Report begins to suss out who knew what and when in Waymo_Uber lawsuit

The Uber Self-Driving Car Tech Secrets Case Heats Up

It's Tuesday, October 3rd, and the most self-driving car tech secrets case is heating up reports made public yesterday revealed that the central character in the case, engineer Anthony Levin Douse Key, had direct communication with Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, who is currently not the CEO of Uber. Both Levin Douse Key and Kalanick knew there were possibly some secrets from Google's self-driving car project literally stored in Levin Douse Key's closet according to a report prepared by cybersecurity firm Strasse Friedberg as part of Ebers' acquisition of self-driving trucking start-up Auto Levin Dosti.

Engineer Anthony Levin Douse Key came across some data disks in his home shortly after he left Google's self-driving car project, and he let Callen Ik know about the disks. The CEO said he wanted nothing to do with the disks and told Levin Douse Key to get rid of them. Levin Douse Key says he took the disks to a shredder but records of that are vague.

The report also details a long list of text messages amongst the key figures in the case, computer forensics probes that turned up odd findings, key communications with HR and so on. However, so far there seems to be no smoking gun that Uber intentionally ported Google's tech to their own self-driving car and truck projects.

Despite this, a billion-dollar-plus lawsuit is far from over. The situation will continue to unfold as more updates become available. In other news related to electric cars, General Motors (GM) wants to inform everyone that they think the electric car thing is here to stay. According to CEO Mary Barra, two new Eevee models will be joining the Chevy Volt in the next two years.

By 2023, just about five years from now, GM says Maura will have 20 electric cars in their lineup. In addition to these pure electric cars, vehicles that run on electricity generated from hydrogen-powered fuel cells are also part of the mix. These cars are essentially zero emission just like pure electric cars but can be refueled with gas like a gas-powered car.

The only by-product from this process is pure water. GM and Honda have been working on fuel cell cars for years now, and California is constantly expanding its hydrogen filling station infrastructure. This could serve as a bridge to an all-electric future while still providing the convenience of having gas stations.

Not alone in their vision of an electric car lineup are Jaguar Land Rover, BMW, Volkswagen, and many Japanese carmakers who are also saying that the future of driving is electric. As a result, it might be time for those long-term oil stock investment plans to be reconsidered.

Meanwhile, Digital Transcom has got its hands on the new Apple TV 4K streaming box. DT AV editor Caleb Dennison has been putting it through tests in the luxurious home theater room at their headquarters. The standout feature of this new device is its Siri integration for searching favorite shows, along with a 4k resolution update.

The Apple TV also features high dynamic range (HDR) support for improved picture quality and a lightning-fast interface. However, as noted by Caleb, it is priced at $180, which is nearly double the cost of a competitor like Roku's top-of-the-line ultra 4K streamer. Despite this higher price tag, the device just works very well and does its job admirably.
