2019 15-Inch MacBook Pro Is Refined, Not Redesigned

The 2019 MacBook Pro: A Monster of Refinement

Welcome to our review of Apple's latest eight-core monster, the 2019 MacBook Pro 15-inch. I'm Andrew from Apple Insider, and I've got the chance to dive into this powerful machine with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, Vega 20 GPU, and 32 GB of RAM.

Design: A Familiar yet Refined Package

The design of the MacBook Pro still looks pretty amazing for being as old as it is. The only thing we'd really like to change is maybe some slightly thinner bezels around the display. Overall, however, it looks pretty top-notch. The device has been refined over the years to address some of the issues that came with the first model, such as the keyboard and throttling issues.

Performance: A Beast of a Machine

We're pretty impressed with all the results we got in Cinebench. Our average score was 30.96, with a high of 31.60 and a low of 32.12. These scores are even more impressive considering that Apple fixed those thermal issues that we saw in the past. The processor was only rated at 2.4 GHz from Apple, but we're getting a quarter frequency of 3 GHz steadily after it came back down from its turbo boost speed A5. We've also heard that the thermal paste or thermal paste application could be responsible for the better gains and heat performance in our old standby Geekbench 4.

Our multi-core score was 29.976, while our single-core score was 58.79. These scores are a significant improvement over last year's models, which scored 22,620 on the multi-core test. The MacBook Pro is still an amazing machine, and it's clear that Apple has put a lot of effort into refining this device.

USB-C and Thunderbolt 3: A Standard You Can Trust

One of the things we love about the MacBook Pro is its adoption of USB-C and Thunderbolt 3. These standards have become pretty much the norm across the space, and you can easily find cables or adapters that will fit. We've really gone all-in on USB-C and don't have a single dongle lying around.

Display: A Gorgeous Screen with 500 Nits of Brightness

The display is still gorgeous, with 500 nits of brightness. It also sports the P3 wide color gamut and night shift, making it perfect for watching movies or working on creative projects.

Keyboard: A Slightly Updated Design

Apple has made some changes to the keyboard design on the 2019 MacBook Pro. The heat treatment process for the little metal domes has been updated, and the membrane has been switched from a more silicon material to a nylon material. This should hopefully improve reliability in the long term.

Refinement: The Name of the Game

The 2019 MacBook Pro is all about refinement. It's been on the market since 2016, and Apple has slowly been iterating on all the small things to make this device the perfect laptop. We didn't expect a major redesign for next year, but with that comes a whole new crop of issues that Apple will have to work through.

In Conclusion

The 2019 MacBook Pro is a monster of refinement. It's clear that Apple has put a lot of effort into refining this device, and the results are impressive.
