**Successfully Reassembling the PlayStation 4**
I've potentially successfully reassembled this PlayStation 4, but in standard David fashion, something went terribly wrong in the process. I may have accidentally ripped one of the cables out of the fan connector, uh, which I then had to gently re-solder back into the connector. Now I'm really hoping that it doesn't short out; there's a little bit of electrical tape around it, but it should be fine.
**The Noise Difference**
Now that I've got it all put together, let's see what happens when we... (sigh) problems solved. I wasn't worried at all, so after all the effort of popping the console's lid virginity taking it apart cleaning it re-pasting it breaking the console and then finally reassembling it; the noise difference is actually amazing. I genuinely wasn't expecting it to make as much of a difference as it did.
Before while using speakers it sounded like every game was taking place in a 747 mid-crash, whereas now it just sounds like kind of background electronics noise. It's actually really difficult to pick up the difference with a microphone because it's it's much bigger than it sounds even here but after that.
**Fixing the Last Problem**
There's still one more problem that I want to fix with the PS4. Now, I can imagine while designing the PlayStation 4 Sony allocated all of their budget towards allocating the APUs and getting the perfect slant angle for the case so when it came time to actually decide on storage for the PlayStation they'd blown all their budget so they had to save money there that's why they ended up going with a hard drive from the 1750 which means that the loading times are shockingly bad, and the console doesn't feel nearly as responsive as you'd want it to feel.
**Upgrading to an SSD**
So what I'm going to do is replace that geriatric hard drive with a sexy fast SSD. Now again this is not something new; many people have done this before so I'm not going to do a guide, but I'll have a couple linked in the description below if you want to check those out.
One thing to keep in mind if you do want to upgrade to an SSD in your PS4 only the PS4 Pro has SATA 3; the other PS4s have SATA 2 which means that they're not going to benefit as much from an SSD upgrade, but you will definitely still feel it.
**The Results**
So with that I fixed all of my main problems with the PS4; it now no longer sounds like a 747 at takeoff and it's much more responsive with reduced loading times. After a week of using the PS4, I will definitely recommend it as like an interim gaming device for somebody who can't find like a next-gen console or any graphics card.
**Conclusion**
You can find great deals on them on the used market; the slims are even cheaper. I actually initially wanted to get a slim but because of the really good deal on this Pro, I didn't want to pass up on that.
On a final note, there are definitely some downsides to buying a used previous generation console it's a used electronic device so it means you're probably gonna have to do a bit of maintenance to get the best experience out of it in the way that I had to also it's reaching the end of its lifespan so it means new games are going to become less and less available for it.
But despite all of this, I think considering the used prices and availability of these previous generation consoles I think they're a great bet for people who don't want to give scalpers way more of their money than they deserve.
WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: ennow in my opinion a used ps4 is one of the best value gaming hardware purchases you can make in this weird electronically dystopian hellscape that we currently live in on my local craigslist i was able to get this used ps4 pro in reasonable condition with two controllers and six games for about 260 us dollars now comparing that to the price of new gaming hardware at the moment um yeah i'd say that's really good so what i'm gonna do in today's video is i'm gonna show you what it's like the game on this ps4 and then after my eardrums have shattered due to the immense noise that it makes while gaming i'm gonna open it up and clean it to see how much of a difference that makes and then finally i'm going to do a small upgrade to it which is going to make it feel a lot faster but before we get into that it's time for a word from today's video sponsor today's video is sponsored by the corsair k65 rgb mini which is a 60 keyboard with many features like core says axon hyper processing technology that has a native polling rate of 8 000 hertz and through iq you can customize lighting profiles macros media volume and many other customizability things you can choose between cherry mx reds or speed silver switches it also has double shot pbt keycaps comes with a detachable braided usb-c cable and it sounds like this with its rgb backlighting you can really hear that rgb thank you very much corsair for sponsoring today's video the gaming experience on the ps4 has been very well documented up until this point considering the fact that it's a seven year old console but as somebody who skipped this console generation i've really been enjoying getting back into it just look at all that fun i'm having the ergonomics of the controller are great um it feels very natural to use despite the fact that the ends of the controller look suspiciously like a vibrating marital aid on the note of vibrations the rumble is also very satisfying while murdering a boss in the face because that kind of haptic feedback isn't something that you get while gaming on a pc unless you use an xbox controller or something like that which you can just plug straight into your pc um but the playstation does have a bunch of exclusive games which you can't get on a pc i've been playing a lot of god of war and gran turismo sport since i've gotten the console about a week ago and i've been enjoying it massively the games are visually spectacular for a seven-year-old console now i know that these are some of the better looking games on the console but it just shows that it really is capable of amazing graphics and since getting the ps4 it's been a really great excuse for me to get back into more narrative driven games because on my pc i always just default to grinding escape from tarkov until i hate myself but i've been enjoying kind of following a storyline and a plot more and it's been really good now again i know there are essentially infinite story driven games on pc but yeah getting into the playstation exclusives has been a really good time and actually on the note of the playstation exclusives one of the things that's great about it being a console at the end of its lifespan is it means that most of the kind of like defining aaa titles for the console are really affordable to get i mean i got god of war gran turismo sport and uncharted 4 for about 45 us dollars which means that getting a bunch of the games that you want to play isn't going to be that expensive and you can also find a lot of them on the used market for even less now in terms of downsides there is one big problem that i have with this ps4 pro that i bought and i think it may be the reason why i got it as cheaply as i was able to get it and it's the fact that it sounds like it's being powered by a ramjet it is surprisingly noisy in a way that i can't quite capture on a microphone because it like fills the room with noise it's pretty crazy on that note screw this noise now i understand that for a ps4 to run god of war is like me having to run any distance it's pretty much a worst case scenario so i don't know how much actually cleaning and repasting it is actually going to help the noise but i'm always willing to try that out now there are a whole bunch of guides on how to do this from people that actually know what they're talking about so this is not going to be a guide but i will have some of them linked in the description below oh that feels so terrible wow this console has clearly never lost its innocence uh yeah okay there we go wow that fan is actually still surprisingly clean which worries me a little bit about how much this is actually gonna help oh i hate that so apparently if your console's never been opened before you're gonna have to use rage mode to rip it open that is that is a really unsettling process oh i really hate these little ribbon cables they're such a pain in the butt to get back in and it's easy to break the connectors so you always need to be careful with those okay so that is the motherboard of a ps4 pro hell yeah wow that thermal paste application looks real poopy and re-pasting it's definitely going to make a big difference which makes me happy that i opened it despite of the hellish experience i've just been through okay so there's the dust buildup um so yeah i'm gonna clean that out re-paste it put it back together and then see how much of a noise difference that makes now i've potentially successfully reassembled this playstation 4 but in standard david fashion something went terribly wrong so what i'm going to do now is i'm actually going to quit game and then it's going to take me to the main menu this loading screen usually just bends it over a table that is so much better okay dope
