now or it's a beautiful moment but the weather changes quickly here and we are here because we've been invited by the vw fun cup to come and drive their car now we're in belgium so we have to wear a mask as you can see so my apologies for that and we are also not here for fun we are here to learn because that's the only way we can come here and drive uh because i have an instructor as well who is going to show me around uh first and then i get to drive for a couple of laps in free practice because it is friday today as you can see it is completely empty now but in a few hours it will be hustling and bustling with little beetle race cars here who are going to drive in free practice around 80 or 90 cars will be driving and that's a lot i don't think i've ever been on track with that many cars oh but it is i'm excited i am excited every time i come here i love it here so uh this is the car as you can see it's based the body is based on a beetle but it's not really a beetle it is a proper full-on race car it's got a 1.6 liter naturally aspirated four cylinder engine with about 180 horsepower a sequential gearbox but we're running street tires so that's why this is such a cool racing cup because it's super accessible and approachable it's not that expensive parts are not that expensive relatively speaking of course for a race car everything is expensive when you're racing but this is one of the most i would say it's one of the most professional ways to drive for the least amount of money because you do have a proper race car but you don't have all the drama that comes with driving like a porsche gt3 cop car and of course being a proper race car driver today i've got a nice suit as well with some shoes i've got underwear underneath here as well i'm not going to show you guys your pervs i've got a helmet all courtesy of come to you racing so big thanks to them for hooking me up with this awesome professional racing car driver race dar race car driver suit okay so let's take a look at the car you can see that still all beetle this is all beetle right it's got big hips air intake right here as i said it's street tires so these are hankooks with some proper racing wheels and if you look well can we take a look in here yeah we can so you can see that this is all super light weighs around 850 kilos so that's not a lot you can see that this is a car with a two-seat setup but normally the guys sit in the middle and they sit alone but this is like a passenger seat for more at the rear if you come and take a look in here you can see the engine and the gearbox it looks absolutely awesome big ass wing on the rear with a brake light yeah all right i'll get ready and then it's time to go racing okay so what's up guys we are now in the vw cup car what's your name jacques is next to me he is going to make sure that i don't do anything stupid and that we have a lot of fun so first i'm going to take it easy of course and we're going to see what this car is like to drive we've got a sequential gearbox which is awesome bit exit and here we go onto the straight and we're going to keep right for the quicker cars that are going to pass me which is basically all of them yeah i'm just going to let them pass okay so it is super super busy i've never felt this slow but the cool thing is i've never driven this car or anything like this far and still i can get in and start driving it and start experiencing the car and the track okay so that's the first full level and now up next but as i was saying this is this is so approachable for a cup car or a racing series it's ridiculous it's a little so okay so that's a red flag uh again i'm sorry i didn't talk too much but i was really concentrating i'm glad i've got shark next to me who is really nice helping me out but if you want to do something like this if you want to join the vw fun club i mean you can so they are organizing a cup race in south ford in the netherlands so uh that's the weekend of the fifth and sixth of june uh they have a free practice on friday then qualifying on saturday and the race on sunday which lasts for eight hours and well it is it is really fun it's a lot of fun the cars feel really like basic uh and you don't have like traction control and stuff i think so when you when you brake for a corner and uh your clutch is too aggressive you can feel the car moving around but i mean you can see the guys around here they are going much much quicker than me so a bit limit on very much on the top yeah yeah there are a lot of cars on track like 80 or 90 right yeah so that's you know as soon as people are getting the same level then the field will like uh sort itself out but as long as you have idiots like me driving here they all have to overtake me that was a lot of fun thank you very much for driving with me so that was it it was let me just get my mask i have to wear it at all times so that was it it was very very short just two laps because there were two red flags that kind of messed up my window but it was a lot of fun you have to get used to the car of course but you get used to it quite quickly because it's not that intimidating it's not that fast to start with so you can start pushing the car really quickly and that makes it a lot of fun it's not intimidating and that makes it so accessible and so approachable and i think those are two words that you don't often find with racing uh you know i can just drive up here wear this suit get into the car and drive around spa and have fun and not worry about crashing a 500 000 euro car and i think that is why this is such a good idea and spa is only an hour and a half from our house so i mean it's so close it's one of the best tracks in the world and you can go racing you can go racing you can go racing yourself in the vw fun cup you can go to the website which is just right here vwfoncup.edu you can also check out the teams that are racing and you can approach them to see if
