The Year of the Geek: A New Era in Lego Superer Sets

As I sit here surrounded by my latest Lego acquisitions, I am excited to share with you that 2012 is going to be the year of the geek. Yes, I could say that just about any year, but wasn't last year the Year of the Nerd or perhaps the Year of the Dork? I remember 1991 as a notable year for this label, and I'm not alone in thinking that.

Lego is now producing Superer sets starting with the DC Universe, marking the first time we've seen Superman, Wonder Woman, Lex Luther, and other iconic characters come to life in Lego form. This is geeky territory, not just for Lego itself but for all of us who love superheroes, comics, and sci-fi. The inclusion of these beloved characters in the Lego universe is a testament to the enduring power of pop culture.

As a proud member of this community, I was thrilled to receive one such set as a gift for promoting a startup that partnered with Amazon on an exciting project. The set, Superman versus Power Armor Lex (set number 6862), comes with 207 pieces, three unique mini-figures, and a comic book. I couldn't be happier to have this addition to my collection, and I'm confident it will be assembled quickly.

In addition to the DC Universe sets, Lego is also working on Lord of the Rings-themed sets for later in the year. This is exciting news, not just for fans of Middle-earth but for all of us who love geek culture. The fact that these sets are being produced by a company that understands its audience and is willing to cater to our passions is truly commendable.

As I delve into my Lego collection, I'm reminded of the importance of community and sharing. Recently, I received gifts from two friends who are also part of this vibrant community: TX Wolfhawk and Willie (who wore the outfit from Indiana Jones that sang "Anything Goes" at the beginning of Temple of Doom). These gifts include a clone trooper mini-figure, an original A-wing pilot, and more. It's these connections with like-minded individuals that make being a geek so rewarding.

In addition to my personal collection, I've been exploring other online platforms to find unique Lego sets and minifigures. My Amazon wishlist has accumulated some amazing items, including a custom-made a-wing pilot produced by a UK-based website. This is just one example of the many resources available for those who love Lego beyond traditional retailers.

As we move forward into 2012, I'm excited to share this journey with all of you. Whether it's assembling sets, discussing our favorite franchises, or exploring new sources for inspiration, I invite you to join me in celebrating the geeky culture that brings us together. In the coming weeks, I'll be hosting a Google+ broadcast and inviting registered Nomies from n.com to participate remotely as part of this special community.

So, do you think you'd be interested in superhero Lego sets at all? Let's discuss!
