The Evolution of Smartphone Design: Apple's Next-Gen iPhone
There was a time not so long ago when manufacturers could release new phones and we would be surprised by what they looked like in terms of specs. Those days are long gone, and now that we know what the Galaxy S8 is because I got one in my pocket, it's time to move on to the next flagship launch. That is from Apple, and their upcoming iPhone 8, which I affectionately dub the iPhone 8.
We finally know a lot about at least allegedly a lot about the iPhone 8 due to Twitter user Ben Gaskin, who not only shared just images of it but also pictures of an alleged prototype of the iPhone 8. Now, take all this with the obligatory grain of salt, as it's supposedly one of 10 different prototypes Apple is toying with. However, it does tell a story and confirm at least allegedly confirm a lot of things we're hearing about the next-gen iPhone.
The big thing on display for the iPhone 8 is its edge-to-edge display, which almost used to be a no-brainer with the next-gen iPhone. All different prototypes that have leaked out have had that same similar edge-to-edge display. However, what this one is missing aside from bezels is any discernible touch ID button. We've seen some prototypes that have it on the back, but the Apple logo is sometimes below the Apple logo, and this one doesn't even have an Apple logo on the back. Not having any sort of touch ID lends a little bit of credence to the fact that Apple is working at least trying to integrate it into the screen itself.
Whether or not that actually makes it out onto the shipping device is anyone's guess, as we've seen with the iPhone 7 plus. Apple added a dual lens system on the back, which was like this horizontally today. It looks like they're going for a vertical look with little help from focusing, and it should also make the smaller phone (the iPhone 8) more versatile.
Ben Gaskin also shared further details on the phone itself, saying that it's about the same thickness as a current-gen iPhone 7 and has metal edges along the outside. These edges will actually be painted or anodized in a new color he's dubbed "space" and "black." The phone kind of looks like a lovechild between a Galaxy S8 and an iPhone 4, both beautiful phones in their own right.
The most interesting thing about this phone is that it has touch ID integrated directly into the screen. This is a huge technological advancement and could have pushed the entire industry forward. Samsung was trying to do something similar with their S8, but they couldn't get it out in time. Perhaps this feature would have been reserved for the S9.
So, what do you guys think? Is this the phone that Apple is working on? Is it one of the alleged 10 prototypes? If so, should we expect it to be released with the iPhone 8? Can you like and comment down below if you have any thoughts or opinions about the upcoming device.
