In Today's Video Tutorial

We're going to be making some jewelry magnets in this video tutorial. Not just any jewelry, but using found jewelry from thrift stores, flea markets, or maybe you have a pair of earrings that you lost the pair and you have this one earring that's lonely and needs a new purpose. So, we're going to make this super simple project very inexpensive. Let's get going!

Materials Used

I'll be showing you all the steps in this video tutorial. Here are some of the materials I used: pliers or wire cutters, strong glue like e6000 or superglue, and some magnets. If you do use needle nose pliers, make sure they have a cutter in them. You also need some magnets. I got these at the craft store.

Preparing Your Jewelry

Take your earring or your piece of jewelry and most of the time, I just bent the little part that goes in your ear right off. But there might be some times where you need to use the wire cutters. Here is another set of earrings, and this one was a little bit harder to bend. So, I used the wire cutters just to give me make it a little bit easier. Now, here's one where the connection is a little bit trickier; the jump ring is welded on to the top part of the earring, so I had to cut that to get it off and then just trim it off.

Cutting Off Sharp Edges

If you need to use some sandpaper or something to make sure that there aren't any sharp edges. Also, you can cut off the post that goes in your ear; you can cut that off to make that a flat surface so that you can still use all of the earring. Here's that top part I love the kind of Native American turquoise feel of that one. I also cut up a bracelet and used all the pieces for that.

Gluing Your Magnet

Now, take your glue and basically glue your magnet to your pieces of jewelry. You can use the dangly part of the earrings; you can take it apart. These magnets aren't too large, so you can use all different sizes things. It can be really versatile that way. Make sure that you apply a generous amount of glue and you want to make sure that these will cure and dry completely overnight.

Finishing Touches

Here is the magnet on the back of that turquoise earring. You can see about how much I used, and then when you want them to dry, make sure you space them apart so that the magnets don't stick together and it takes the glue off of your project. So, there you have it; super easy and simple. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.
