How I saved $10,000 on My New Daily Driver

**A Frugal Approach to Car Ownership**

When it comes to car ownership, many people assume that owning a luxurious vehicle is necessary to enjoy the benefits of driving a high-end car. However, one individual has taken a different approach to car ownership, demonstrating that it's possible to own and maintain a high-performance vehicle without breaking the bank.

**The Purchase of a Car with Damage**

This person recently purchased a car that had sustained significant damage, estimated at $11,000 by the insurance company. The car was originally valued at $14,000, making it a relatively inexpensive purchase. Despite its damaged condition, the individual found that the car drove fine and handled well on the road.

**Repairing the Car on a Shoestring Budget**

To fix the car, the individual purchased a replacement headlight from eBay for $150, which effectively brought the cost of repairing the car down to $4,000. They also purchased an aftermarket bumper for $300, a hood grill piece for $200, and had the hood painted at a local shop for an additional $750. These repairs should total around $2,050, leaving only a small amount of money out of pocket.

**The Benefits of Leasing vs. Buying**

In contrast to this individual's frugal approach, many people opt to lease cars instead of buying them outright. While leasing may seem like a more affordable option upfront, it can actually be more expensive in the long run. Leases typically require monthly payments, plus additional fees for insurance and maintenance. These costs can add up quickly, often totaling $750 per month or more.

**The Financial Benefits of Owning vs. Leasing**

By owning the car outright and saving money on insurance premiums, this individual is able to enjoy a high-performance vehicle without incurring excessive monthly payments. According to their estimates, they can save around $14,000 per year by not carrying full coverage insurance. Over five years, this amount adds up to $70,000, which can be used to purchase another high-end vehicle.

**The Freedom to Choose**

This individual's approach to car ownership is all about freedom. By choosing to drive a less expensive car and repairing it on their own, they are able to save money and have the financial flexibility to purchase other high-performance vehicles in the future. They note that owning a car like this every day allows them to enjoy driving cars like the 360, Supra, Corvette, Ferrari, and NSX.

**Conclusion**

In conclusion, owning a high-performance vehicle doesn't have to come with a hefty price tag. By choosing to drive a less expensive car and repairing it on their own, an individual was able to save money and enjoy the benefits of driving a high-end vehicle without incurring excessive monthly payments or insurance premiums. This approach serves as a reminder that financial freedom is within reach, even for those who may not be able to afford the latest luxury cars outright.

Ferretti here and I just scored myself a new daily driver now you know I drive crappy cars every day and it's for good reason because I don't like to really waste money although I have you know lots of cars so I do tend to waste money on things that I enjoy but I need to have value there right and there's not a lot of value to me in driving something like a G wagon every day right because all you're doing is showing people your money it's a waste I rather spend my money on sports cars on travel on experiences stuff that really makes me happy most people don't tend to follow that path they spend whatever they have on whatever makes them look the richest and that's not the smartest play and I'll tell you why and obviously you know I've driven that old beat up BMW forever the 540 is a daily driver I had a couple of Mercedes-Benz e350s e320s just sold my last two thousand dollar car and bought another one now this one was a opportunity because I was able to get this Audi right behind me here 2014 Audi A4 for ten thousand dollars less than it should now I'll show you why because you can do this too this is not rocket science right behind me here I've got a 2014 and you're saying why right now right Audi A4 and my friend owned it she crashed it got a check from the insurance company for fourteen thousand dollars I said oh it doesn't look too bad what's the buyout and now I own this for three thousand eight hundred dollars I picked it up in Michigan because to ship it back was eight hundred and fifty dollars it was a hundred dollar flight and 100 in gas plus 10 hours of my time which arguably could be worth more than that but I was up for the adventure my son's new future car it's a Audi A4 2014 and we'll get into that in a second but I'm out here in Detroit Michigan and I'm going to be driving this thing back to New Jersey but I'm doing it in the morning because this car was involved in an auto accident so I only have one headlight and I feel a safety issue and it's a little bit more difficult to get it home uh without getting pulled over with one headlight however does need a fair amount of parts and TLC that I'll have to take care of so obviously this isn't as is I flew in here on a one-way flight so let's take it out for a spin see how it is see how roadworthy it is my only concern so far was really that this Hood was staying down but that's not going anywhere so we should be all right let's go to 95 465 miles volume all right service do I'm okay with that no engine lights that's gonna be right now I mean if it was manual it would be cooler I've got the headlight there uh huh sounds like I got a wheel well rubbing or something but good thing about rotational rubbings is eventually stop doesn't seem to be sensitive to the turning of the wheel however what's going on under there you know what that's not the wheel that's my seatbelt I know but I'm gonna pull over in a second to figure out what this is all right uh my gut would be it's something over here but it doesn't even look like it's got a wheel well in it it didn't sound like if it was a fan shroud or something contacting you'd hear it there it is all right yeah that will scrape off we're okay with that all right here it goes we got nine hours and 40 some odd minutes to get back it's uh forecasting I got back at 7 20 p.m I'm gonna try to get back by five you hear that that's that Flappy thing under the car it doesn't like like the 45 mile an hour speed we get that but that's either gonna wear off a break off or drive me nuts one of the two but good thing is when I go faster at least up to like 50 miles an hour or so that tends to go away just because the air is pushing and it creates a vacuum and flops the round or the air pushes it flat and should be good so we'll find out if it happens to me like 90 miles an hour which is usually what I'm driving um we'll have a problem and I'll have to take care of that before we go and that'll slow me down but right now Target time five o'clock back to New York nice car though hear the hollow sounds adorable right I love cars with character all right yeah it's not gonna work I'm gonna figure out a plan here but it didn't get very far the best laid plans generally aren't thought out very well all right Discount Tire this should do it as long as they have a lift see I really feel like the best place for but I'll try if you look at this car this is a fourteen thousand dollar car it's a 2014 Audi which obviously you know WeatherTech floor mats I mean it's a clean car right if there's nothing that would make this car worth 3 800 bucks other than the damage to the front now the damage on this car is Hood Grill bumper and maybe we can keep the fender I don't know I may have to replace the fender the bumper cover definitely has to go and then the headlight where's the headlight Rob well excellent question you ask it's right here yeah garbage uh headlights garbage I ordered another headlight on eBay 150 this car came with a damage estimate of eleven thousand dollars from the insurance company and on a fourteen thousand dollar car they total it and to me I'm like that doesn't look that bad the car drives fine now I can be done with this car putting this headlight in effectively for four grand I'll own this car right now everything else drives fine about this car I just drove it um back with no issues I was my cruising speed is anywhere between I don't know 95 90 to 110 miles an hour on open roads and I have proof of that from uh Ohio where I was doing see what I got here I was doing Freedom Ohio how do I get a speeding ticket in Freedom uh 97 and I'm not 97. so uh that ended up proving to me and I'll see if maybe I'll get the footage from the cop that the car does handle speed perfectly fine there's nothing wrong with it obviously there's a giant gaping hole here but with the new headlight a hood Grill piece I can fix this car right and be into this car for about fifty five hundred dollars eBay Parts I can get an aftermarket bumper for probably two or three hundred dollars the grill I can get for 200 the hood I can get for four or five hundred dollars bring it to either Mako or a local paint shop another 750 to paint it and start doing the math this car is going to be proper for not a lot of money now why do I do this why do I drive a car like this every day because it allows me to have cars like the 360 the Supra the Corvette my f8 my NSX is oh it's all the way in the back there I've got my other Ferrari outside now this isn't Magic everybody can do this instead of you driving your just pick any least like the cheapest way to get a nice new car is to lease it right you don't you don't have any ownership you put a couple thousand dollars down let's just say you put nothing down right you get a sweetheart lease on a insert Subaru Audi whatever car you want whatever car that's going to blend in with everybody else you're not going to be special you're just going to have a nice New smelling car you're gonna be paying 750 bucks a month right then on top of that 750 a month you need to carry full coverage insurance on your car because if you damage it you got to make sure the bank is covered right so now you're paying another just say six five or six hundred bucks a month to ensure your new car so you're at 12.50 a month I just bought this car for four grand effectively with the headlight so and I don't have to carry the insurance that you're carrying so I can get liability only insurance for 400 bucks a year 500 a year for this car and I'm way ahead of the game so now after five years just say I'm spending I'd just say I sell this for five grand when I'm done with it right after five years it'll have another 30 000 miles on it out fifty thousand miles on it whatever I'll sell it for five grand I'll get all of my money back it'll cost me four hundred dollars a year to insure this car meanwhile you've got your nice new car you look the same as me in the parking lot you look the same as me when you pull up anywhere I got Bluetooth I got all that stuff that you have heated seats we're talking that you have now spent 12.50 a month which is fifteen thousand dollars a year with nothing to show for it so for me to be able to save effectively the difference between 400 so fourteen thousand dollars a year for five years do the math you can now buy this car after five years having driven that car think about it like so most people instead of getting locked into this no equity know this know that you can go out and buy this car in cash if you I'm not saying you can't afford your nice new car and your nice new insurance payment but if you drive something like that every day for five years you can save the money you just have to be disciplined enough to actually put that money aside and you can buy something like this or the super or the Corvette any of those you could buy any of them even the NSX almost uh you can get yourself one of those fun cars just by driving a crap car every day Rob for ready think about it thanks for watching see you tomorrow thank you\n"
