Android Lollipop - When Will You Get It

Welcome to Android Weekly. My name is Jace, and this week we're not only talking about what Android Lollipop might look on your phone but when you actually might receive it on your device. I'm joined by our own Gary Sims, and Daddy Longley's densest ally.

Gary Sims said there is just one word brilliant when it comes to Google's handling of Android. He believes that Google has shown time and time again that Android is in good hands. There are functional improvements with Android L, including the new Material Design, as well as support for 64-bit processors. Not only that, but it looks like Google is doing a good job at getting Android 5.0 onto some of the older Nexus devices. I have a Nexus 7 and we're just itching for an upgrade.

So, how does it compare to KitKat? Our own Andrew Grush said as for comparing it to KitKat, it's night and day. He loves the new notifications, quick settings, searchable settings, and so much more battery conservation mode. This really leaves Android 4.4 in the dust. Now, what does the man and the legend himself think? Here's Joe Hindi. Some of the most visible updates are the revamped navigation bar which now features the more abstract triangle-circle-rectangle icon set. The status bar can also be colored or transparent depending on the app. The lock screen now displays rich notifications instead of just icons, which include details about the message and should make quickly checking messages or game notifications easier than ever before.

There is also a do not disturb mode keyboard selection icon in the nav bar smart battery consumption and charging estimates raw image support better accessibility features are just a few of the small improvements set for Android Lollipop. Now, I know what you're thinking: "When am I going to get Lollipop on my device?" Well, our own Android Authority staff give educated guesstimates on when you will receive Android L on your particular device. But if you have a Nexus device, you are expected to get it as early as November 3rd.

Now, I know some of you were lusting after the Droid Turbo when we talked about it last week, and for those of you who are battery hogs, you're going to like this. The Droid Turbo is expected to feature a 5.2-inch Quad HD display, a Snapdragon 805 processor, a 21-megapixel camera, and if the report is accurate, an ultra-high capacity 3,900 milliampere-hour battery.

Our Nexus Player was also announced, designed in collaboration with Asus and acting as a streaming hub for music, movies, and other videos. Just hook it up to your TV via the HDMI cable and stream content over your home Wi-Fi network. The entertainment hub is powered by Android Lollipop and makes use of Android TV functions shown off at Google I/O earlier this year, including a TV-optimized Play Store interface, content-based search functions, and a gaming platform. Content also syncs across all your Android devices, so you can start a movie on your TV and finish it on your tablet.

Thanks for watching Android Army. My name is Jace, and love to connect with you right here on Google Plus or Twitter. Don't forget about my brothers and Android Josh Joe and the Tech Ninja Kevin Lon and Chris all working really hard to deliver the best content on the web. I should see you next week on Android Weekly.
