NEW iOS 8.1.1 Released - Everything You Need To Know

**iOS 8.1.1 Update: What You Need to Know**

As we've previously warned, iOS 8.1.1 is the jailbreak killer, and our warning has proven to be true. The latest update has made it impossible for users to jailbreak their devices, so if you value your jailbroken status, make sure not to update to iOS 8.1.1. There's no going back after this point, as downgrading will not allow you to revert to a previous version of the operating system.

**Performance and Battery Life**

iOS 8.1.1 has one primary fix: improving performance on older devices such as the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2. Apple even admitted that the performance wasn't great on these devices, so with this latest update, they've decided to enhance it. I wanted to show you guys how the changes have affected the performance.

**Geekbench Comparison**

To see how different the numbers are, I'll be comparing iOS 7.1.2 with iOS 8.1.1 using Geekbench. I'll make sure there's nothing in the multitasking bar and run a quick processor benchmark to compare the scores. As we're finishing up on the iPhone running IA 7.1.2 did finish the Benchmark just a little bit faster, so I'd say it's about 5-10 seconds ahead.

**Benchmark Results**

After running the benchmark, I can see that iOS 8.1.1 is almost identical to iOS 7.1.2 in terms of processor performance. However, for older devices, there is a difference โ€“ it's like Apple has cut out some of the lag that I would see throughout the system and it's a lot better. Let me launch a couple of applications to see the difference.

**Real-World Performance**

Using the App Store, I can tell that iOS 8.1.1 is significantly slower than iOS 7.1.2, especially on older devices without Wi-Fi connectivity. However, overall, the performance has improved, and it's definitely better than previous versions of iOS like 8.0.2 or 8.1. But if you're still on iOS 7, I wouldn't recommend updating just for speed โ€“ as much as the performance has improved, it's not the same as the speed found in iOS 7.

**Conclusion**

That's about it for now โ€“ the iOS 8.1.1 update does destroy the jailbreak, so if you're relying on that, do not update and do not let anyone update for you. However, if you're on an older device and you're on iOS 8, then updating to iOS 8.1.1 will help with performance and may even improve battery life slightly.

iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 so those are the oldest current devices that support iOS 8 and apple even admitted that hey the performance wasn't that great so with this latest iOS 8.1.1 update Apple decided to improve the performance on the older devices and I just wanted to show you guys how that's changed I'm going to be comparing iOS 7.1.2 with iOS 8.1.1 in a geekbench just to see how different the numbers are if the performance has actually changed and as far as battery life goes I can't tell you guys yet because I haven't had enough time to use it so let's go ahead and test iOS 7.1.2 versus iOS 8.1.1 so I have these devices right here and I just wanted to go ahead and run a quick geek bench so I'm going to make sure I have nothing in the multitasking bar all right and let's go ahead and launch geekbench so as you guys can see even opening it up it's a little bit different on this device but let's go ahead and run the processor Benchmark and see how iOS 8.1.1 compares to the tried andrue 7.1.2 okay so as we're finishing up the iPhone on IA 7.1.2 did finish the Benchmark just a little bit faster so I'd say it's about 5 to 10 seconds ahead and anyways in a moment here we should be finishing up and okay it looks like the score is pretty good for 7.1.2 and it looks like it's just a tad bit higher with the multicore score but look at that it's almost identical wow that's as far as differences goes that's it you know the speed has just been enhanced for older devices and little bunch of bugs everywhere have been fixed but other than that there's no new feature
