**The Samsung Galaxy S9 Review**
I recently had the opportunity to get my hands on the Samsung Galaxy S9, and I must say that it's been a real treat. While it's not mind-blowing by any stretch of the imagination, it's definitely a solid device that checks all the right boxes for power users.
One thing that struck me about the S9 is how regularly I struggle to focus on its screen. Even slight movement by me or the subject results in a blurred image, which can be frustrating. However, I do appreciate the pro features that you can get by swiping up here, such as tweaking settings like white balance, ISO, and focus. This is great if you want to fine-tune your camera experience. On the other hand, 4K video capabilities are impressive, but the lack of optical image stabilization makes it almost unusable for anything more than stationary videos.
Even the Google Pixel, which lacked electronic image stabilization (EIS), was significantly better in this regard. Overall, I'd say that the S9 is a good camera, but not necessarily good enough to be considered a flagship phone. Still, its performance and display make it an excellent choice for those who want a top-notch device.
One of the standout features of the S9 is its massive screen. At 5.8 inches, it's enormous, and I must admit that I find myself struggling with how to use such a large device. Sometimes, using a firm one-handed can become a bit of finger gymnastics, especially when trying to reach the top or bottom of the screen. Still, if you're looking for a big phone, there's no denying that this is a great option.
The S9 also boasts an impressive battery life, thanks to its 4000mAh capacity. I was able to get a full two days out of it with minimal power saving and rationing, which is better than my previous devices like the A7, S7 Edge, and iPhone 7 Plus. Additionally, if you're running low on power, the phone also supports quick charge technology through its USB-C port, allowing you to recharge up to 55% in just 30 minutes.
Another feature that I found particularly impressive is the fingerprint reader. It's ridiculously fast, taking only a split second to register my index finger. While some people may prefer the fingerprint reader on the back of other devices, I actually really like it being located at the bottom, as it feels more natural to use with my thumb.
The speaker quality is also very good, with clear and crisp sound coming from both the front-facing dual speakers. This is especially impressive when watching videos or playing games outdoors, where wind noise can be a problem.
**Should You Buy the Samsung Galaxy S9?**
So, should you buy the Samsung Galaxy S9? Well, there's no denying that it's a great device for power users who want awesome performance, an enormous screen, and long battery life. While it may not be perfect – particularly when it comes to camera image stabilization – I think it's worth considering.
Of course, pricing is a major concern. The S9 is expected to retail around $625, $700, or €700, which is certainly steep. However, if you're willing to invest in a top-notch device, I think the S9 is well worth it.
One final thought – if the Note 7 were still on the market, I might have a harder time recommending the S9. But as it stands, this is an excellent option for those who want a fantastic phone with all the bells and whistles.
