Dad Wants You to Join Gnomies to Help Him

I've spent my fair share of time traveling to various parts of the world during my embassy duty. One place that holds a special spot on my bucket list is Ghana, Africa. I have fond memories of my time there and would love to return for just a week or so. The Africans were particularly fond of me, not because I was any kind of celebrity, but because of my unique hair texture. My kinky hair used to be quite the sensation among locals who would often carry their pencils up in it like it was some sort of hairstyle trend. Although my hair is now shorter, I still have fond memories of being a bit of an American icon in Ghana.

On another trip, I drove alongside one of those old Burlington Northern Santa Fe trains on Route 66. It was quite the experience and something that I'll always cherish. The railroad has been around for a long time and it's amazing to think about all the people who have ridden its rails over the years. As for other countries, I've had the opportunity to visit Hawaii, which is definitely one of my favorite destinations. Although I didn't quite get hooked on Hawaiian shirts like some folks do, I did start wearing them as a way to stand out in a crowd. I remember finding a shop in California that sold these crazy shirts at a discount, and I ended up buying a bunch of them. Now, I have a whole collection of these iconic shirts that I wear every day.

I've also had the chance to visit other parts of the United States, including New England, where I'm from but have never really explored much. The Northeast is definitely on my bucket list for future travel adventures. As for South America or South Africa, those are countries I'd love to visit someday as well. There's just something about exploring new cultures and meeting new people that really gets me excited.

Speaking of family, I've been married to an amazing woman named Judy for 42 years now. She's the one who keeps me on my toes and always knows how to make me laugh. We had a bit of a surprise birthday party planned in college, but she ended up finding out about it first thing in the morning and wasn't too pleased with my plans. Now every year on our anniversary, we celebrate by doing something special together.

One interesting quirk I've noticed is that I seem to have a knack for getting into conversations with people who end up being interesting and memorable. It's almost like I'm magnetically drawn to folks who are passionate about life or have some fascinating story to tell. And speaking of that, I did receive an email from someone in Ghana who claims to be a friend – so maybe we can arrange a time for me to visit again soon.

As for other notable experiences, I've been fortunate enough to work on several different projects over the years and even had my own business venture at one point. One of the things that keeps me grounded is technology, particularly iPads – which I happen to have at home right now.
