Is My Channel Dead

**The YouTube Algorithm: Understanding its Flaws and How to Work with It**

One of the most frustrating aspects of creating content on YouTube is the algorithm that governs what videos are shown to viewers. For many creators, the number of views on their new videos can be a major concern, with some feeling like they're not getting enough attention or engagement. In this article, we'll explore why the view counts for new videos may not be as important as they seem, and how the algorithm works to promote content over time.

**Low Views for New Videos: A Common Experience**

I've noticed that many of my own viewers are experiencing a similar phenomenon - low views on their new videos. Take, for example, my video "million views" which got only about 29,000 views on its first day. Similarly, another video on how to get free cable received only 35,000 views on its first day. It's almost as if the number of views on the first few days doesn't really matter - instead, it's what happens over time that's more important. As I've seen in my own channel, most of my views come from long-term engagement, not short-term spikes.

**The YouTube Algorithm: A Complex System**

So, what's behind this? The answer lies in the YouTube algorithm, which is a complex system designed to promote high-quality content to viewers. According to creator insights, the algorithm takes into account factors such as video watch time, engagement, and audience retention when deciding which videos to show to users. While it may seem like a mysterious force, the algorithm is actually quite predictable - once your video gains traction, it's likely to continue getting more views over time.

**A Recent Example: The 10 Computer Myths Video**

To illustrate this point, let's take my recent video "10 computer myths" as an example. This video was uploaded about a month ago and initially received only about 28,000 views on its first day. However, with the help of YouTube suggestions, it started to gain more traction over time - eventually reaching 400,000 views. Another recent video I made, "11 hidden chrome extensions," also followed this pattern, starting out with low views but eventually picking up speed and reaching 100,000 views in two days.

**My Channel: A Rare Example of Success**

So, what can we learn from these examples? For one thing, my channel is a rare example of success on YouTube. Despite relying primarily on high-quality content that resonates with viewers over time, I've found that it's still possible to grow and engage with your audience. In fact, I'm actually relieved that my channel has done so well after switching to more "real" tech videos - something I was worried would tank.

**A Word of Warning: Don't Rely on Views Alone**

For creators who rely heavily on views from new videos, I have a warning: don't put all your eggs in one basket. The view counts for new videos may be low at first, but it's the long-term engagement and quality content that really matters. My own experience has shown that most of my views come from well-established channels - not new ones.

**Behind the Curtain: How YouTube Works**

So, what's going on behind the scenes? According to creator insights, there's a lot more to YouTube than meets the eye. For example, many creators feel like they're constantly trying to game the system or "trick" the algorithm into promoting their content. However, in reality, it's all about creating high-quality content that resonates with viewers.

**How You Can Help: Enable Subscription Notifications**

So, what can you do to help? One of the biggest things you can do is enable subscription notifications on my channel. By doing so, you'll receive alerts when I upload new videos - and you won't have to rely on YouTube's algorithm to show them to you. Additionally, if you thought this video was interesting, please give it a thumbs up - it really means a lot!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enis my channel dying am I gonna have to go work at McDonald's next week because my views are so low well that's what all the teenagers in the comment section are saying so it must be true no guys my channel is not dying I thought I'd talk about it because I don't really have much time today and thought this would be an easy video to make so let's do a little bit of debunking in this video shall we and then after this I will ignore any future comments about it so don't bother so first of all for those of you worried no my channels not dying actually in the past month of December this has been one of the best months I've ever had so my channel has been doing just as well it's not better after switching from the fake stuff to the real stuff now yes I am NOT blind it is true that I had a huge spike of views in July in August and that was from a few joke tutorials that did really well and I released them all at the same time so it kind of compounded and stacked but at that time I kind of realized even then that those joke tutorials are not really sustainable so that's kind of why I stopped and wanted to make the real stuff this is one of the big misconceptions that you guys seem to have and that is that right after I stopped making the tutorials my views plummet 'add nope as I mentioned before July and August were anomalies I mean those were great months but there was no way to sustain those kind of huge views because I would have had to continue releasing tons of these clickbait fake tutorials and believe me they get really old really fast they wouldn't last it in fact if you look I kind of switched to real tech videos around the beginning of October and even before that my views had started to stabilize in September back down from that huge spike so if even if I kept making the fake tutorials it wouldn't have been like that despite before and after the spike viewers have actually still stayed higher than they were before the spike so there was no big drop in views now another thing that people see which is actually completely understandable but a little bit misleading is the number of views I get on new videos I will be the first to say that yeah the YouTube algorithm generally hates me and early shows my new videos to any subscribers so a majority of the first views on videos are those who happen to look at the subscriptions feed and decide they want to watch that particular video which is not everyone sometimes even if you would look at the subscriptions feed obviously you might think at not really interested in that one so this means that most of my new videos get pretty crappy view counts based on my total subscriber count but that's not the whole story most of the mouth-breathers that are eating their Cheetos and slobbering onto the keyboard somehow commenting that my channel is dead are not seeing the bigger picture they look at past videos with millions of views and compare that to the first-day views of my new videos but that's not the right way to do it so to show you what I'm talking about let's take one example my how to get free sale data tutorial which is from a few months back and it did really well it has over 3 million views man my videos don't get that many views anymore do they look my videos from yesterday only has like 23,000 views my channel is obviously dead I'm not getting close to the number of views I was doing before with the fake tutorials I'm dead but wait let's see how that cell data video did on its first day wait a minute what's this that video with 3 million views only got 19 thousand views on the first day and only 8 thousand on the second day ok well that must have just been in anomaly that's just weird let's look at some other examples ok how to get faster internet speed that one got 3 million views - ha that's strange that one only got about 29,000 views on the first day and how to get free cable that one has 3.7 million views and that only got 35,000 views on the first day it's almost like the number of views on the first few days don't really matter and that is the main thing I want to point out here for whatever reason the YouTube algorithm does not really show my new videos to people on the homepage at first it's like only the people who seek out the new videos so the view counts are going to be low for my channel it almost always has been the case that by far most of my views are long-term not short-term not all of my videos go on again millions of views obviously but most of them do pretty decent in the long run and I figured out that if I make videos that people simply like to watch and are interested enough to click on the best ones usually get picked up by the algorithm after a little while and you know let's do a much more recent example so you're not thinking oh well that's just the fake tutorials they get more views your new videos suck they don't get views at all so let's look at the 10 computer myths video I did a while back which is a great example that was about a month ago so this video right now at this time has about 400,000 views that's great now for the first day it only got about 28,000 views which is actually higher than the average right now and it had a little spike after a couple days but then it really trailed off if you looked at it a week or two afterwards it was like I have this videos done but after a couple weeks that algorithm was like yeah maybe this video isn't so bad so it got a little bit more views for about another week and then after that Wham 86 thousand views in one day and another recent video I made this one just last week was the 11 hidden chrome extensions video first day nothing spectacular 26,000 view is not really impressive and then even less the next couple days but then the algorithm picked it up and WHAM a hundred thousand views in two days and by the way these views are coming from youtube suggestions not links from other websites so it is the YouTube algorithm and the reason all this is important and the reason I'm talking about it is while there are a lot of youtubers who really rely on views from new videos I am NOT one of them my channel has always gotten a vast majority of views from all my videos as a whole not just the new ones in fact the new ones are a tiny tiny insignificant sliver so I guess I have a couple points from all this first my channel is not dying it's doing just fine and I'm actually really relieved and surprised honestly that it is doing so well after switching to the real tech videos I was really worried that it would just tank but it has not and I'm much more enjoyed doing these so if you were thinking and hoping I would switch back to the fake videos look I'm just not I'm not totally ruling out future joke videos but I do not have any plans for any in foreseeable future so don't really keep your hopes up I would only make one if I had like an amazing hilarious idea the other point is you have no idea what you're talking about so shut up but seriously there is so much more that goes into YouTube than most people even realize so I thought it'd be neat to kind of show some of the other factors of play peek behind the curtain a little bit and also so that people would stop trying to tell me what I should do trust me guys I'm good at the Internet so anyway that's my spiel I'm actually kind of starting to lose my voice so I better start talking I don't really have anything else to say about it if you guys like my channel though and you do want to help probably the biggest thing you can do is actually enable subscription notifications so if you click the bell next to the subscriber button it'll let you know when I upload a new video depending on which settings you have enabled whether it's a phone notification or email or whatever and then you don't have to go to the subscriptions tab and rely on YouTube to show you what videos you want to watch also if you thought this video is interesting you can give it a thumbs up I would really appreciate it and if you want to keep watching I'll put some other videos right here you click on these even if you're on the phone so that's pretty cool and I make new videos every Tuesday Thursday Saturday so again consider subscribing anyway I'm looking forward to hearing from you guys so let me know down the comments section what you think and thanks for watching I'll see you next time have a good oneis my channel dying am I gonna have to go work at McDonald's next week because my views are so low well that's what all the
