Exploring the Italian End of Hall One at the Paris M Show
As we ventured to the Italian end of Hall one at the Paris M show, our intention was to take a closer look at what you might spend your money on if you were looking for a new set of wheels. We began by checking out the Gran Turismo MC stradali, which is essentially Maserati's tribute to the race series The One make race series they do. Richard Meen and Rer Green had previously taken the car for a spin in earlier this year, and their report was that it was very fun but also very oversteering. The gearbox times have been reduced to 60 milliseconds, with power and torque increasing by about 10 horsepower and 110 kilos respectively. Although the car still weighs around 170 kilos, which is not terribly light, it has sweet handling and balance. It's also worth noting that the ride height has been lowered slightly, making it even stiffer.
Despite its impressive specs, there are a few other cars on display that might be worth considering if you're looking to spend your money. One such car is the Alpha 8C Spider, which we've seen before but still think is worth taking another look at. Unfortunately, it's likely that all of these cars have already been sold, as apparently, Aston Martin wasn't too keen on their practicality. However, when it comes to looks like this, I don't think they need to be terribly practical anyway. We'll move on to the next car after this.
Next Stop: The Ferrari Stand
Our next stop was the Ferrari stand, which had a lot of buzz surrounding its new arrival - the S Pera. This car has been built to celebrate 80 years of association with Pininfarina, and it's based on the Ferrari 599 GTO but is obviously a more ruthless version. It's essentially a modern interpretation of the 550 Beteta that Harry Metar mentioned earlier. Unfortunately for Harry, if he wants to buy one, he won't be able to because they've all been sold already. The S Pera is an impressive-looking car, and it seems like Ferrari has done a great job in keeping its signature style while still giving the car a sporty edge.
In addition to the S Pera, the Ferrari stand also featured another notable car - the Ferrari California with stop-start technology and Healey's electric hybrid system. This car was touted as being "high emotion low emission", but I think it would be better to say that it has a bit of an awkward name. Despite its somewhat dubious name, the Ferrari California seems like an interesting take on what could have been a more practical model.
All in All
While the Paris M show had its fair share of impressive cars, I don't think Ferrari's lineup was their strongest this year. Nonetheless, they still managed to draw a crowd, and it's clear that they're still committed to pushing the boundaries of speed and design.
