terrible but he ends up discovering these emails that are really flirtatious between simon and this other guy at their school but he doesn't know who it is actually so they have been anonymously connecting and they have been having a romance blossom between the two of them so it's this black male situation that's just terrible but it's also such a cute romance at the same time like the chemistry here is so great and i know i've said so great a million times but like it really is this is an amazing romance and it is definitely one that is a little bit more emotional but truly worth the read next up is wanderlust by jen malone this is a romance that combines two my favorite things which is acute romance and travel and this is set across europe and they are guiding this group of elderly people this tour group around europe and the main character is pretending to be her sister and she ends up starting to fall for the tour guide company's son so like it's kind of a mess there it is one of those romances where like you know things are gonna go badly you know things are gonna happen like you just know and you're kind of dreading it but at the same time it's so cute like the fact that they are guiding this group of old people it's just wholesome and heartwarming and a great read especially for now like i personally love travel books and i feel like now when we're stuck at home is a great time to read them too another book that i felt like i couldn't really talk about romances without mentioning is fangirl by rainbow rabbles so this is a big book okay and it has very small font i mean it's not huge but like it's 400 pages and the spacing and like there's a lot of words on the pages okay and i read this in a day like i think that is the fastest i've ever read a book like for a book this size for sure but that's because i could not put it down because i was rooting for this couple to be together the entire time so you follow kath and she is writing fan fiction and she's in this creative writing course at her college and like they're saying that fan fiction isn't really writing like it's this whole thing but she ends up meeting ren and they have a lovely time together i think i may have just read this at the perfect time like i was also in university when i read this and it was at the beginning of my university career i found it really relatable and i found ren to be like no not ren it's levi isn't it yeah ren is the i knew that didn't sound right and so dumb ren is her twin sister levi is how could i forget about levi i love him i'm terrible with character names i'm so sorry but levi is like the perfect romance the perfect love interest for her and he is just there for her he is the supportive boy that we all love and need and i truly adore him and i adore watching their romance blossom because there's also a lot of character development and a lot of growth for kath and watching him support her through that was really lovely next is another romance that i read last year and that would be felix ever after by case and calendar so this really isn't just a romance it definitely is a book that has a lot more going for it this is going to hit a lot of emotional levels like i think it's the most emotional i have been reading a book in a while and like not in a like crying way but it had a lot of highs and a lot of lows and it really conveyed that emotion very very well and had characters that completely came to life so in this book you're following felix who is a transgender boy who is being blackmailed at his school he has terrible transphobic bullying that is happening to him and he ends up finding himself in like this quasi-love triangle that he wasn't really expecting so you're watching him trying to navigate that while also trying to discover his own identity i love this book it has also been really hyped up but is totally worth it and the romance like i wasn't really expecting to love it as much as i did but oh my goodness they were so cute together and i don't really want to tell you who because like i feel like i was kind of like oh my gosh i like i see it but like i wasn't expecting it and it was really lovely so i'm just gonna like let you read it next is the kiss quotient by helen hoing so this is actually a like companion novel series they are definitely not connected it's usually what like romance authors do they will have romances that are set in the same world but you'll see the characters from other romances pop up but you don't have to have read all of them in order to enjoy them so this is just the first one and i would say that it's my favorite in this book you follow stella who has autism spectrum disorder so it is an own voices story about that and she ends up hiring a male escort to show her the thing that she doesn't really understand which is relationships sex and love so she gets everything else she's very analytical into numbers but she doesn't really understand that aspect of life so she's trying to learn a little bit more about that and hire someone to help her do that and i would say this is like one of the smartest books that i've read but it's kind of like my limit for smite but it is super good and really enjoyable i loved the chemistry between these two characters and i loved the fact that this wasn't just a romance there was more going on it just was a lot of fun but also had me feeling a lot of things i wasn't expecting so i just have a couple more books to talk about here like i said this list was really short and then it ended up kind of exploding but next is stalking jack the ripper by carrie maniscalco so this is actually also historical fiction but i guess i don't really think of it as that because mystery is more so the main plot line so the main character is really into forensics but as she is a woman living in victorian times she's not really allowed to do that but her uncle has been teaching her more about that and it is at the time that jack the ripper is at large so they are trying to solve that mystery and there's also thomas cresswell who is like absolutely what makes this series is amazing is the romance like oh my goodness i just love that romance and thomas is oh he is so great so definitely if you're looking for something that like is historical but will have you swooning this is perfect next is beach read by emily henry so this is definitely an adult romance diet leans more toward the side of being emotional rather than being cute it has a little bit more substance to it and i'm not saying there's anything wrong with like something like josh and hazel which doesn't have a ton of substance to it you're really reading it for the romance i just do like those reads that have a little bit more to them so this is definitely one of those you have a character who is dealing with the death of her father and she's grieving that but she also has discovered upon him dying that he's not actually who she thought he was so she's a writer and she ends up going to his michigan cabin and ends up being like roommate not rooming neighbors with someone that she knows from college who is also a writer and they end up swapping what they usually write so she is a romance author and she ends up trying to write the next great american novel for the summer and he is usually writing more like literary fiction i don't know why i blanked on what that was called but he is going to try and write a romance for the summer so as they are doing this it is just a lovely like romantic story that is blooming and oh my goodness it really is super great like so many things i loved about this book and finally this is very cliche but it couldn't really talk about romances once again without mentioning the fault in our stars i truly did love this romance like i feel like hazel and augustus were my og favorite couple in the first kind of romance book that i ever read was probably this one and i do think it is a great one to start out with definitely one that's going to tear out your heart and like it has beautiful writing i love john green's writing but it is totally worth the read like i think if you are interested in romances you will probably really like this one so those are all the romances that i wanted to talk about today now i just wanted to take a second to thank the sponsor for today's video skillshare so i have really been working on myself this year and changing a lot of things in my life and learning new things and productivity is a major thing that i have been working on so i have been taking the course productivity for creatives which is all about building a system that brings out your best and this is taught by thomas frank i've been learning so much through this course about being my best self and making time for being productive and having it not take over my life really and i feel like there's a fine balance between being creative and being productive and this has helped me find that and be productive in a way that doesn't eat
