The MacBook Pro Case: A Well-Designed Accessory
The MacBook Pro case is designed to fit snugly around the device, providing a secure and stable connection between the laptop and its outer casing. The case features a multitude of tabs along the sides, with two on each side and three on the bar, ensuring that it does not pop off or flex every time the lid is lifted. This design feature provides a sense of security and stability, making it an essential accessory for anyone who uses their MacBook Pro frequently.
When installing the case, it's clear that attention has been paid to detail. The tabs are designed to snap into place, providing a secure fit without any loose ends or gaps. As the lid is lifted, the case remains firmly in place, ensuring that everything stays covered and protected. The ports on the bottom of the laptop, including the power port, two thunderbolt ports, USB port, and headphone jack, are also neatly aligned with the vents, providing optimal airflow and minimizing distractions.
The rubber feet on the bottom of the case are another notable feature. While they have a history of discoloring, becoming yellow over time, this is not necessarily a major concern for many users. The feet are removable and can be replaced if needed, and there are even colored sand cases available that offer solid-colored feet to avoid this issue altogether. However, the clear case has become a popular choice among MacBook Pro owners.
One of the standout features of the case is its smooth design. The area near the wrist rest is particularly notable for its lack of sharp edges or flashing surfaces. This makes it an ideal accessory for users who value comfort and ease of use. The tabs on the side of the laptop are also designed to be low-profile, allowing users to rub their hands against them without feeling any harsh edges or flashing.
When considering the back of the case, it's clear that some compromises have been made to accommodate the unique design of the MacBook Pro. The hinge is largely exposed, leaving it vulnerable to scratches and dings. However, this is a necessary trade-off in order to allow the lid to rotate closely with the body of the laptop.
In terms of durability, the case has undergone testing with the spec warranty service. In one instance, the author attempted to peel off the back piece of the case and found it to be relatively easy to do so. However, the top piece is more challenging to remove, due to its numerous fittings and tabs. The best approach is to break one of the fittings in the middle and then start peeling them all along the side.
In conclusion, the MacBook Pro case is a well-designed accessory that provides a secure and stable connection between the laptop and its outer casing. While it may be priced at $50, this author believes that it is money well spent. The smooth design and attention to detail make it an ideal choice for anyone who wants to protect their investment while also ensuring ease of use and comfort. With its one-year warranty and excellent customer service, the spec case offers peace of mind for users who are concerned about durability and reliability.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey guys Mike here the Detroit Board with a look at the smart shell from spec for the MacBook Pro with Retina display and I've been the big fan of the spec line of cases for the MacBooks Pad one for my macbook air my MacBook Pros and I definitely like the design fit and finish quality of the materials and I definitely like specs customer support so what I did is wait for expect to finally release one for the MacBook Pro with Retina display so it's been quite a while since that came out and spec finally released one so this retails for pretty hefty $50 I think it's worth the price you probably can get it cheaper eventually on sites like Amazon but right now if you want to get it right away it's going to cost you now it's only available in clear or you can get clear if you want the glossy finish or you can get one of the satin models and right now they're the color selection is pretty limited it's limited to black and pink but I'm sure more will be coming soon so I like the clear it maintains the look and design of the macbook pro and does very little to obscure its design now the reason they call it the smart shell it's the the see-through case like you see with the other spec cases is because this is thinner so I think they say this is about 30% thinner than previously so this allows the macbook pro to stay very thin and also without obscuring its design detail so anyway let's take a look in the box we just pop this out and we've been using this so the packaging may not be accurate here but inside we get our smart shell it's two pieces covered in plastic right now we'll peel that off and we also have that insert here which tells us how to install it how to maintain it and that's all there is to it that's one and let's go for the bottom piece here very satisfying sound very clean and crisp right now of course it will scratch up over time particularly because it's that clear version so let's go ahead and grab our macbook pro here you can see we can just drop this into place and of course we also have the speck covered piece so we have the speck logo along with these little rubber nubs inside the case which prevent this from rubbing against the top of the macbook pro that's definitely a nice detail there prevents the case itself from damaging the macbook you can also see we have these tabs here these are friction tabs that grab onto the side of the macbook pro it's the same with the bottom piece you'll find tabs all along the side you have one here toward the lip of the lid so this is where the front of the macbook pro is the point where you lift it up interfaces with the case here so when you lift up your case this is what you touch so it doesn't pop off or flex every time you lift up your lid so it's nice and secure so again just plenty of tabs along the side we have two on each side we have three on the bar two on the back here you can see two on the back here and two more on the side so let's go ahead and snap that on so you can see it snaps into place there you also see here a nice snapping sound make sure they're all secure so with the case installed we can take a close look around so you can see that everything is covered here along the side and you can see that we have all of our ports freeing our power port two thunderbolt ports USB port and headphone jack on the bottom we have our vents free as well so you can say line up perfectly with events on the macbook pro we have our rubber feet here which are clear and unfortunately they do have a history of discoloring that's my biggest gripe with them so you can see here i have my macbook air case here and they do tend to turn yellow for whatever reason they can pop out they are removable so I suppose you could replace them if they bother you or you could get one of the colored sand cases which have solid color feet so the clear ones tend to be the problem but if you get a different color you don't have to worry about it but not a big deal for me I prefer to have a clear case but also on the other side we have all of our ports free again we're ventilation we have a cutout for our thumb here to lift up the lid which is typical and you can see that it does not interfere or get in the way of the operation of the macbook pro in fact you can see our tabs here that latch onto the macbook pro very low profile so they you don't really feel them when you rub your hand against them they're pretty smooth same with the area near the wrist rest so this will not cut into your wrist they will not put your wrist so it's kind of a nice smooth feel to it not sharp you don't feel any flashing so it's a very nice well-made product now looking at the back you can see that the hinge is largely exposed including the back part of the lower body here so this does leave it vulnerable to scratches and dings but unfortunately that's necessary because the lid of the MacBook Pro swear that rotates very closely to the body so they have to leave that area free but they do cover at least the corner now the problem with this tiny corner piece here you can see it's a very thin piece here is that it does tend to break off I've had a MacBook Air with this type of case and I tried to peel this off one time and it snapped off but spec was great about replacing that they have an excellent warranty service in terms of taking this on and off it's not necessarily easy but it's not necessarily hard now in terms of the bottom piece they're really only two fittings on the side right here and then two on the back I would not peel them off from the bags you will break those off at some point so just pop these off you can see kind of pops out and it slides off so if these kind of push it forward there you go so it's pretty easy again just snap it back into place and you're good to go now the top piece is harder there are a lot more fittings on the top piece so the best way to do that sort of break the one in the middle and then start peeling them all along the side here oh there you go so it's not too bad you can take this on and off if you want you'll want to take this on and off particularly to clean because dust will accumulate behind here at some point so in conclusion although this is pretty pricey at fifty dollars I think it's money well spent it's one of the better designed MacBook Pro cases especially for the retina display now while I was waiting for the spec case to come out I did purchase an off-brand case from Amazon and it didn't work out it was a pretty poor quality product that had sharp flashing along the wrist rest that cut into my wrist it had a broken tab and of course I spent twenty five dollars to basically throw it away so it wasn't a very good experience so I'm glad spec finally came out with one in them happy to spend $50 to get it it will last a life of this MacBook Pro and if I have any problems with it I can contact spec with that one year warranty and get a replacement free of charge so that's going to do for me guys in this video thanks for watching and I'll see you again in the next onehey guys Mike here the Detroit Board with a look at the smart shell
